Hi guys I have a 1995 R33 SII

Does this model come with ABS ??

Well it’s not working on mine. I had to change my front tyres before of this because I had flat spots on them, now again I got them on my new tyres… so I am now 100% sure that the ABS is not working.

So can anyone help me on this and tell me how I can check this?

And if you know anyone or a good place that I can take the car to get the ABS checked? I am in Sydney.

Thnaks guys..

The main point here is:

How do you continually get yourself into situations where you have to brake so hard that you lock the brakes? Change your driving style. Read the traffic ahead. Keep an eye out for idiots who might not be so savvy in the driving ability department.

ABS is for incompetents. In the 6 years I have had a car with ABS (R32 GTS4), I've activated the system maybe twice (once on the race track).

That said, I'm surprised that in the 5 or so years this forum has been around, that no-one has ever wondered if their car has ABS, and asked this very question.

Try looking at the lights on the instrument panel when you start the car - if you have ABS, then you will have a warning light show up at IGN-ON.

series 2 didn't come out in '95 only late '96 as far as I know.

motoman described the abs motor unit well, its a rectangular solid and metalic with thin tubes connected to it.

to check if its working visit Nissan and ask if they can plug their "consult" unit into it to get an error readout for you.

Why post if ur going to talk sh^t. The man jus asked if any1 knew how to fix ABS. Nobody cares that ur driving style is so far advanced than any other driver that u dont need ABS. In the 5 years ive been driving I have never heard of ne1 bagging ABS, u sir are an idiot

Hes right, ABS is for your missus falcon or commo...not a performance car, i cant stand the feel of it when its actually working, i dont have abs and ive never flat spotted a tyre in the last 4-5 years of driving. Also a 95 is a series 1.5 not series 2. By the sounds of it, he probably doesnt have abs, maybe he will learn to get a better feel for the brake pedal.

I like driving aids that act as a last resort, and only when needed.

As such, I like ABS. It doesn't kick in too early (you have to have locked up in order for it to intervene, and it can correct faster than you can cadence brake) and I can't think of a valid reason why you'd want to lock your tyres up. If you can threshold brake, it won't do anything at all. If you can drive well you should never notice, but if you f**k up it will give you a chance to bail yourself out.

Traction and stability control, on the other hand, tend to come on too early, they can think you're breaking traction / under or oversteering when you're actually not, and not do as good a job at correcting as a human....and I can think of plenty of reasons why I'd want to break traction or have the car "unstable" :(

And I've almost spun because my TCS kicked in well after my car aquaplaned and destabilised the car I had perfectly controlled.

For the guys who don't like ABS, do you like vacuum assisted brakes? Power steering? You get much better "feel" when these interfaces are unassisted (as people in Elises and AE86s keep telling me) so maybe people should pull these devices out of their Skylines too.

That said, how can you not notice if you've locked up your tyres?

It makes distinctive sounds, and leaves a distinctive smell. There's also the inherent lack of steering / instability that comes when the front / back of the car locks up.

If you drive that unaware of what the hell you and your car are doing, maybe you should hang up the hamburger-logo'ed key and pick up something that has two hula hoops.

Hi guys thanks for all ur help. I took the car to the mechanic and they had a look and said that my car is not fitted with ABS. well from now on I will have to do the manual ABS haha.. ohh well what to do … looks like even if it’s a late 95 model ABS is optional. It it seams like putting one in cost way too much.

ABS is the unit what you will usually find on the passenger side when u lifts up the hood you can see something a lil box sota unit with heaps of metal pips coming out of .. thatz the ABS unit.

Anyways take care guyz…

    • Like a Stagea, but not as cool! Hope you have enough garage space for this, or is something going to leave to make way for it?
    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
    • I’d love to find some where that can recover the dashes to look brand new and original. Mine has a very slight bubble, nothing compared to some I’ve seen though
