sorry for yet another hijack  , but is that autospeed fuel adjuster and boost controller thing as good as the pfc (when i comes to air/fuel tuning and boost controlling)? would this be recommended as my next mod since after installing and splitdump/front pipe im now running at slightly higher boost than normal.

hey lanky71, the first mod i did to my 34 was the FMIC and pod filter (yes i know its 2 intake mods but the 34 sedan is a sleeper kind of car, cops dont care too much where i am anyway :) ), then a split dump/front pipe and a custom catback system (including the cat, it came to about $650 - done by a local exhaust shop); and yes, i also got a bov and placed it in the 34 auto, bascailly i got sick of it after a few months and took it off ( its also a cop magnet) .

Just a question... how'd it sound on an auto btw?

i reckon if u had to make the choice between a pod or a fmic, go the cooler. see what GTRgeoff has in his writeup on airboxes and get a good panel filter. My 2c

oh and geoff, that lock bar, good stuff mate. i love it! easy as to fit

the 34's came standard with the same bov as all the other rb20/25s, which is also the same as on a wrx (although the bolt holes are in different spots).

and the 1 intake mod doesn't apply in QLD either.

Hows it going mad? :O

the BOV was on the auto tranmission r34's as well? (i'm fairly new to nissan's)

I'll explain why i'm asking these questions (might not matter with newer cars, but i'll mention it anyway):

I had a mkIII supra previously (Ga70, 1G-GTE engine, Auto, used a MAF sensor not a MAP sensor like the 1JZ) and it did not have a stock BOV. I got a BOV put on next to the throttle body. I then added a cat back exhaust with HI Flow cat and a HKS superpower flow pod kit. Once that was done, did a dyno run and the car didnt perform as expected (almost worse acctually). Turns out the ECU could not cope with the now quicker and larger amount of air flying into the engine, and started flooding the engine with fuel (even had tiny droplets of fuel spluttering out the exhaust. A SAFC had to be installed to fix the problem and to make the most of the mods (got even more HP with the SAFC). After reading about it on the web, it seems that ECU cars without a stock BOV or with recirculation valve factor this in its air fuel calculations (is this true anyone?). Introducing a atmo BOV or POD kit threw these calculations out the window apparently. Again this problem plagued older ECUs, and i'm sure the r34's electronics are well advanced compared to a Ga70 supra, atleast i hope so *chuckle*.

Newer ECU or Not I'd still recommend get a SAFC when you start changing AF parts, purely to get the most of your mods.

    • Whoa, that's a name I've not see for a long time! Sorry to hear about the engine / turbo damage.  Fwiw with any engine problems it often really a case of just seeing what happens when it's apart, ymmv - I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the damage isn't even from the turbo failure, or possibly from a combination.  The airflow between cylinders isn't dead even, injectors can go off over time as well, with the turbos overboosting if you didn't have upgraded fuel system there could have possibly been a bit of leaning out - stock triggering is often a bit unreliable by this age too.  Basically its an old engine and a few things could have been going on, and you won't know how much work is needed until the engine is apart.
    • I'm just shocked there's a euro driver on our roads who is thinking of other road users and not attempting to blind everyone. I wonder if Prank uses his indicator too...
    • Its hard to tell really. The Q50 owner's forum talks about it a lot and has quite a few people directly affected, but no idea what % of cars sold actually had the block replaced. Also, there seem to be 2 distinct issues which both get diagnosed by Infiniti as requiring a block replacement (no wonder they are going broke) 1. "Porous block" where coolant mixes with oil through thin or poorly cast parts of the block 2. Head coolant gallery plugs not sealing. If I was noticing engine coolant loss I'd start with cooling system pressure test (as always) and then I'd pull the cam covers and reseal the coolant gallery plugs on both side before worrying about a potentially porous block.  If neither of those did the trick it would be put in a second hand engine out of japan; I haven't checked pricing but I'm sure there are plenty around by now as they've been in production 10+ years
    • To clarify what I posted above, I thought you both had a situation where it cancelled sooner one way than the other.....if it is reasonably even where it cancels in either direction that is probably normal (consider gentle movements like lane changes, you don't want it to need half a turn of lock to turn the indicators off)
    • Son, in this country, that is a piece of Gyprock. f**king drywall. FFS! I also like the autocorrect of trailer to tablet. I was reading it and thing, "what the hell drugs is he on?" Then the photo made it clear enough.
