Good timing! I just ordered some.

Thule brand racks through Roof Carrier Systems here in Melb.

$295 for racks - $135 for extender kit to take my bike carrier.

Getting them fitted on Saturday - will take photos :)

I have towbar on my R33GTS25T, I had it custom made by Carasel at Moorebank. It was about $350 fitted and wired.

I pulled a car trailer to and from Melbourne without problems (1400kgs on way back) even though the bar is rated at 1000kgs.

I do have a slight contact between one exhaust bracket on LHS of muffler but have had time to have it reshaped. My taillightparkers no longer work on the combination switch but work from foglight switch, I suspect the additional load from the trailer lights may have fried the combination switch so relays may be need if you want to tow rather than carry a bike.

are you able to take the tow ball part off? i wouldn't want it there all the time...

have you got any pics?

  • 2 months later...

They look like they'd hurt the car :D

I was thinking about getting some for the trip down to the snows next month, but by the looks of those clamps, they aren't going anywhere NEAR my car...

OK - just under 3 months and I get my car back :D Yay!

Here are promised photos of Thule racks:

Just been to IKEA

Couldn't be bothered removing the bike carriers before loading up with a new desk and coffee table :)

Pads on roof are soft rubber, clamping arms are plastic-coated.

Racks and bike carriers all made by Thule.

Don't know what the hell is going on with my posts - but anyway...

Merli: The clamps are very soft plastic and grip onto the rubber part of the window surround. The pads are all rubber - their impact on the car was a MAJOR concern for me - but they are fine.

I need the car to be practical, so had to get something - but these are much softer and car-friendly than I thought :D
