FYI, anyone in the area stick your nose in if you are interested. Ferrari track day with a few GTRs and WRXs in the mix.

Aaron,

Who's going to be out there? Gt-R and WRX wise - I'll come out and have a look.

Regards

Andrew

Andrew,

Have a look Here for the WRX guys, Looks like Blair Strik, Grant De la Rosa and Simon Walsh are there.

Andrew, there will be at least four GTR's out there... quick ones too!!! :)

I'll be there...

Good work.

If the WRX event wasn't so close I would have ran. I'm looking to get into the 4's and match my old STi time.

See you out there.

Andrew

Calder was Great!!!

Although i didn’t stay long had a ball

HUGE thanx to Aaron for taking me for a Spin around Calder was SUPER COOL!!!!!

White 34's FLY!!!!!

Also had my suspicions answered that a skyline WILL go faster than a Ferrari Even the F40 :)

Great work guys!

bugger about the rain. it was turning out to be a great day with plenty of track time available to everyone.

The GTRs may be faster but I reckon a few of those Ferraris would have been quick if the owners were willing to risk their million dollar rides. The F50 and F40 were very sweet looking machines. Love how fat and low they are.

The F40 and F50 looked awesome, although their performance was a little dissapointing... Oh well, I guess I wouldn't wanna put my million dollar machine into the wall, like the 360 challenge did...

I have incar footage of me overtaking both of them in the same session...

Unfortunately its recorded onto one of those mini cassettes, wouldn't have a clue how to get it onto my computer.. :)

Just played it on my tv, list of cars overtaken in this session:

1. F50 (coming ontp the straight)

2. STI (back straight)

3. F40 (going into last turn, oops, shouldn't overtake while cornering!)

4. WRX (coming onto straight)

5. 355 SPYDER (which actualy put up a fight on the straight, got him into turn 1)

Might see if I can record it onto my dvd recorder, then get it onto disc, then copy to computer...

So was the event cancelled, due to rain? Was good to come out for an hour and witness the Skylines eat up all rivals in their wake :D.

Spent the rest of the day assembling IKEA bedroom furniture for the spare bedroom; what great fun :nuke:.

    • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
