N1 Oil Pump Killed My Engine .....

it really depends what u use the car for ---track 300rwkw i killed 2 n1 oil pumps....pieces of shit... i have a tomei oil pump and i wouldnt use anything else... and i also have more power...

everyday driving n1 is fine but if u have big power 330-360rwkw + i would recommend to change it even for street.

Hahahah I run 380rwkw+ depending on tune and boost, might look into safeguarding against premature engine failure and split with the mullah for a JUN/Tomei Pump :) $1200 including labour is better than adding another 0 on the end of that for a complete rebuild imo.

why does high horsepower cause oil pump failure?

I was thinking the same thing other than increased oil heat from larger turbos, the engine is only going to rev to similar revolutions as a smaller powered engine unless your running CRAZY BIG power and a HKS 2.6 that revs out to 11 000rpm. Or is it the speed that these revolutions can be reached (acceleration) that causes them to stop working.

Hence the original question of how much power.

i dont think it's just a matter of power. it's 2 things. 1: what application it's used for. there is a big difference between a street car that is mostly below 5000rpm and a track car that is mostly above 5000rpm and 2: quality control. some people have had N1 pumps that failed because they were faulty.

i have also killed to n1 pumps!

it appears from my experience (which is limited) to be the type of application that you use your car for,

there is another thread on this somewhere? if drag racing your car and your harsh ignition cuts or launch control it does seem to play apart in breaking the oil pump gears. mine failed with rally use but we also were using lots of launch control and heaps of launches. some circuit cars would not see the problem as they do not launch them anywhere near as often.

also i now use a tomei supplied by high octane as it has been great, no issues at all and cost a lot lessthan a very damaged engine as we also found out. you must remember though that these pumps also pump a lot more oil and require big sumps and lots of oil return or you will end up hurtingthe engine anyway or spitting it all out the breather, especially if your doing pleanty of above 6000 rpm driving.

I drift.... so high rpm is commonplace. As I said $1200 for a JUN/Tomei Pump VS $12000 for a new bottom end... pretty sure ill just fork out the dosh as I already have a modified sump :)

this jamberoee i will have a 100hp shot of nitros running c16 fuel and i just took out my trust 6 speed dog box and put in a powerglide with a trans brake i am hoping for in the 9'' s

Sorry dude but your pump never had a chance.

i cant believe your engine builder didnt reccomend a pump more suitable........

N1 PUMP HAS ANTI CAVITATION PLATE WITH 6 LARGER BLADES COMPARED TO THE FACTORY 8 BLADE. PROVIDES HIGHER FLOW AND PRESSURE THAN FACTORY OIL PUMP

USING A HIGH VOLUME SUMP ALSO RECOMMENDED .

i think they were talking about n1 water pumps there benigno as the blades and plate are for the water pump, the oil pump is a gear pump

okay n1 oil pumps are okay i guess...street driving.. i def would not recommend an n1 oil pump on the circuit

i would tend to go for a jun or tomei oil pump it really depends what u are going to use the car for and how much power your pushing....

has anyone taken apart an n1 oil pump and standard oil pump to see what the differences are...?

The above two statements are so filled with rubbish its not funny.

I would urge people to totally disregard both of them.

There are countless circuit GTR's down here running over 370rwkw, ALL use N1 Oil pumps.

Some into the 400rwkw region, still not an issue to date (over 2 years)

If the Vic GTR's can do it, its quite safe to assume that ALL others should be the same.

It cant be helped if your doing limiter launches and massive RPM burnouts all the time... which, isnt circuit racing at all, and isnt street driving either.

benigno - you will be fine with the N1 oil pump. Its people who are doing constant burnouts, massive amounts of high RPM launches etc that have the issues

frankxinyu without atleast a big sump ( or at the very least overfilling a standard sump) you a just going to be a rb26 statistic, i have been to quite a few sprints, circuits & rallies in the last two years and it's so depressing seeing another gtr getting towed home with a bigend knock.

i think you may be mixed up with water pumps.

very sorry to hear man...........

it gives me a lot of thinking to do now....i should invest some money on the oil pump/sump so that i can race mine on the circuit without killing the engine.

for one i was told N1 pumps are good, bulletproof.

depends on the car setup mate.

GTR's (again) here getting around with 350rwkw, stock sumps without an issue.
