Hi,

Im going to get my ECU tuned on Friday as my car isnt running perfect. When on idle the car misses alot and sounds pretty bad but when i drive it on the road it never misses at all. Sometimes though at high revs when giving it full throttle I hear a rattling noise which sounds like pinging or the inside of my dash rattling, i cant be sure, lol. Or banging noise coming from the engine, but im not sure if that is the engine or something is loose inside the engine. Will the ECU tune fix these problems? Like pick up if the engine is pinging or not running right? I cant afford a Dyno Tune right now, lol. Ive had problems with my coils before where the engine was popping at high revs. So i sealed the coils and I havent had the problem since.

Any help or ideas would be great!

My Mods Are:

K&N Air Filter

3.5 Inch Cat Back

Lighten Flywheel

FMIC

R34 Turbo - Running on 12psi with Turbotech Boost Controller

Thanks!

Just talked to the guys at "Tenagah Motorsport" and they said they would do a EOM ECU diagnoses which checks for faults. But that will not tune the ECU. Is this worth doing? I guess it will tell me if my engine is running bad or if it is a coil or spark plug but I thought if the engine was running bad that they would tune the ECU to get it running smooth. The EOM ECU diagnoses costs $150 and a dyno tune could be anywhere from $300 to $600. Way to much for me right now.

ok mate

don't pay $150 for a diagnostics plug-in. you can run diagnostics o your ECU for nothing. do a search for more information..

now as for the dyno.. you don't want the ECU to be "tuned".. you want to o to a dyno and get them to putthe car on it, check the timing, and listen for pinging. this usually costs about $100-120/hr and within the hour they could probably tell you what's wrong if they know their stuff..

so basically o to a different workshop and say "i want an hour on the dyno to check my timing and see why my car has a miss" and go from there...

good luck,

Warren

what WazR32GTSt said.

you can get a remap for your car for under $300 that is suit to your turbo. there is a guy called DRdrift and another called yoshitokio both do good work from what I have heard on these forums.

Yeah the Remap sounds like a good idea. I just want my ECU tuned so its running smoothly with the modifications i have.

Does anyone know of a good place in Perth to get this done?

I know Xspeed will Dyno tune for $185 a hour, but is that the same as mapping the ECU?

Ok, so am i looking to get the ECU tuned/remapped to make my car run smooth with modifications or should i get it dyno tuned? The way i think is that dyno tune is for power and a ECU tune is to get the car running smooth? Can anyone tell me if im right? Also if there is a good place in Perth to get the ECU tuned?

Thanks!!

no man.. no

there's no computer way to make the car run "more smooth"

an ECU tune will adjust the way the computer sees the engine and make it run more efficiently thus making more power. this is the same thins as a remap

what you need is an hour on the dyno to diagnose a problem

read my above post... NOW

It doesnt look like any sort of tune would fix the problems.

Does the revs hunt at idle, if so it could be some sort of manifold leak, or vaccum leak, as for the "ecu tune", unless u get ur ecu remapped, the only thing they can do is adv/ret ur whole timing.

I would get a reputed workshop to diagnose ur problem b4 u go and spend money needlessly, beacause ur ecu "should" run smooth if there are no other problems, it just hit R+R at high air flow, which i doubt ( at 12psi), which would require remapping.

    • You have the option to do this. Nobody but me ever did this (go slower, I mean) Everyone seems to fall victim to "This would be a great setup for you, but for me, I need a little more power..."
    • Save yourself the headache of an alarm. Immobilizer on the signal side of the main EFI relays so it won't start is good enough. DIY killswitch is the same thing except instead of a nice passive system you need to remember to switch it on and off.
    • Yeah, the advent of canbus was supposed to cut down on wiring weight, then some bright marketing wonk says "oh, look at all these wonderful tech gadgets we can cram in here now that we have this wonderous technology" and some arsehole safety legislator says "oh, look at all the wonderful surveillance and tracking gadgets we can cram in here now that we have this wonderous technology" and some dipshit young engineer who has grown up thinking that an extra 500000 lines of code is not a problem because storage is cheap these days says "oh look at all this wonderful shit I can do to one up those dipshit arsholes over at VW" and the Karens of the world all go "oh look at all these fancy things I can do on my screen (so long as I am not driving on a bumpy road wherein touch screens immediately become the single most stupid shit idea ever shoveled into a car) and my 19 zone airconditioning keeps my sweaty fat folds a bit less damp and the windows close themselves because I'm too fat and lazy to wind them up for myself and these reversing sensors would have been great if I'd paid attention to them instead of smashing them on the bollard while I was reversing and staring fixedly forward that day I went to pick up little Charlize from ballet" and the sweaty mongoloids who say "oh this wonderful collision avoidance technology with these 45 excellent radar antennae scattered across the front of my car mean I can tailgate like a methed up tradie at full speed with no fear because the car and the 35 airbags will protect me if it all goes wrong" ...... </shallistopranting?>
    • There's a post from a member (can't recall who), went down the path of a twin scroll G30-660 and it's doing over 300kW+ AND comes on about the same as a high flow RB25DET turbo. Have your cake and eat it too in this case. TBH, if I had a 2nd chance of building my car again (i.e. someone gave me what I wanted for my shit box, but the deal was I had to re-build another R33 and keep the change) I would just pop in a stock NEO motor (with new seals, rod bearings, ARP studs, head gasket, sump, Nitto pump), get a smaller twin scroll turbo, modify the stock low mount (keep the divider in place), and make a solid 300kW on 98RON and call it a day.
