Hi, yesterday I installed an R32 GTSt (RB20DET) power on my R32 GTS4 (RB20DET). I removed the vanes from the back of the pump and blocked off the rear chamber as I have removed the rear steering.

The steering seems ok until I steer to the right and the quickly to the left (or vice-versa). I get a very large amount of lag, that is the car doesn't steer in the second direction.

What could the problem be? Failed pump (might not be because it steers well the rest of the time), failed steering rack (didn't do it before I changed the pump), maybe it is the steering fluid?

Any help would be great as this sucks.

Sounds like a loose bolt somewhere. Check all of the bolts to do with the steering including rack, the steering wheel shaft, that bush inline with the steering wheel shaft, all of teh bolts at the hubs.

If not, sounds like there is alot of play in the rack.

Let us know how it goes.

The problem seemed to go away after about a day. I guess the system had not bled it self fully yet.

The steering seems a little heavy - but it is consistent so I am happy. Thanks for your comment though!
