Hey guys,

During the week I had the stupid/crazy idea of getting Mark Skaife/Jim Richards to sign the glovebox lid from the GT-R the next time the V8 Supercars were in Melbourne. With the Sandown 500 on this weekend, it was as good a time as any, so I went along today with the high hope of getting them to sign it. Here is the result :P

I got Jim Richards to sign it when he returned from his Porsche cup practice session and he was great about it, when I told him it was for my GT-R he said "Oh Top Stuff" and happily signed it and the cases of two 1:43 scale race GT-Rs I have too.

Mark Skaife was a much harder man to catch, after waiting patiently along the fence near their trucks, after nearly an hour I decided to walk into the fenced off pit area behind the pit garages and track him down. Luckily I did only a couple of minutes later. He seemed very busy and not that interested at all, but I expected it (and fair enough he does have a lot of stuff on) but I still told him how much I appreciated it.

Anyways just thought I'd share the pic, I thought if all the HDT/HSV owners do it with Brocky etc, I can do the same with my car, and I don't think too many GT-Rs would have that sort of thing.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments guys.

Didn't do it to raise the value of the car, I don't believe it has/will, would be better off getting a standard glovebox and selling that one on ebay or something if I ever sold the car haha.

But I guess it does make the car a little bit more unique compared to the other ones out there.

Couldn't really embroid it as its hard plastic? And yeah Skaife sure is very hard to get hold of, I was lucky I reckon :P

Hi again' I have a Noval idea.

Get both of them to autograph our stickers before we get them made.

That way we get their signature displayed on all our Skylines.

We could pass them a couple of bucks and say that they have made their previous followers and

current ones :P really happy.

dan's from WA... they're a bit behind.

teh cool word in vic is "tops"

tops idea with the glovebox.

its the word in vic...i wouldnt go so far as to call it cool ....

I used to be a ford forum member, and a lot of the guys there get there engine or rocker covers signed by v8 supercar drivers etc....never really thought about doing it on a skyline, but I guess you got 2 relevant signatures :)

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.
