Hey ppls,

I've been watching the shell/coles website for some time now waiting for the Shell Optimax Extreme 100ron to be available in SA.

Findon Coles/Shell is seeing upgrades, fingers crossed we will have 100ron soon. :/

Hey peoples  we've had it in Sydney for the past couple of months, i've tried it a couple of times and I didnt notice much of a diffrence.... except in the pocket (about 7-8 cents difference).... I find my car runs well enough on the 98 octane based fuels.... enjoy

Heslo & Smoky,

You won't notice any difference by simply dropping it in. The car needs to be tuned to suit. Well basically ign. timing advanced and 'possibly' even though its only 5% afr's richened up a tad.

If your running on a stock ecu and simply drop the 100ron in it won't do anything..

Madaz,

Mine won't run on 95ron, pings its arse off. :)

When it had the stock motor and ecu in it it was 'ok' on 95ron but I wasn't able to dial in any static ign. timing via the cas. 15degree's was it.

I dropped 98ron in to it advanced it a few degree's and picked up ~10rwkw.

Which was a lot when it was dead stock... 115rwkw to 125rwkw. :P

But yer 5% ethanol. Hardly anything. I have no issues running it.

Out come my coles dockets.

Busky2k,

Apparently its 5c more over optimax in syndey and the like.

I'm going to throw it on the dyno, quick tune and power run. Then a tank full of optimax extreme and another quick tune and power run. Shall be interesting to see what gains are to be had with my setup.

Wouldn't bother for my car. Unless your car is seriously hotted up or you plan on hitting the track it's not worth it for the sake of a handfull of kw's you're not going to notice. I'd also want to be able to quickly switch between engine maps if I had to change from one to the other.

Wouldn't run 95 though. I've had mine ping a bit on 98 let alone 95.

Hope you don't run your boost very high Madaz.

I'll have the few extra kw's as my coles docket will equal out the difference. :(

Its easy enough to pull out a little ign. for a whole tank of fuel should I need to drop 98 or even ULP in it.

ULP requires me to drop from memory when I tested 6-7degree's.

Got the map laying around some where.

Either way I'm going to have a fiddle. I'm a fiddler. :/

Unless ping is really ringland breaking bad its not easy to hear UNLESS your up against cement guard rail.

Thats how I used to do all my crude fiddlings prior to the PFC days.

Yeah that's it, I'm a fiddler too, but I don't want to have to carry a timing light in the boot all the time. Can't you set the map on the PFC so that the timing changes anyway? If I can't do it quickly & painlessly then I don't wanna know.

My 33's an everydayer & I don't want to be changing my timing once or twice a week if I keep getting different fuel ta very much. But if you want to go do that knock yourself out mate :(

I only ever run BP98 at the moment, never anything else. So really for myself it would be no different if I ran Optimax Extreme.. Fill up once a fortnight and be done with it.

The PFC.. Yep there is a temporary ign. overall trim or you can 'simply' lol @ simply jump in to the ign map and change the values across your WOT load points quickly... Depending how well versed with the h/c you are it will only take a minute.

Myself personally.. If I dropped a tank of bp98 in it I know its going to be in there for close to 500km's, so I'll spend the 1 minute pulling a few degree's out of load points 16,17 & 18.

I got pretty damn good fuel economy on the cruise, done 187km's and ever so slightly over 1/4 of a tank.

I remember seeing 140km's to a 1/4. :(

Busky2k....!!!! Where were u? :/

Well yer.. I usually just cruise it around changing up at around 2-2.5k.

Still always in front of traffic at the lights but.

It has been tuned, running a new genuine o2 sensor, and recently cleaned injectors. :(

The old injectors had 350km's per tank, and it felt as if it went bad overnight. I replaced O2 sensor and it made no difference. So injectors in my case it was. Was a good excuse to drop larger ones in. :/

    • Another question sorry, what stainless do u use in the turbo external WG plumb back piping? Is it 321, 316 or 304?
    • Right, its been a while for updating this car, but I made some small but important progress today. In the end I bought an Ecutek dongle from the Australian distributor Tunehouse (for local hardware support) but have gone with a remote tune from Racebox in the US (because they have done millions of these, and I could not find any tuner where I could access the tune anyway as they are all password locked). The App is reasonably easy to work with, but the PC software reminds me of Haltech's ECU Manager that you need to use with the Plat Pro ECUs, it is a nightmare.  Anyway, I sent the details over, got back a tune file and a request for data logs. I finally got a chance to access a private test track today as they want redline logs in 3rd and 4th, and have sent them back for the first round of reviews. The main difference in the tune is going from 1.0 (stock) to 1.3 bar (19psi), although I'm sure is a lot of other stuff in the background. Keeping in mind this is a dead stock car with 125,000klm, this is what the App's performance test claimed: Before After Interesting to note that both 400m tests had the same terminal speed (158klm/h) but different ETs. And no, the speed limiter seems to be higher than that at 186kl/h. Summary of the key logged parameters for the 3rd and 4th gear runs were: Those little turbos were certainly whizzing at 200,000rpm+.  Also I'm really not that excited about oil pressure 55psi at redline so I think I'll go thicker than 5w30 (nissan recommend 0w20....) and see if that improves it. Other than that (and the big boost spike....) everything looks good as a start to me.
    • Just one more post to show the final result and the original "janky" solution for a laugh. Everything feels really tight and no wobbling at all, very pleased 🙂
