Aftermarket ECU Help???

Hey,

A friend of mine is putting an aftermarket computer in his car very soon but is having troubles deciding what to put in..

Basically it is a R32.. Mods are exhaust/filter/cooler/hi flo, will be adding s5 injectors when computer goes in.

What would people recommend and why? Pro's/Con's...

At this stage it is a toss up between Microtech/Link or Power FC.

Autronic would be ideal but out of price range.

i'd go for a fully fledged computer, not just an FC plugin...although my opinion is becoming increasingly swayed over time from hearing good things...nevertheless, a wolf, mtx-12 (microtech) or a link are all good options...think of the future, how far will you expect it to go, and can you save money now by making a more informed decision...ie don't waste your money, any of it.

yea that's wat my tuner told me as well. work out a projected hp figure you want to make and then work to that. otherwise u'll just spend money for nothing finding you'll have to upgrade very soon.

what i do is usually over-do it. so in the event that i have to upgrade anything i find that most of my parts are sufficient to handle it.

You should be plesantly suprised to fine out the factory ECU is fully mapable.... contact me if you'd like to discuss/..

Hi 002 NVS, I agree with the good dr, the R32 ECU is remappable, easy, cheap and effective. Maintains all the trick factory stuff, so the engine runs nicely, handles air con, power steer, electric loads etc.

The only downside is that if you make more mods later on, the retune will involve reburning the chip. If you intend to make lots of changes over time then a programeable ECU may well work out cheaper.

The next up the ladder is a Apexi Power FC, there are a few around for RB20DET's and they offer all the nice stuff the factory ecu has plus online retuning (no chip burning required).
