This is the way it goes and in the pursuit of the perfect balance between grip and longevity, sacrifices need to be made. Whichever tyre you decide to go with, your wet weather grip is largly dependant on throttle input/position. I have driven cars around the 200rwkw mark on BRIDGESTONE Potenza RE-01R's (Bridgestone Japan's absolute top of the range/high grip road tyre for those that don't know) in the wet and the use of full throttle only resulted in a loss of traction. This demonstrates that no road tyre is going to keep 100% traction in the wet if the driver is not careful. By being very gentle with the throttle (not just how far you apply it but HOW you apply it) you can control the car quite easily even in the rain.

Hey I have those tyres, they seem very good in dry but in wet when I give it some, ofcourse it will slip.

I never knew they were top of the range tyres in Japan. I had always wondered what my tyres were, because I typed it up in aus bridgestone and they cant find it.

Put it in google worldwide then I got all these japanese sites, couldn't understand a thing so I gave up.

Lucky when I bought the car they were brand new.

Still though from what I believe its also got to do with the suspension your running. Stock ones are setup for Japanese roads right? Thats why Im getting my coilovers soon and set it up to SK's setting for street.

well i just bought some cheap tyres for the soarer. bridgestone GIII on the back 255/17s. and some Pirelli P-Zero on the front in 235/17. should be good. Was previously using Goodyear FM901s on the front and yokohama something or others on the back and they were ok, but didn't last long.

I wouldn't totally agree! Ask Duncan and anyone that has done Dutton or something similar. You will often find your friends are faster in your car as they will have much less mechanical sympathy :(

I haven't let anyone other than me drive mine but I wouldn't be surprised if a friend did.

thats just 1 factor. i agree that a mate will not have sympathy on your car but you'd give his car a go around a track too and compare times. you'll also have the advantage of knowing how your car handles in each situation as you've had more time in it.

it doesnt take long to learn a car's characteristics on a track but it'd still give you a fair idea of who is the better driver.

Tosh, the ATESSA does take readings from the lateral g sensors, and if you watch the gauge in corners it will mainly not be AWD if at all, mid corner (depending on corner) and on corner exit, yes, its AWD as the forward sensor is giving a big reading, and the computer is designed to use more front tourque

Maybe mine has a grid dancer and i dont know about it, but ive seen other R32's do the same thing in the same conditions, nevertheless, the point of this thread was to help stan save a dollar by buying cheap tyres, and yes, you're correct, grip means shorter life in general.

you guys must be pretty good to be watching the attessa guage mid corner! i must have looked at it about 10 times in my life! lol.

Yeah i kept a keen eye on it when i first got the car, then stopped looking at it after i got used to it :dry:

4wd = cheaters.

Stan the 451 are excellent road tyres, and I assume the 452 would also be good. Also Dunlop SP9000 (we got them on the Z) are great as well. In fact I did a 1.57 around eastern creek with a passenger on those 451s lol

How many k did they last? Did they wear evenly? Apart from 1 track day what else did you do to kill them?

LOL Duncan... yes I knew the 451s were a good tyre; mate who got them for me said they retailed at around $430 each but got them for me at $200 a pop.

The lasted hmm; less than 5,000km? This was after 1 trackday, 2 dyno sessions; and a few burnouts (well constant burnouts if you count the loss of traction on the road)

I blame the tuner >_<

Anyways, it's looking like more 451s at the moment; I'll just be more careful with them >_<
