i was going to be a IT person.. i had the brains and still do, but i decided to go into brick laying since its more fun and can talk to friends that work with me anytime i want... and i probably get payed 2 times as much :P .. hehehehe

but 10 times harder work.. and its worth it, stay fit and strong.. not lazy and fat :(

and i can not turn up to work anyday i want.. but id prefer to get the money and work the day :D)))) ...

this is how you get a GT-R.. and maybe 2 just like me ?

I got a $20K loan for my non-turbo R32 Whilst doing my Mechanic appreticeship, in that time it now has a turbo RB20, zaust, cooler, etc.

Have been working as a fitter at Power station for the last 3 Months. I work 9 hour days, 4 days a week and take home $800, pay $400 a week off loan (5K left), and spend the rest on rebuilding engine, interior, paint.

When i go on shutdown work in August we work 12 hour days, one day off a fortnight, take home $2500 a week. (incl. living away from home allowance.)

im 19 and i dropped out of school, i started working in the hotel industry and now working in the serviced apartments. My role within the company is a building manager. your thinking 19 and a building manager its a long story. i gamble abit. I got my skyline by having a big win at the casino total $35,000 i bought my car the next day. the rest of my win and salary and savings bought an apartment and a few simple mods

im also in IT...but common anybody in QLD should know how poor the wages are here compared to the rest of oz...i was almost getting double the money i am when i moved up here.....most ppl up there get there money from drugs and ripping off others...btw im not one of them...take the blck bmw on the goldcoast with the number plate BMW its a 5 series, he is one of the biggest shame artists in oz, he runs a big pyramid sceme and is ripping off millions of ppl...same goes for the lambo with the SHARK number plates, owns the clubs here and sells drugs on the side...i can tell you for a fact those cars wont be in mint condition for any longer

haha gamble...... anyway yes as said b4 you need too live on a shoe string budget too get what u want these days , not like the old days no more when u could pay cash for a house ..haha ....

well i have had 5 cars and im 22 but i have sold them for around what i payed so i havent lost realy at all .......

but i dont realy have a life but im happy in what i do , no smoking no drinking no clubbing the usuall live with parants and paying board,

im an Mechanical engineer and used too earn around 2000 a week, but never had a life and was out in the sticks all the time so got rid of that and went back home got my security license and am doing guarding for ACS, plus working in the hospital as security , i love the work u come home clean every day and i earn nearly as much as i was earning when i was a engineer but i work shift and that sucks a bit but hey i love my cars and will sacrifice anything except my girl and food .... hehe

just budget work out what u need too live on then put some or most of the rest away and in time it will grow a big sum .....

Reading the last few pages it seems like the average skyline owner:

a.) Works in IT

b.) Earns shit money

b.) Live with his parents

c.) Can't afford to have a life cos they're too busy making payments.

I don't know bout u guys but if my car is causing me to have no life I'd sell my car, cos your only young once and you don't want to look back and think you sat at home with mum your whole youth just so you could afford a car which by then will be worth squat anyway.

i dont work in IT :P i work in management for coles :)

i have my hands in my pockets most of the time

earn ok money

yeah i live with my parents but like hell id live outa home - too good :)

have a life? life is what u make of it, if its a lifestyle of cars, gambling, drinking whateva, its still a life

having a life shouldnt just be thought of as going out n get drunk n just make it in the door before u pass out - thats just stupid

i dun think the car is worth having no life for, but then thats just my opinion

mods are expensive which is why my car just has basic ones and i enjoy it as it is but the rest of my money usually goes towards food and entertainment and only 300-400 a month on petrol and servicing, plus another 200-300 for insurance etc...

if owning the 33 meant not having a social life or not being able to do anything i wanted with my money, then i'd sell i guess

but thats just me

I have a life, try to go out at least once a weekend, hang with my mates etc... I would hate to be tied down by my car. I'm only 20 and as far as I see living at home is fine as I get along with my parents and they actually want me here. If that should change moving out would be a higher priority than owning a skyline. I should have enough money to do that aswell though, and still save/go out so it's all good.

But the n again im not in IT either :P

Of course most of us would not live without just too have our car , dam we all love our cars but hey , there are more important things out there than 4 wheels and a turbo , your familiy and or partner , they always come first , i was planing too sell my car too fund a big holiday and go visit my girls father , so a car is only a means of a hobby not a life , of course if i couldnt have a life outside of my car i would sell it .

  • 4 months later...

I'm mechanical engineering student, only work 14 weeks a year (christmas holidays) and was able to buy my GTS-25t without any loan and pay for it during the year plus a few mods in between.

But then, I do live in NZ where cars cost a few weetbix to buy! :jk:

Sorry, just stirring! :D

Dave

I am in IT too.....hey what a coincidence....

I am 19, bought a townhouse in Queensland that pays itself off (and gives a little too)...

I got 2 cars but am selling the supercharged VT and am looking for a 32 GTR or a S15 (not an easy decision) Other car is an 89 magna to get to work and back...

Don't Drink, Smoke, or go out really... but that is more by choice, and ontop of all that I gotta start looking for more property to buy :D

I also left school in year 10 so that would be why Ihave what I have.....

Im 18 & drive a 95 GTST which I picked up 2 months ago from Japan.

I saved hard for 1 year, and usually when you save, you get the eager to save more cause you like your bank account figures, so you save harder.... I had no social life for that year, but my car was bought out full in cash, and I only have 3rd party property insurance, but a BEEFY alarm system to protect my baby!!!

Now, I go out all the time, I cant just let the line sit in the garage, this car is seriously such a pleasure to drive all the time!! Even my 74yr old grandma that can barely speak english gave it the thumbs up!!!

Most people think its daddys car with green p-plates, but I worked and saved hard, and it definately pays off!!

Oh, im a student and work in retail as a casual pulling around 25-30 hours per week and uni is 25 hours of classes a week.

I'm second year uni and am only 19. I'm putting away about grand a month towards a car, still undecided on what though. I have just under 2 years before I'm off my P's, so till then, no own car and my mum's camry is where its at. I have enough saved to buy something decent now, but I don't see the point in having to pay ultra high insurance. By 21, I'll have enough to buy a car (S15? R32 gts4/GTR?) outright and have a decent amount to keep investing for a house/apartment in a couple of years after that.

I've worked for everything I have and I'm lucky I have a good part time job. Still spend around $150 a week on food, drinks, clubs, whatever else.

All my friends have NICE cars (306 xsi, 206 GTI, Audi A4 3L, new SLK) bought by their mummy's and daddy's. My parents would never buy me a car, not even mentioning a house.

To sum up: work hard and make some good investments. Try not to get into debt while young or rely on others.

    • Purchased a NC MX5 a while ago Basic suspension mods done, BC coils and Whiteline sway bars  New DBA calipers, discs and pads Added some 17 x 8 Konig Decagrams with 215/45 17 PS5's Added some typical NA bolt on's, i.e. full exhaust and intake  Added 0.5ltrs with a MZR2.5 swap, nice bump in torques  Found a detachable hard top which is locked in for a colour match with my local paint shop in Feb 25, this also includes some PDR as it has received a few love taps from parking in the local shops when in the hands of my Minister for War and Finances, me, I park nowhere near other cars and typically park on the street The little thing is awesome, I drive it everywhere, it handles like a dream whether I'm up it or just cruising  But now,  because I'm a idiot, I keep looking at turbo kits....... did I mention I'm a idiot Why is dose so appealing  All of the NA 2.5 glory, well.......until sometime in 2025 anyway....🤪
    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
