hi all. i think my water pump is in the way out. it has started to leak out of the little hole on the bottom side of it.

i was wondering if anyone knew how much it costs to rebiuld one?

and will a gtr or a N1 fit on to the rb20? as i plan on useing my car for the track and drift and an upgrade would be good.

thanks for any info

hey Damo,

I have done this myself. The VL - RB30 - Pump fits straight on... I got mine real cheap, contact the barn. should be around $50. If you get to doing that depending on your k's (low from memory) I would look at doing your timing belt (it has to come off anyway) and when you do your belt it is best to do your pulleys (idler and tensioner, $400 from Nissan, $90 from NSK) if you want some more help / advice, let me know!

Todd

You don't rebuild, you replace. I would run a genuine pump, mine is actually a genuine holden RB30E item (so Nissan in disguise)...

There is a suggestion by a few people that the RB30E pump will cavitate and not cool efficiently with sustained high RPMS; however personally I think the RB30 one is much better at say 1000-4500 rpm which is where you spend 95% of the time, it cools my motor much better than the original pump did.

The N1 pump is the ideal one. I belive it is a straight bolt up. If you can get one at a good price, then do it.

I know alot of people have problems with cars overheating in traffic who have N1 pumps on the mainland, as they don't pump enough water around for low rpm driving. But we probably can get away with it down here, as we don't have much traffic. A new stockers one would be fine, you wouldn't need an N1 unless it was a dedicated track car.

thanks for the replys.

i checked out nissan today and i can get a genuin pump off them for around $100 and around $80 of the barn but i wasnt sure if the non gen would be as good?

i had thought about doing the full service but its still about 30k off and i cant realy aford it. or more to the point i wont be able to fix up a few other things and do a brake upgrade.

thanks damo

thanks for all the input im going to get a genuine on. then i cna rest easy at night. i wont be doing the timing belt yet as i have just orded some adjustable cam gears from the group buy. mmmmm my rb will have some mid range. so ill do all the bearings and pullys when i fit them.

well im not sure. i plan on getting a tune after everything is fitted. most cam gears are set up on the dyno so i gess a quick tune is done as well. they are ment to improve lag and help the torque curve through the mid range. from what i have read they do make a good difference. they are in the group buy for around the $160 a pair which is realy good compared to the jap brand ones. these ones are made in the USA.

im also getting my new rotors out of the groub buy as they are half the price i can get them through my suplyer for.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
