Best Tyres Under $300 Each

Ive read the tyre comparison stickied but still cant come to a conclusion which tyres i should get. I need two rear tyres as they are on the belts, and i dont want to spend over $300 each. I have no idea about tyres and i need two 255/35/18's. ive sussed out some prices, $240 for Nexens, but someone said they were a shitty compliance tyre. I can get Hankooks for $289 (they couldnt tell me the name of them, apparently they have only one?) and yokohamas for $520! apparently they are really soft and get eaten up really quickly tho.

So im just looking for really good grip in dry and good lifespan (not excellent, willing to trade some for better grip).

So what does everybody think would be the best option?

you could try reading the tres thread in sticky ppart of this section, but the general concensous is that hankooks are fine, along with teh federals, altho, no federals in qld at all in 255/25 r18. and not sure when there getting them next, so i got 265/35 r18 and paid $242 a peice fitted balanced etc

I put Nexens on my car, there not that bad, I think that there better than the g-grid II's that i used to have. $225 each for 245/40/18.

I am getting a set of Hangkook 275/35/18 K104Ventus Y rated fitted and balanced for $310Each....

I have been running a new set for 1 year 245/45/17 K104's $255 Each and they have not missed a beat.

I would highly recommend these to anybody who wants their performance tyres to last.

Nexens sounds very cheap for a performance tyre....what rating are they?

Do they have 255/265/275/280/285 Sizes in these?

The Nexens are normally rated as a Car Yard Tyre, you will see a heap of them and Sava's on car yard cars, as they are cheap (price and quality) and they are a new tyre, just some advice on them.

The Hankooks arnt that bad for the money, you are getting into a trusted tyre brand, and they still have a name to uphold in the market, so they dont tend to put out crap tyres, but they do have different quality tyres for different prices, so the bottem end of the price range you are getting a bottem end tyre from there range.

The Federals are a Great quiet tyre with a good wear on them, and once again are a lower price than the Bridgestones and the Pirilli's, and wont be as soft as them either, but I think for the money they would prolly be a look in, if you can get them in that size in your area.

and the Falkens are a great softer compound tyre, normally means slightly higher grip, lower road noise, and also a slightly shorter road life, but once again in the price bracket you have stated, I would point you into one of these 3 brands. Hankook, Falken, Federal.

mine are N3000, there only W rated. So not as good as the hangkook's. Do a google on Nexen N3000 review, I was surprised by the amout of possitve comments.

Thanks for this.

The reason I stated this was since I have had them I have seen hardly much tyre wear and

comfort has been great compared to the Jap. Advans that were on then previously.

I have seen Hangkook test these tyres on the track on a R34GTR

going around the Nur. Ring. in Germany.

They are Y rated...ie 300KM's an hour and have a warranty on wear.

Sure they have just launched the new K107's but these are 200 Dollars more each.

So my answer to this question asked on this thread is.

Hangkook K104's 245/45/17 are Y rated, great tyres that I am using at the moment.

Tested at 300KM's an Hour, track proven......for a street car.

They cost around $275 Each fitted and balanced which is under $300 Each. :)

toyo trampios are alright for their price, but if i were to choose again i would probly go the hankook k104. just to try them out

got the toyo TPGs but wasnt too happy with em, had falken ZE512 and they shit all over the toyos.

heard good things about hankook though, try them

regretting the toyos a little, feel they should grip better

try the new Falken FK452s. I got a set few weeks ago 235 and 265 for $1100 all up in 18s.

Can I ask where you got them from?

I called a local Tyrepower in Sydney (that's who Falken Australia suggested) and they wanted around $320 a corner on 17"

I just put on some 285/30/18 pirelli P ZERO, $85 each with 60% tread. Look around for second hand you can get a better tyre for a cheaper price. I was told that the P ZEROs are around $900 each.

What are they Rosso A's or Giallo A's? Doesnt matter, that is a good price for 60%.

      Ok glad you clarified on the frenchy’s options , I was worried about if my oem hoses would fit the new compressor or not if I just bought the bracket/compressor kit ,  didn’t realize they also sold a larger full conversion kit. Hmm may just go oem in that case then to make it easy only because I plan to sell this car to upgrade to a 32 GTR or 34 GTT.

      Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4

      Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was ￡307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway.
