Hi all,

I'm finally thinking of parting with my much loved R33 GTS-T which I have owned for 5 years.

After years of owning a few performance cars (CD5 NOS fed Accord VTEC, YE Calibra Turbo 4WD, 450HP GC WRX & R33 GTS-T), I'm looking for something with a bit more luxury, interior room and 4 doors.

I would love to own a 4 door sedan V35 GT350-8 but the price of one is still a bit much and I want to steer away from imports (due to insurance costs). So, I'm considering a J31 Maxima.

I know it is a "yacht" of a car and FWD but it has the VQ35DE (abeit it being detuned) which it still does the 0-100Km/h sprint in 7 secs.

Below is a pic of what it looks like but I'll be looking to get a black one in TI spec with leather and sunroof.

What you all think of the J31 Maxima? Let me hear it. Good and bad points before I go buy one.

Cheers.

what do they go for these days... $25k?

its good bang for your buck, its new, heaps of features and looks nice... go for it

Yeah, should be able to pick one up 2nd had for mid to high $20K depending on year and mileage. The ST spec ones are going for low $20K.

I've considered the new Liberty but it's a bit slow and underpowered unless you get the GT or 3.0R but they are way over my budget. Also considering the Accord Euro and Forester XT but as you said, best bang for buck is the Maxima...

yeah enough room to hold 2 eskies, 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 kids bikes, 2 adult foldup chairs, 2 kids foldup chairs, a foldup table, and a kids push go kart and still have enough get-up-and-go to shame most things on the road, excluding heavily modded imports of course, not bloody bad if you ask me

Yes, I have considered the Stag but, no offence to all Stag owners, the look doesn't really do it for me plus, I've stated in my original post, I'm steering away from imports. I've actually thought of the Legnum VR4 wich looks the part but - No more imports...

Why no imports, if you mind me asking..........? I dont think I'll ever buy an aussie domestic market car for a long time!

More of a personal preference... I said the same thing as you when I bought my R33 but after awhile it wears off. Also with the grey imports, I don't really trust the service history (when they do come with one) or the importers, the odometer will most likely have been tampered with, insurance costs a lot more and only available from specialist insurers.

I'm after a newer car, around 2004 - 2006 model. Most imports are late 1990 to early 2000 models and costs the same if not more than a Aussie delivered Jap car.

Trust me, if I can get a 2004 V35 GT350-8 sedan for mid to high $20K and full comp insurance costs no more than $1K, I'd be driving it already...!

The maxima is a nice car...but for similar $$ if u look hard enough, you can definately find a V35 sedan around the 25k mark...not the 8speed auto one though  If you're spending 25K it might as well be well spent on a Skyline

Here is an example: V35 sedan

lol... too much

tell him he can keep the 20's if he drops the price a bit...

extemely nice car, i can see what you mean now

Yep... found it on Carsales... $45K? Waaaayyy too much! I saw one at a dealer on Parra Rd a few weeks ago for $38K...

Yes, you can buy V35 sedan for $25K but it's the 250GT... just not the same as a VQ35DE powered J31 or V35...
