Hey guys

Just wondering about economy for your Cefs, ive got a commodore im thinking of swapping for a ceff

Yes, ive done a search and didnt find anything (maybe i looked in the wrong place? if i did please let me know :( )

I currently get around 500k's to a full tank in city driving, heaps more on the interstate highways, but the car doesnt handle at all and is really too big for me day by day

So, post up how many k's you get, what motor (auto or man) and how hard you drive it - cheers

Something like this would be great

Year model:

Motor:

Man/Auto:

Average k's p/tank:

Hows it driven:

Mods:

What would you change about it if you could:

Thanks HEAPS guys :P

Year model: 1990

Motor: RB20DET

Man/Auto: Auto

Average k's p/tank: 520km average (65L tank tho)

Hows it driven: By my 57 year old dad, to and from work and shops

Mods: pod, exhaust

What would you change about it if you could: sell it and buy a prius coz dad bitches to no end about wanting a more fuel economical car (dosen't really wanna go fast anymore).

Year model: 1989

Motor: RB20DET

Man/Auto: Manual

Average k's p/tank: 450ish from memory, although havent filled up a full tank for awhile now with these fuel prices...

Hows it driven: Moderate (bit of everything, like a granny to work which is short distance so probably on rich tune there and back - also with a bit of a blast on some weekends etc)

Mods: Pod, some crappy restrictive exhaust, mainly stock to say the least.

What would you change about it if you could: Throw the rb20 out and use it as a boat anchor and put a 1jz or 1uz in...hmm

Year model: 1990

Motor: RB20DET

Man/Auto: Manual

Average k's p/tank: ~420ish (~500 for freeway)

Hows it driven: Race driver? lol i rarely change gears below 4k, usually around 6, unless it still warming up.

Mods: Pod, Exhaust, HD clutch, Alloy Rad, oil cooler, boost @ 0.8 bar with GFB bleed valve.

What would you change about it if you could: If i could, i would add an aftermarket turbo. I know it runs rich as a mofo, for example it went to 9:1 afr on the dyno and sat there from about 4k onwards. A powerfc or remap would increase fuel economy.

Well for starters, a cef aint any smaller than a commodore.

I'm getting about 570kms per tank, combo driving, highway and gateway traffic every morning and afternoon, and thats not my best thats the average, about 55-57L will go in the tank when I fill up. If it was to be all highway Id crack the 700kms with easy I feel.

Mods being pod, exaust, 12psi, dr drift chip, and adj fuel pressure reg.

Its a 1988 manual rb20, but with a RB25 box behind it, and a 2 way diff (no idea what difference that makes in terms of fuel economy).

But thats on 98ron fuel, which is 10-12c more per L up here in QLD.

Changes I would make, Id turn it in to a Subaru Liberty Blitzen :)

1990

Rb20de

Auto

2 1/2 inch cat back

drivin - depends what mood i'm in. usually fairly easy going

not much country driving.

i get about 10-10.5 km/L

i'd get a manual gearbox, go the rb25 box

Year model: 1990

Motor: RB25DET

Man/Auto: Manual

Average k's p/tank: approx 300

Hows it driven: pretty sedately due to the shit mileage

Mods: usual mods- pod, FMIC, etc

What would you change about it if you could: RB20 computer, remapped by Dr Drift for + KKR 480 turbo

NOTE: ATM i get no mileage at all, car isn't being driven, don't lose your license, it sucks.

Edited by a31rb25

OMFG did i just read this right...... Steve has finally seen the light... :sorcerer:

Mate i would love to add my milage input but i only know it goes thru about 2 tanks in a track day :)

BUY A CEFFIE YOU KNOW U WANNA!!!!

Year model: 88

Motor: rb20det

Man/Auto: manual

Average k's p/tank: less then 100kms... prob around 50 kms max

Hows it driven: hard and sideways

Mods: lots, 200 rwkw and its a drift car and for track use only :)

What would you change about it if you could: 1jz

Wow, thanks for the responses guys

Lots of mixed k's in there (as i was expecting)

Ive just done a 511k tank with the holden, and so far this week i will beat that, so i think for now, the holden stays

Not only the petrol is the deciding factor though, but the stereo, sunroof, climate control, cruise control are all nice things ive grown to live with, and i really dont think i can go without now in a daily driver

Thanks again guys - REALLY appreciated :(

Year model:1991

Motor: 1JZ GTE

Man/Auto: Manual

Average k's p/tank: 300-350 on short local runs, and 350-400 on a long run using highways [and not on boost all the time]

Hows it driven: hard....

Mods: standard engine, with KnN air-filter, standard blow-off, 3 inch exhaust with front silencers removed

What would you change about it if you could: bigger turbo and bigger fuel injectors.... blitz blow-off and blitz wastegate and a huge exhaust back-box.

Year model: 89

Motor:RB20DET

Man/Auto: Man

Average k's p/tank: 400 only, get 450 if i push it.

Hows it driven: To work and back in pretty heavy traffic. Lots of start and stop, then i give it a bit on the weekends. Still pretty crappy though, think the O2 sensor needs replacing

Mods: FMIC, RB25 turbo, pump, remap, stock air box.

What would you change about it if you could: 1JZ conversion, softer spring rates for the street. respray.

Hey steve... pulled one of the shocks out today at Bel Garage... the shocks need to be regassed or changed... hence the floatyness.

I also bought some shims off nissan to lock teh factory viscous diff.

stay tuned for dad's undercover dorifto machine.

    • The hot exhaust light will come on not from just the cat being blocked, but it's just a temp sensor, and it's designed to warn you to not do things like park in long grass.   If you've been pushing the motor a bit, it can cause the light to come on.   Second if the cat is rattling, I'd suspect it's not blocked, but instead falling apart inside.   The easiest "fix" until you can get a cat put back in, is to unbolt your one, bash the rest of the insides out, and then bolt it back in.   For a daily driver/street car, I am in agreeance of put a cat in the car. If it were race car I wouldn't care if it were removed.
    • No worries at all 🫡 I think the most satisfying things to make are the little bits that are just impossible to find or they're no longer manufactured. Generally I always try to replace parts with OEM wherever possible. This little project is also great because it'll never see the light of day, but strengthen these brackets so it's not just relying on the little standard screws in the headlight plastic. As soon as I saw the standard brackets and screws I thought, "well I'm not going to install with just the screws, the plastic tabs will just snap off". It's crazy how expensive everything has become yeah. But I suppose that's supply and demand; granted it's a lot easier to get brand new genuine parts these days which is fantastic 😊, I don't have to get totally reamed at the local Nissan dealer ha ha We sure are lucky we have all these manufacturers making parts these days, a few really great Australian companies too like Platinum Racing Products and Fit Mint Automotive, what a time to be alive ❤️ . I've got my eye on the RB26 head by PRP as mine has a very fine hairline crack, so that'll need to be addressed some time in the future. If you have any requests or odd things to make feel free to let me know and I can have a crack at making replacement parts ✌️
    • Thanks for sharing this, and BTW if your headlights are in good condition they are worth thousands....you might want to consider replacing them with brand new LED ones like this (https://www.nengun.com/78works/full-led-headlights-r32-skyline) and making enough profit to buy a house in Sydney
    • I'm not sure what sort of shops are nearby, but I'd expect any reasonable exhaust shop could put a cat in it that will not restrict the power that engine makes. Otherwise, if you want to remove it, short lengths that replace the cat are readily available online, search for "de-cat pipes" or "test pipes"
