hi guys,

i have just been to the local exhuast shop today with my car (R33gtst) bcoz it had a sound like the mainfold was leaking, anyway upon a quick inspection with stethescope it appears i was write, its leaking from aroudn the mainfold area, he said i have most likely broken a manifold stud or something similar,

so now all i wanna know is :

Q1: Who has had there's replaced before and around how long it took to replace??

Q2: How much for the whole job??

Q3: How much are studs to buy also and where do u get them from??

Q4: Is it worth replacing the whole lot of them while u are in there abd how many are there to replace??

Q5: When i pull the manifold off if it has cracked and i have to replace it aswell, what i a decent replacement for the standard one for a good price??

any answers to these Q's would be greatful.

Thanx again

Darren

1 Me :) its hard to say how long it took because I did other stuff as well, but would hazard a guess at 4 hrs, I hired a right angle drill from kennards and have my own easy outs.

2 Depends on the hourly rate if you have all the parts.

3 Repco had to order them (3 days) $70 through a mechanic mate.

4 There are 12, I replaced them all even though some were good, if one has snapped (2 in my case) the others are stressed but if you want them I have em still.

5 I dont know but mine was cracked and I replaced it with a standard one, if I had had the time I could of got one for $30, have a look at my thread in the Qld for sale (WTB manifold)

thanx terry, i have gota get my mechanic mate to do it for me bcoz i dont have the time or the space to do it. but after all i just wanted to know how big the job is gonna be and how long its gonna take. to give me an estimate on price, im guessing it cost you $70 for all 12 studs then, is that a good price through your mate or is that general price....i want to know general price.

they might have been a strengthened stud or something he bought i dont know.

all i know is im preparing for worst case scenario, if that is it i have to replace the manifold and studs and gasket plus labour. labour being the killer in this situation.

$70??

arnt they like $3 or something through nissan

I've paid up to $16 dollars EACH for high tensile high heat tempered studs (for a buick mind you) through an independant supplier. So $70 doesnt seem so outrageous to me :D

Should take you 2 - 4 hours depending on tools and how fast you work, not a real hard job just tedious and lots of stuff you need to remove and refit.

I paid $3 each. There's a guy who comes around and just does this. That's like his whole business, going round to back yard mechanics and replacing busted studs. Doesn't charge much.

argh ok well i live in sunshine coast u are in sydney im guessing, maybe no one round here like that. im nto sure.....

studs $90 geniune nissan

gasket $120 geniune nissan

manifold $550 TuneAgent

cost me around $760 for the lot..

your better off doing the job yourself, i was quoted around $400 for the job, I ended up doing it myself and saved some cash.. its a good idea to replace all the studs, not just the broken ones..

yeah am going to replace all studs when its off. the worst part is i have got nowhere to do my car at so im gonna have to get a mechanic mate to look at it. its gonna cost me but i need my car back on the road a.s.a.p and i work all week and only have time to do it on the weekends..... but no where to do it at.
