Shaun
Hmmm, could work its way off, might be tight fit now but on a warm day travling along the freeway at 110 km/h gearbox gets hot. But I'm lazy so I'd probably do the same Yeah, i know what you mean. I was actually a bit more concerned about a circlip working its way off a groove that i fabricated. The one that broke in my car didnt move at all. The shaft actually snapped inside the sender assembly. Too late now anyway; i put the box back in today. Shaun. BHDave
Hmmm, could work its way off, might be tight fit now but on a warm day travling along the freeway at 110 km/h gearbox gets hot. But I'm lazy so I'd probably do the same Considering the circlip design used on the r33 drive is the odd ball of the family and the rest of the drives use an interference fit with some kind of adhesive i think you'll be fine. Mine hasn't caused any problems yet and it regularly sees track work and speeds in excess of 180km/h. Simon-S14
yeah, best solution for me was to drill a hole through the base of the drive, through to the shaft and out the other side then tap a roll pin through it. Shaun
I started my car today and noticed that the speedo needle was jumping slightly at about 20km/hr (thats as fast as i could go while the car was on stands). Im a bit dissappointed about this as i think it might suggest that the gear might be under unwanted force or something. What do you guys reckon? There arent any sharp bends in the speedo cable either, which would also make the needle jump. Cubes
Mines always done that. Since I bought the car a good 6years ago when its odo was at 60k. Now 258,000km's later it still does it. But only at low speed from 0-20km/h then after its smooth. Simon-S14
binding doesnt help thats for sure, any bends in the drive will cause bouncing... exp when the cable set up is 15 years old now q Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/134132-rb25-gearbox-into-r32/page/9/#findComment-3646875 Share on other sites
BHDave
Yep, the jumping is cable related, not drive. Mine did it before the swap so i tried to get the electronic drive working, but failed and went back to cable. Cubes
I took some pics of the r32 rb25 gearbox adaptor plate. Its a thin piece of 6mm plate with 3 holes drilled in it. You could get away with a 4mm piece. Any less and the box will foul on the tunnel. Cubes
The standard x-member bolts up to it. 3 bolts + 1 nut + locktight in total are required. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/134132-rb25-gearbox-into-r32/page/9/#findComment-3689295 Share on other sites
Gts-t
I put my 33 box in on sat with no dramas, will be making up exactly what you have joel. Just waiting on the driveshaft people to swap the 33 yoke onto the 32 tailshaft, and then to work out the speedo sender. Sweet, so just two plates, and stock R32 x member and your done. So your pritty much just conecting the gear box to one of the original body bolt holes and using the plates for extra strength. Thats it. The plate is there for 2 reasons.. To space the box down a touch so it doesn't foul the tunnel and to provide a little extra stability to the xmember as when you only use one of the origional bolt holes the back of the xmember hangs off the floor pan. Thats where the plate provides support for it. Gts-t
Almost finished the conversion today, only have to put the speedo sender in and extend a wire for one of the sensors that plug into the box. For the plates i chose not to space the gearbox down as it wasnt close to fouling and i didnt want to put the box on any bad angles. I cut away some of the crossmember and fitted the plates underneath. I also welded them in, i then trimmed the bits i cut out and refitted them in also by welding. I then ground them back for a nice look and painted it all black. Pics tomorrrow The tailshaft left this monring for universal driveshafts in geebung (qld) the guys did a perfect job swapping over the yokes, and obviously balanced it before it was retured at 445 today very happy with the service and price which was $175 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/134132-rb25-gearbox-into-r32/page/9/#findComment-3691201 Share on other sites
Cubes
Thats strange as I found the top of the gearbox snagged the floor pan with the xmember around 2mm away from the floor pan. So I was forced to space it away. :S Did you massage the floor pan a touch? I wont be dropping my engine and gearbox in till late april early may so I wont be able to verify if your plate fits the same on each car but its worth checking so future people dont have to messure their own. I didnt touch the tunnel/floor pan at all, the box fitted in great. I do have a hoist and gearbox lifter tho Edited March 3, 2008 by 2630GTS Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/134132-rb25-gearbox-into-r32/page/9/#findComment-3691790 Share on other sites
