hi, thinking of ricing up my car for my czns formal, what better way then putting on an undercar light show!

the main problem im having is whether to buy neons, or the led kits? (off ebay)

im worried about the led kits being spotty (uneven lighting).

has anyone tried both? if so good and bad on each please.

no postwhoring please.

I used to sell these through my business...back in the day. Neons give a much better spread of light where as leds tend to be spotty as you said. Vegas Glow have a product called fading neon kits which are probally more of what you are after. Where the light runs up and down the tubes to engine revs of music or whatever. From memory there about 240 for a kit so a little more than standard neons.

Only thing with neons though is for them to look good you have to be able to mount them so that when you are standing beside the car you can see the tube itself only the light, so you need to have some decent skirts on the car and it also needs to be fairly low to the ground so you get a good bright spread of light. If the car is high or you can see the tubes it just looks plain shit regardless.

If you are in Melb, forgot to look before I started typing this send me a pm and i'll give you the address of the place that imports vegas glow stuff there in nunawading think you can buy for them without a dealer account, or on ebay I have dealt with 'online performance autos' many times before and there very good they should be able to get them in for you at a reasonable price if you ask.

i remmeber a while ago a guy was distributing really bright LED's that changed colour etc displayed multicolours etc. looked really nice and even but price tag of like $700.

this was 2 years ago , dunno if its gone down yet. but it really looked 100x better than any neon and other led set i've seen.

i can't remember which forum i saw this on..i think www.caraudioaustralia.com . didnt pay much attention sorry.

Guys the question was "which one", not "would you". He'd said it was only for a formal drive.

a led kit, or an L.E.D. kit. its not led as in lead, the metal, they are Light Emitting Diodes. You studying a Bachelor Ed, or just wish you were?

THought that seeing as others were posting answers to questions that werent asked..... i would too!

depends on how much of a risk taker you are, i guess.

whether you like to live on the edge and all that, night-rider.

I dont see how a set of neons is any different to a set of chrome 18s. neither are gonna make your car go faster. Neither is a nismo or HKS sticker etc. but people still put them on.

Im all for neons, its part of the seen. i dont HAVE any, but i dont pay out those that do. If done properly, they can look very good, hey.

Not sure how similar your neon laws are compared to us over in NZ but I believe to have neons here the tube has to be out of view and also any undercar lighting has to diffuse rather than concentrated light, ie. a spotlight.

    • Is rebuilding it even a thing? Where would the shop find parts for it? I looked at some off these local online stores for my r34 and suprisingly they had brand new aftetmarket ones for $600-800 I think. I guess r32 might be a bit tougher.
    • I remember the days when E85 was priced in according to the $ per km outcome. Sure E85 was about 35% cheaper, but you also lost about 35% range... now it's fked..
    • They do. The pale yellow translucent ones from Japan were .... I dunno. Useless? Whiteline and SuperPro are probably fairly similar. There's bound to be a range of different hardnesses amongst the dozens of options on the market. The simple fact is that the pineapples don't get up inside the bush at all. They just sort of exist in the space between the washer/bracket and the subframe's bush outer tube, and...exert a bit of force between them? Or something like that. I'm sure that with enough provocation, they will simply allow one to move wrt the other.
    • I'm not sure they came in different hardnesses? Going from memory only - I had set them up in the balanced setup. I also have poly bushes, so I have both poly bushes and pineapples. This is what my memory tells me at least. I'll have to take a look under there to be sure. The tramp was so bad that I managed to eject/kill a diff bushing, so those I know are stock. The tramp is bad enough that you are 200% sure you are doing severe damage to the car. It's not just chirping or vibration, it feels like you're hitting a speed hump/kerb 10 times a second. The issue has persisted between subframes! (I went from Hicas to non hicas subframe and replaced every bush a few years ago now) so I'm entirely lost. Every arm is factory.
    • Can recommend the Frenchys kit, been using it 2 years now with no issue, very happy with it.  Only thing for me was upgrading the thermo fan but I am super fussy on cooling.   Also interested in electric AC, partly for boot mount to have a clean bay and partly would love the idea of cooling off the car before i get in. The battery setup to do that might be tricky / expensive though.  Found this an interesting watch.
