well in case anyone is wondering what happened at jambo apart from my converter in the gearbox shitting itself. my n1 oil pump decided to colapse and melt the bearings onto the conrods f**ked my engine.

piece of shit cost me about 10g damage.. aparently their a major problem and little word of advise dont buy one if your running big power.

apparently the jun or cusco ones are around 2g but they the best but apparently so are the n1 pumps ....yea right......

ahhh thats why you were your nice happy self ........................................ NOT

ya rude bastard... well now i know.. sorry to hear that mate, was waiting to see it on track too..

Nothing wrong with N1 pumps

Its the purpose and the treatment that kills them.

Not always,

mine let go on me a few weeks ago, and i hadnt given her a thrash for at least a week.

got myself a stage 2 HKS pump. apparantly these are made to withstand +900HP engines. Not cheap though, cost me $1200 with labour

N1 not too good with big power.....................

If you were building a 900HP engine, you would surely do your research and opt for a JUN or Trust equivilent pump in the first place.

Like R31 Nismoid said, its funny how people just blame the N1 pump when in many cases people havent properly researched their oil pump requirements properly and just fitted an N1 pump to a car that may require something with more flow capacity/higher strength.

well i did research and after asking people what was the best everone said n1 apparently not i didnt care how much it cost thats just what was recomended to me so i took peoples advise...

Who told you the N1 was 'the best' - And more to the point, best for what exactly?

Sorry to hear about your engine :pirate:

Hmm, i was thinking of buying a N1 oil and water pump for my 32 but purely for preventative maintence purposes, but now i'm questioning that, should I?. I'm only running a few mods at the moment, about 130-140rwkw and i'm aiming for 200 down the track. Seems a logical selection for my type of applicaton, no? But a few questions; Do N1 pumps bolt straight on to a RB20DET? What's the price difference between N1 and genuine stock parts For the RB?

i spoke to them at high octaine in sydney they recomended them as well as a few othe r people building big hp cars but i guess i no now,,,,,

have to get another set of crower conrods if anyone nows who can do a good price..

An N1 pump will be more than ample for your application.

sorry to hear that campbell. I know of a few cases now of failed N1 oil pump causing engine failure. It's enough to convince me not to use one in a future build. A friend of mine had one let go just recently after getting his car back on the road. the pump gear just broke. It seems they may have had some quality control problems with them? Jun pump is good value at around $1100 or so.

Once again depending on who you talk to. From what I have been told the N1 pumps are slightly more suited to higher rpm applications. In which case the stock item is the way to go. But hey, just what I have been told. I havent got the equipment to do my own independent tests.

okay n1 oil pumps are okay i guess...street driving.. i def would not recommend an n1 oil pump on the circuit

i would tend to go for a jun or tomei oil pump it really depends what u are going to use the car for and how much power your pushing....

has anyone taken apart an n1 oil pump and standard oil pump to see what the differences are...?

oh great.. i have my newly built motor sitting on a stand in the garage with an n1 pump on the front ready to put back in the car..

really didnt need to read this thread :)

Its always the way, its not a very convincing thread if you have a N1 pump.

I run 440 rwhp and have a N1 pump, have been running it for about two years no probs yet, and i hope not in the future fingers crossed.

Blown motor i feel for you it hurts.

exactly

Dont automatically presume that because everyone uses the N1 pump that its the suited pump for your application.

Everything in life has its limitations,

Figure out exactly what your aiming for, then fit what is suited.

When you say "N1 pumps are no good for big power" how much power are we talking exactly before shit goes pearshaped?

it really depends what u use the car for ---track 300rwkw i killed 2 n1 oil pumps....pieces of shit... i have a tomei oil pump and i wouldnt use anything else... and i also have more power...

everyday driving n1 is fine but if u have big power 330-360rwkw + i would recommend to change it even for street.

    • Hi everyone! I’m the new owner of a 1996 R33 GTS-T, I’ve purchased this car over from Queensland and brought it to Western Australia and I’ve found that there is a hole cut out in the engine bay for the FMIC that enters into the wheel well (fender liners are in the boot). For anyone that has had to get their car over the PITS here, will this be a major issue?
    • Yeah I've spotted this one too, whenever it's lotto superdraw week and I'm browsing car sales dot com for my new ride They must be dreaming, maybe it's worth 150k for the link to Brock?
    • 100% accurate!  We are a pack of know it alls....  But, I bet people go to you when they have a problem! I've been on a bit of a clean up rampage too over the past month!  I've thrown more shit in the bin over the past 2 weeks than I have in the past 3 years combined! Anyway, it's all good fun being different! My wife sometimes does not agree!
    • ADHD in all form isn't about "can focus, or can't focus" or is hyper active or isn't etc.   It's all a dysregulation. Either time feels to be stationary, or time just vanishes in a split second. We are either under focussed on the task at hand (as we're over focussed on our surroundings) or we have no idea an atomic bomb went off beside us as we're so hyper focussed and locked in on things.   Not to mention the rapid fire thought process. What it takes a "normal" process to think up a solution to a problem, ADHD will be able to give you 5 different ways to solve the problem, and the pros and cons of each. While we can be highly impulsive and lack the ability to "control ourselves" we can also become paralysed with the inability to make a decision for ourselves. While most of us have an OCD like requirement for perfection, we lack the ability often to remain focussed to get things to a perfect state. Those with undiagnosed ADHD as adults, can often find the last part actually stops them ever attempting to do things that they have the ability to do, as the reasoning is often "if I can't do it perfectly, it's not worth doing"   As for projects... Ha ha ha, I still need to take the other half of my wall trim down in the Fiance's office so I can paint it. Need to finish digging and running the back yard drains, my R33, getting the Ninja bike registered (now being sold), the moped project, fixing either of the lawn mowers so they're reliable, along with a myriad of other things.   It's why I've been going through lately and just being brutal and clearing projects off that I won't actually ever complete. IE, moped will go to the tip, or be given away, bike is being sold, Subaru project being sold, some parts for other projects given away. Or I've been making myself focus on one thing at a time, by ticking off the smallest quickest ones first.   There's also a reason by our mid twenties we seem to be "know it alls", as we've all been down some of the weirdest and oddest rabbit holes when you follow the dopamine trail. It's often also why we're more a jack of all trades, but not a master of one.   However, pretty much all of my hobby projects, in one way or another, all come back around to automotive. That's my zen area.
    • Remember reading about this not too long ago. been for sale for a long time  this is like when the wife says you need to sell the car so you put it up for a ridiculous price no one will pay
