Skyline Got New Bits, intercooler Finaly On

Recommended Posts

yeah i recon the gap does not help. What plugs did you buy, splitfires? I finaly got my bits together for my wasted spark. When i pulled my coil out to see the spark, i could hardly see it. LOl. so this will definatly help.

I have no CAI, yet to make it up. But i have some good ideas as to how i want to do it.

AS for the bonnet thing, well no, i don't like the look of it, but hay.

Can't wait to see the water sprays, i'll pinch your design. LOL.

Keep us posted

i bought standard coilpacks with ngk iridium 9s, i didnt see the need for splitfires as im not aiming over 200rwk and i can get the standard ones for trade price which is $50 cheaper than slitfires each coil. i didnt end up hitting the dyno because my plans on modifications have changed a little :O , ive decided to take my time making the cai and im about to pm gmb to ask him if he still has that old smic that came off his 32 along with a water spray kit, i can tell you now how to make a water spray kit cheap:

go to a wrecker and buy the biggest squarest window squirter bottle you can find (being in hobart ill suggest hobart truck spares because they have 4x4s and such, make sure they have the pump on them though as this makes it alot easier). next you buy the hosing (in my case because im using a smic im gunna get some 2nd hand stuff with the bottle) next you co to the local hardware store and buy a garden spray kit (the nozzles and whatever associated to plumb them into the water squirter) then fit it to the best possible spot you can find on your car and wire/plumb it up i might take some photos and do a diy thread for it?

as for the bonnet lifting, if you dont want to do that then look under your bonnet and think how else you can flow air through there to keep temps down, im sure thered be a way :)

pics will come soon :D

hay toffy, so how much was that a coil??? Is the any chance if the price is right, you could get more coils???

I have an R33 SMIC if they are the same you can have it. I have all the piping ect.

As to the water sprayer kit, yeah i will make my own too, just need more time and money, lol. TIME is a bit short with a growing family.

Jaycar make an excellent water kit controller, it works soooo dam well, you can run it of temp, MAP, boost ect ect, it's $60 for the kit, here is the link.

I have used this before in a different application, but very good kits.

As to the sprayers, d not use the plastic ones. Go to a farm supplier and they have 180deg spray nozzles for $5 each, they are great, not sure what the name is though.

Here are some good links too

hay toffy, got a template for an R33 CAI and all the instructions, i can also get the material ALCUBOND from a contact i have. All up a carton of beer for material PM and i will get you the details of the template. The template is not mine so i can't take credit but it looks good so far.

I should have mine setup over the next couple of weeks.

    • Sounds good.  I don't 100% understand what your getting at here. When you say, "I keep seeing YouTube videos where people have new paint and primer land on the old clearcoat that isn't even dulled down" do you mean this - there is a panel with factory paint, without any prep work, they paint the entire panel with primer, then colour then clear?  If that's what you mean, sure it will "stick" for a year, 2 years, maybe 3 years? Who knows. But at some stage it will flake off and when it does it's going to come off in huge chunks and look horrific.  Of course read your technical data sheet for your paint, but generally speaking, you can apply primer to a scuffed/prepped clear coat. Generally speaking, I wouldn't do this. I would scuff/prep the clear and then lay colour then clear. Adding the primer to these steps just adds cost and time. It will stick to the clear coat provided it has been appropriately scuffed/prepped first.  When you say, "but the new paint is landing on the old clearcoat" I am imagining someone not masking up the car and just letting overspray go wherever it wants. Surely this isn't what you mean?  So I'll assume the following scenario - there is a small scratch. The person manages to somehow fill the scratch and now has a perfectly flat surface. They then spray colour and clear over this small masked off section of the car. Is this what you mean? If this is the case, yes the new paint will eventually flake off in X number of years time.  The easy solution is to scuff/prep all of the paint that hasn't been masked off in the repair area then lay the paint.  So you want to prep the surface, lay primer, then lay filler, then lay primer, then colour, then clear?  Life seems so much simpler if you prep, fill, primer, colour then clear.  There are very few reasons to go to bare metal. Chasing rust is a good example of why you'd go to bare metal.  A simple dent, there is no way in hell I'm going to bare metal for that repair. I've got enough on my plate without creating extra work for myself lol.
    • Hi, Got the membership renewal email but haven't acted yet.  I need to change my address first. So if somebody can email me so I can change it that would be good.
    • Bit of a similar question, apprently with epoxy primer you can just sand the panel to 240 grit then apply it and put body filler on top. So does that basically mean you almost never have to go to bare metal for simple dents?
    • Good to hear. Hopefully you're happy enough not to notice when driving and just enjoy yourself.
    • I mean, most of us just love cars. Doesnt necessarily have to be a skyline.
