Duncan
not relevant to dohc turbo cars...we don't have to open the motor to make big improvements... only means something to dinosaur drivers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/131841-can-you-still-call-an-engine-unopened-if-you-have-aftermarket-cams/page/2/#findComment-2449933 Share on other sites
Dale FZ1
Cam change alters volumetric efficiency. I'd call it "opened" for cam, compression, or turbo change. They all change the way the engine breathes. Modified is modified. GTRgeoff
Cams take me at most 1 hour to swap so I consider them as "unopened". Head off for improvement, slugs/rods and all that is opened. Whatcha floggin' mate Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/131841-can-you-still-call-an-engine-unopened-if-you-have-aftermarket-cams/page/2/#findComment-2450696 Share on other sites

AdamsR33
To me the head is the lid, so if you don't take the head off mate then it isn't opened. opened as i think , to get into the motor is to open it, removing/replacing cams are really on the outside of the motor. Unopened IMO. Cubes
Unopened to myself means standard mechanicals that have not been touched. Bolt ons only. An LS1 or old GM 5ltr. Is that unopened when changing cams? No. I believe it must be an equal playing field, whats unopened for one motor can't be opened for another just because its easier to due to its design. But from a literal sense.. A motor is only opened when the head is cracked off/removed. Duncan
How on earth do you change the bottom end by taking the head off? I think you would be better off trying to remove the sump. Taking the head off gives you access to absolutely nothing Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/131841-can-you-still-call-an-engine-unopened-if-you-have-aftermarket-cams/page/2/#findComment-2459312 Share on other sites
