Hey, i used to have a pod, but i figured that it was getting heat soaked alot so i bought a ($160) high flow panel for it and coulndt be happier (i know $160 is alot but i wanted a good one).

I noticed pretty much all of the people who complain about stuttering when changing gears (mainly 1st to 2nd) at high revs have pod filters. I used to have the problem pretty big, especially after replacing the turbo. I would shift into 2nd and it would feel like i hit something then it would start accelerating again.

So anyway, i replaced the pod with a fliter and now its totally fixed, can shift into 2nd as high as 7krpm and not even have a shudder. The noise is quieter than the pod, but you can still hear it, and its quite loud outside the car. Performance wise it seems about the same as the pod, but id expect its better as the air is probably 10-15 degrees cooler, and the flow is probably at the max the turbo can pull in anyway

Anyway, just thought that might help some one tossing up between pod and a filter;

$160 for a panel filter. It better be self cleaning threads of gold for that much.

meh, K&N panel filters are like $100 for commonwhores, and apexi are slightly more I believe.

factor in the cost of a CAI unit (say $200) and a pod (say apexi for $120) and therefore a $160 highflow top brand panel filter is half the cost..................................... :P

I already had a K&N pod on my RB25det, so I bought Maxx's cai box for $200 to help with the heatsoak and better cool air flow. Sounds like I coulda saved $40 !!!! hehehe

I found a K&N(panel) for $130 from Autobarn.....

have to wait til next weeks pay :P

too much IMO - K&N panel for a R33 IS the same size as a VR / VS Commodore.

sooooooooo - buy a VR Commodore K&N panel for $90 :)

Yeh, i got it from autobarn (where they know how much they can charge for anything branded "performance)

The K&N was $130, but i got a BMC one because the guy said they were better.. Dunno whether they were but they are much cooler (silicon outter edging), and the packaging claims that there made in italy and that the company has designed a few air filtration systems on f1's, which always sucks fools like me in :O

a enclosed pod would work better than a panel in a box, because of the higher flow, but no one makes boxes for a r32. But even then it could just be overkill depending on your turboes air needs. pod will flow higher out of a box but the air will be at least 10-15 degrees hotter, so a panel in a stock box would be better. They dont flow that bad anyway. + if you got the stutters it might fix it like it did to me (when i changed pod to panel)

I think UAS now sells a box for pods for 32 gtrs :)

Having only owned my car for a couple of weeks, i took gear 1 and 2 to 5000rpm and i felt something pulling me back at those rpm's when i accelerated quickly. Is this the stuttering people are referring to?

Car came with an apexi pod and hope this is the problem?

Thanks

Patrick :D

Nah whats being described happens as you change gears, i.e. you push 1st to 6krpm, put it into 2nd fast and as you slam your foot back down the car jerks around, then takes off.

What your describing could be a number of things but, when it happened to me, was my fuel pump

    • It only looks tidy, as most of the stuff that was on the whole back wall, is now in the trailer to go to the tip, or has been shoved in my 2.2x2.4m "Spare parts room", and now I can't get to anything in there Ha ha ha I could definitely do with a bit more space, but I'd just end up with your problems I'm going to enclose the car port beside the garage, and move a lot of stuff into it I think. OR... It will be setup as a fabrication area, and the main garage will have parts storage in it. I'm not sure yet... Need some pictures of that big shed you've got with the bikes and Skyline in
    • No. I think it's gone. 😭 I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.
    • Can't say I've had a bad experience with one on my car, then again it only gets washed once or twice a year... The wheels on the other hand, get a good spray often due to my shitty dusty pads.
    • @MBS206 thats pretty neat and tidy to me!  I'll get a photo of mine when I'm out there next. It might require multiple photos to understand the scale of the atrocities though... In total I have 4 sheds of varying sizes and layouts. Main shed is 14x8, second shed is 3x8, third shed is 11x2.5, fourth shed is around 6x4.  All are pretty much full.   The main goal of my cleaning tsunami is to make the main shed predominantly car and motorbikes only. Second shed is my metal fab room (2 x bench grinders, drill press, bench belt sander, metal band saw, scrap metal storage and some of my garden tools.  3rd shed is more bigger garden stuff, storage for engine crane, jack stands, concrete grinder, concrete mixer, air compressor lives there, and it now has two 2mx2m pallet racking shelves with itemised boxes holding building stuff, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, etc, etc.  The 4th shed is Ryobi electric ride on mower, mini boom sprayer, ancient Kubota tractor, more garden stuff!  I have got a lot of shit....  Then there's the pool house (8mx4m) and the pool pump shed (4mx4m).  I built all of the sheds over the 11 years we've been here.  The main shed was a Ranbuild kit, the rest are all custom made to fit the areas available. Building the main shed taught me a LOT as I had no idea about building anything prior to that!  I've still got one more in me. It will be my man cave which I poured the extra concrete for way back when I poured the concrete for the main shed. The idea is the Skyline will be a centre piece of the main cave once (if...) it's finished.  I told my now 14 year old son yesterday that I will 100% drive him to his year 10 formal in 2 years. Still a long way off but at least I now have a date to work towards! 🤣
