congrats to reece and heat treatments.

Not taking anything away from reece but everyone thinking hks are scared have to be kidding they have had the record for so many years and that 7.6@181mph was down on petrol not methanol.

PRO GTR rules in japan i think state clearly that petrol must be used.

thats exactly what i was thinking. as far as i know the HKS GTR still ran on racing fuel, while this GTR is running on methanol..

either way though, it is a f**ken huge effort!!!! and good to see more GTRs are getting into the 7 sec zone nowadays, and arrogant rotories should feel chanllenged by now.....

as for GTR700, last time i heard, Mario took the car to the states??? or europe?? i dunno...hope it returns soon.

what happened to Keir Wilson's slick tyre R32?? is it still competing??

as far as i know i dont care what fuel the hks gtr ran on.

:D

We have a new World Record Holder!!!

wooot

-oh and mario took himself to eurpoe, the car is in sydney.

This seems to imply that a lack of power would be the issue if the heat treatments car was tuned on petrol. I do not think this would be the case. The formula one cars of the 80s were restricted to petrol too but still were able to run upwards of 60 psi boost on petrols with high toluene percentages. On the other hand, the HKS car does not comply with the safety rules required of ANDRA/NZDRA - from memory it only had a bolt in roll cage and a non OEM firewall, amongst lots of other things which required special dispensation for it to race in Australia. It would be quite a bit lighter than the heat treatments car because of this. The HKS racing fuel it ran would also not be legal for ANDRA/NZDRA sanctioned events. My guess is they would have brewed special toluene rich fuels to use in that car whenever it ran.

So indeed the playing field is not level, but in my opinion it is slanted in favour of the japanese car which does not have to meet the stringent fuel and safety regulations required here (or in the US for that matter). That is why the efforts of the heat treatments team are even more impressive, and why my guess is you'll never see the HKS car run outside Japan other than for exibition events, as its simply not legal for sanctioned drag racing in most countries. Another way of thinking is "bugger the rules" - the record we are talking about is fastest 4WD on the planet over the quarter mile, there are no real rules except for the need to meet the relevant safety regulations of the sanctioning bodies which run the tracks......

In any case, at this level of tune, power is not the issue, theres usually plenty of that available, its getting the car down the track which is the hard part, which dictates that track conditions and the tuning skills of the team are the most important variables.

My information suggests that the boost levels used in the heat treatments car are still relatively low, so since its eligible to race a sanctioned drag racing tracks , it will tend to have better track conditions to play with as they grapple with the power, so I reckon the HKS people (while not necessarily being "scared"), have lost the crown of fastest 4WD on the planet, and probably will find it very hard to get it back, if they try at all.

Here here! Well said.

As you state, at this level, power is not the issue. Setup and track conditions mainly govern the the times produced. I for one don't care whether Outright GTR's run on methanol @ 40psi or on "pump fuel" @ 55psi.

Just watching that Heat Treatments car black tracking all over the shop was enough for me!

Cheers, Ben

Very well said Ben.

I am behind that all the way, Any people picking on the records and stuff. Geez what more do you want.

Its number 1 Baby!!!

Only thing i dont agree with is the other side of the story there ben saying the HKS GTR didnt meet andra requirements.

I am very certain by time it raced at Willowbank it was Tech inspected and passed. Only had a few minor modifications.

The rest doesnt matter - same story - it waws certified it ran the numbers.

:)

Times are times, i hate people taking things away from times because of fuel, nos, tires etc.

wooot JAMBO here we come!!!!

mick

Funny though it uses An HKS 2.6 and basicly nearly everything on the engine is from them.

May of well bought a cratey

Oh and the hks drag GTR had been modified to meet all ANDRA rules even the HKS drag gas was used. The roll cage just needed a tailshaft loop added(peter clearly did the job) it went 181mph its highest its gone in just a couple of runs in Australia. If japan didnt have goat tracks for racing the record would of been way lower oh and we are talking a 6 yrs ago boys.

did i try to pick on the record???

i was simply stating the facts i have observed and by saying that i have taken credit away from them???

f**ken give me a break.......

and always remember records are there to be broken. one day, there will be another car breaking this record, and that particular car might as well be the HKS R33. remember all of these are made in japan.

    • Ah yeah I forget we aren't talking about an RB.
    • Fellow ADHDer to fellow ADHDer; Don't chase that paint perfection. Paint the bumpers, and put them on.  Leave the respray for another day. Plus, no one is going to see those old areas above. Any spots of surface rust, give them a clean up, prime, then hit with a white paint just to protect them from rusting. Again, no one can see it.   #Mine hasn't been on the road since 2011 cause ADHD... I've slowly learned not to keep f**king with shit if I don't need to...
    • That would be interested if it's the case as seems like it would make the job a lot messier but subaru sells OEM gaskets so seems it might of had it.
    • Fuel tank is out. Looks pretty bloody good under (ie above) the fuel tank.  Amazing how good the factory e-coat holds up in the hidden areas.  No where near as much body deadener to get rid of as the front but still not looking forward to it!  Shit of a job.  I'm thinking I might grab a needle scaler and give that a go before I attack it with the angle grinder and wire wheel which is how I did the front 2/3's of the car.  Feels good to be working on the car again but who knows how long it will last!  Hopefully I can get it further forward than where it was prior to this last block of work when I decided to go back 10 steps further down the rabbit hole from where i already was! The problem is, I'm realising how hard it will be to repair and paint the bumpers, which cannot be put back on the car, and have a good paint match. There are also areas where it would be VERY hard to hide the new paint where it transitions from old paint. Like this- There is only one way to do that perfectly and I really dont want to have to do what that means I would have to do... 🤦‍♂️
    • Pretty sure the factory assembly doesn't have any gasket at all, just RTV.
