well 1 tank wont last you the whole day. i usually fill up in Goulburn at Caltex during the lunch break, not becuase im low on fuel, but because i dont want to be low on fuel at the end of the day and have the car to surge through the corners. doing that saves bringing jerry cans and will get you home without having to fill up on the way back... plus you can buy half decent food rather than be over charged for a 3hr old burger at the track!!!

my car doesnt like changing fuel without doing an ECU reset it's annoying as because in theory it should just learn to like it and i am sure if i left it long enough it would but a perfect example was our trip to the coast at the time i was running shell optimax extreme filled up down the coast with like 58 litres so litterally almost empty with caltex vortex and it ran like shit the whole way home aweful throttle responce.

either way i am a maybe for the track day pending my soreness :O

just how much stuff have you done to your car?

Mine behaves quite happily (unless i'm thrashing it - then i can pick the difference, slightly) on any of the 98ron fuels, and probably Castrol Vortex as well.

I can only see that being a problem if a) Your car is hyper sensitively tuned with a very highout put engine or b)You've never had it tuned at all...

i can tell you leech's car is pretty much stock. its a bloody neat example though... :O

my car doesn't give a crap which fuel is in it, it just goes when i tell it to. Vortex is no different to the other fuels. in fact it comes out of the factory at 100 Ron and is blended down to 98...

stock ecu can't be tuned so i am sort of stuck with it  oh well as i said i stick to the one type of fuel and she performs nicely

piggyback/remap?

i thought stock ecu's ran overly rich and - in general - like a dog on our fuel?

they do run overly rich and that may have been why my car was going like crap using optimax extreme would have leaned it out a little from it's usual stupidly rich then putting in a 98 ron with no ethanol made it even richer again and i am guessings that's why i ran like crap as it had to re-adjust.

In regards to the fuel thing i guess it's how you drive your car + the condition it's in i have read stories on here where people get like 300km's out of a tank either they are the biggest lead foots around or there car needs a service/tune. around town we usually get 440 - 460km's highway even more so thats why i was hoping i could make it up to the track have a run around and get back without having the fill up.

anyways back on topic i am keen to go still

I find (and i have a tuned PFC) that i depending on my right foot, i get anywhere from 300 - 360km out of 45L (what i invariably end up putting into the car, never get much lower) around Canberra (I do alot of km a week - 500 to 600 usually).

On Highway being a good boy i get 500+ and well, being naughty the worst i've seen is 270.

yes it was fun.

Whats the warmest it can get before your engine/turbo isnt happy while at the track? or everyday driving for that matter.

its inversely effected.

The colder it is, the more your turbo/engine likes it, however your tyres and the road (what you want to stick to) go off the colder it is.

Tyres prefer hot sticky conditions.

why god? why?

Stop making up fuels, it's Caltex.... pfft.

I think i'll give it a go, probably be the only auto POS on the track, and the heaviest... but it'd look cool seeing a 'volvo' dominating over some stock R33's. i doubt i could do much against anything modified more than i am.

being auto and heavy, just be mindfull of your brakes. i probably dont have to tell you this, but when your on the track, just go for say 3-4 hard laps than have 1-2 slow laps to cool everything down. thats how i keep the temps down. otherwise everything over heats and you have to pull off the circuit....

I might be asking a dumb question but is that for heavy auto cars or everyone?? :P

    • If doing that ^, I'd take the idle up valve out and plug the hole in the pump.
    • You can try capping the power steering idle up valve at both ends if it's old. The valve and the intake manifold. That is something that is known to fail in Toyotas with age and it will suck power steering fluid into the intake and burn it in the engine which can cause issues. Then bleed it again with engine off first. Do like 30+ lock to lock turns with the front wheels off the ground.
    • Hi Brent, I am wondering if you ever worked this out? I have upgraded this unit to a newer one and everything works bar the reverse camera, so i really want to know what plugs are what so I can patch the camera through. many thanks in advance Mike
    • Once you have to get up in the morning and be useful, you suddenly value sleep it turns out :p
    • Update:   smoke test all pipes no issues cleaned reservoir   fluid put in ( dexron 3 atf)   steering turn side to side and could hearing  gurgling from steering rack which I assumed was air lock, opened one of the steering rack connections and could see loads of air getting pushed out( not sure if you meant to do that / whether it will re introduce air into system)   anyways, loads of side to side sound was gone. Turned car on, pump was slightly ( barely) wining so turned side to side few more turns and fluid level when car on was almost none in resorvoir which I guess is normal if car is one. Turned car of and fluid was gushing out. Almost 200-300cc was pushed out. Repeated engine off side to side followed  by engine on and same result       going mad now. It seems system is either sucking air in whilst on or there is tons of air which I am not giving it enough time to bleed. Thoughts?   would it work like brake caliper if I open steering rack copper pipes and let gravity pull all air out?   or maybe have a restriction somewhere? What is the red circled item, could that be blocked? It i
