Hey All,

I've got some MB Quart 6"s in the front. (One died - clearly i need more speakers :D)

Rockford 2 Channel P4004 Amp (I'm thinking of getting another amp) &

A Rockford P2 Punch 12" Sub in the back.

Rear speakers i think are some Kenwood ones and that's where I’m thinking of upgrading.

Mid/Bass is the objective...

The sub's got plenty of kick ... it just needs a bit of help ;)

So i was thinking of installing either a few 2x8" + 2x6" in the back of a GTR?

Anyone know anyone who'd be up for the task??

Time isn't an issue ... and price is just a matter of more time :O

I suppose I'd like to cap it at under $3k.

Currently I'm thinking of sniping a few choice auctions on Ebay ... which brings me to the install.

(Found some more MB Quart speakers going for 1/4 of retail... but yeah.. I’m not going to buy a thing before planning the whole install out).

I'm open to suggestions and opinions.

Did I mention the install has to be top quality!?!

Currently I've got the amp mounted vertically ... but the rear tyre is inaccessible without a screwdriver.

This will have to be re-mounted...

also - ebay MBQ = fakes :( -see a dealer if you wnat them :)

hi chris....why do you say this? Is it one particular seller, or is it a general rule i.e. maybe MB Quart contractually dont allow retailers to sell on ebay, so those ones must be fake?

It's good to see someone who is prepared to wait and spend what it takes to achieve a quality sound system.

I don't think you should look at it from the point of view of adding rear speakers because your sub needs help.

In a quality system rear speakers are only there to replicate the sound reflected from the back wall at live venues and the volume should be set below that of the front speakers.

Midbass is directional and loud parcelshelf speakers will drag your sound stage to to the rear.

To keep the sound stage as forward as possible I would recommend putting the most effort into your front speakers with a pair of 6" speakers in the rear to fill the holes in the parcel shelf.

If you haven't already, sound deaden and seal the doors to within an inch of their life and mount a quality 7" driver on a solid mdf baffle and feed it a clean 150-200wrms a side.

Then take your car to a quality car audio shop and have your system measured and tuned with an RTA frequency spectrum analyser.

This will show if your sub will play up to your front midbass and they could advise you of any subbox tuning changes that could improve your bottom end.

This should easily be achieveable within your budget and the result will be worth the effort.

sean,

MBQ forbid it actually. warranty will not exist on them either.
