kristafa
hey, i've looked through people's how-to's on installing short shifters, etc.. but i haven't been able to find anything about putting a standard shifter back in place. this question is for an rb20det manual gearbox. there 2 clips, one that looks like a standard circlip, and the other looks like a piston ring from my cbr250 (but i'm sure it's not). The circlip seems to be a smaller diameter than the hole it sits in. my guess is that the piston ring lookalike is meant to sit in the recessed groove in the wall of the shift holder to hold down the plastic bushes or whatever you call em. BUT HOW DO YOU COMPRESS IT ENOUGH TO PUT IT IN THERE? taking it out was simple from memory - so simple i thought to myself i wont even have to take note on how to put this bloody thing back together - WRONG! any responses will be rewarded APPRECIATED MUCHLY! cheers, chris. shanef
go grab urself a pair of circlip pliers. if that fails, just bin the clip and whack it back together Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/135290-how-do-i-put-my-gear-shifter-back-in/#findComment-2515579 Share on other sites
Haysey
you talking the one thats nearly 360deg with two small holes where the gap is? get some needle nose pliers and squeeze this gap smaller or you can go el dodgo and put half in, then a flathead in the small recess in either side and then slide the circlip down and push it in with the screw driver Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/135290-how-do-i-put-my-gear-shifter-back-in/#findComment-2515589 Share on other sites
kristafa
it's not the circlip that is the concern, i can compress that with my needle nose pliers without much difficulty.. the clip i'm talking about is the one i have drawn below: it looks like a piston ring and is the same thickness as the circlip but slightly larger diameter... cheers, chris. shanef
if you look in the top of the gearbox where the shifter sits, there is a groove, this is where said clip sits. its a pain to get in put u've gotta be forceful with it, but it does go in Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/135290-how-do-i-put-my-gear-shifter-back-in/#findComment-4606011 Share on other sites
