Id just got it back from the mechanic and was enjoying a sunday arvo drive when disaster struck. Gave it a good squirt when merging into freeway traffic, trans droped back a gear, was going hard then all of a sudden bang! a mate was following behind me recons he saw stuff come out of the exhaust followed by a large colud of black smoke followed by white smoke. My initial thought was that it might have been a cooler hose and continued for about 5 kms till i could pull over. looked at the boost controller which recorded 1.2 bar.

when I took the turbo off the comp wheel was decimated and there was no evidence of a exhaust wheel.

Is there any sort of things I can do to prevent small bits of turbo screwing with the motor before the new turbo is bolted on,

any of advice would really be appriciated. :P

so it got to 1.2 bar before it blew? thats like 17.64psi isnt it? :)

shite.......... sorry to hear that.

what sort of intercooler? standard? if so - Id just junk the mofo, and upgrade, maybe like to the $399 group buy thats currently on, or something like that. cant think of a way to get metal slivers out, bar a LOT of 50:50 kero:metho mix flushes.

check your oil filter too, ie cut it open and have a look inside - oh and flush the oil, flush it again (use like 15ltrs of crud cheapy oil) and see how it comes out. see whats in there..................

Thanks for the advice Tangles, will give it a go. not real keen on ditchin the hybrid cooler though, all my available moneys goin on the new turbo, so going to take it to the car wash and get the high pressure hose on to it see how that goes.

Ive been told to pull the head off and give the bores a good blow out, but im not real sure bout doin this as i dont want to stuff anything else up.

Has any one got a proven method of rectifyng this issue, or should i just start saving for a rebuild?

Having recently replaced my faulty turbo with a hiflow unit - I can definitely say I feel your pain...its a very expensive operation.

although my original turbo didn't shatter so I guess I'm very lucky in that regard.
