Been meaning to do this post for a while... for under 20 grand, and to be P plate legal you can get:

Mitsubishi FTO (94 - 98) 2L V6 or 2L V6 Mivec, Auto (more common)/Manual

Prices from 11k to 16k

Pajero Convertible (1989-1999) V6 Petrol engine (diesel turbo not good for P's)

Prices from 12-16k

Most are scruffy, convertible tops are usually worn

300zx 2 seaters (1989-1998) coupe or convertible 3L V6 N/A auto/manual

Prices from 12k to 17k

N15 Pulsar (1995-2000) 3 door hatchback or 2 door coupe. Comes with an Autech tuned SR20DE that puts out 175hp, or an SR16VE. Auto/Manual.

Prices from 12k to 18k

Quite a cool car... these things with SR20's can keep up with a stock R32 GTSt. THey are however quite rare, so be prepared to wait a while to find one.

R33 GTS or GTS4 2 door coupe (sedan's are too heavy for SEVS eligibility). Auto/Manual, Series 1's are a lot more common than Series 2's.

Prices from 10k to 15k

R34 25GT or 25GTX Coupe or sedan, tiptronic/manual. 2.5L only (2.0L too pissweak to be eligible for SEVS)

Prices from 15k to 20k+

V35 250GT sedan, auto. 2.5L N/A VQ25DE.

Prices from 18k (average price 22k+). They're quite rare in the sub 20k however we've seen a few go at these prices at auctions, so if you want one you have to be actively bidding for one.

the 300GT are from 20k and higher (average price 25k+), 350GT are from 23k and higher (average price 32k+).

Toyota Celica Convertible (1989-1993) 2.0L n/a auto (manuals are rare as hens teeth), electric roof, optional leather

Prices from 11k to 16k

Basically just a shape update

Toyota Corolla 2 Door Coupe (Levin or Sprinter) AE101 (1991-1995), 4AGE 20V engine.

Prices from 10.5k to 15k

AE111 (1995 onwards)

The AE101 comes in a supercharged 4AGE 16V as well, but its not P plate friendly.

Toyota Chaser JZX100 Grande... 3L N/A 2JZ

11k to 15k

Toyota Prius 1.5L petrol/electric hybrid (97-2001)

12k - 14k

Toyota Soarer 3.0L N/A 2JZ, auto (manuals are very hard to find in this price bracket). (1993 onwards)

Prices from 11k to 16k

Toyota Supra SZ or SZ Aero-top (removable top, auto only) 3.0L N/A 2JZ

1993 - 1998 (the newer ones are usually more than 20k)

Prices Autos from 12k to 17k

Aero-tops from 16.5k to 20k plus

Manuals from 14k to 20k

Toyota Aristo 3.0Q (1991 to 1997) 3.0L N/A 2JZ Auto

Prices from 10k to 14k or less.

This is the older version Lexus GS300 that was sold in Australia. Easy way to get a pimp car on the cheap. (My old man's gettin a 2JZ twin turbo one in the near future if all goes to plan :wave:)

If you're in VIC, you can also get an R32 GTSt be under the power to weight restriction for P platers. You can't under NSW and QLD law from memory.

There are cheaper ones available, but the prices I've given are for good clean examples that you can import under SEVS with no hassles, ie, no accident history, no modifications etc.

I'll update this post in a while with some examples, pics n stuff from our website... and put it in a nice clean layout.

These are ones you can import directly from japan. the prices are to have the car landed and complied. Being SEVS imports you need to allow for a new set of tyres (and anything else which the workshop might need to comply the car) and registration on top.

Prices are cheapest at the auctions every day, if we buy em from dealerships and privately you'll have to expect to pay a little more.

and i came on here coz i love nissans, specifically skylines

in fact i took a ride in one of ur admins series II r33 and i loved it and my mate has a r32 gtst and i love it

the fact is that hondas are great first cars.....and 2nd and 3rd cars

a DC5R most definetly has potential to eat a r34 non turbo and it sure has the potential to beet gtst r32 and r33.....and vice versa

wat about all the civics, jazz?? a 99 civic coupe??

mate, id go for the rb25de r34, just for looks, but a car that heavy will be wayyyy better with the turbo, the DC2R and DC5R are very nimble and have plenty of kik, they would feel better and more fun to drive than the r34 gt

im taking all this advice in... making it very hard to decide wat to pick.. i definitky like power.. but i guess im leaning 60% show 40%go.. if you know wat i mean.. there no way im going to sacrifice looks for power...

Or drown in interest on the account for the next 10+ years and waste your youth. My advice is to buy a house when you can afford a house. Enjoy yourself until it's time to settle down (but don't do anything stupid..). Money isn't everything.

R34 sounds good. :wave: Don't waste money on trying to get the NA to perform though.

ever heard of investment property? Have a tennant live in it paying his mortgage with minimal repayments for himself to top off the monthly replayment.

why not find a really really clean example of a ae86 sprinter, then build a tough NA ie. put a 20v 4age in it then cams, microtec etc etc ull have a car thats NA and absolutely halls ass

remember they weigh 900kg.........

Only 1 problem with that. I think the laws state that there are no engine modifications allowed.

I guess this is why Australia is in so much debt. By 'afford a house' i mean things like maintenance and future repayments (security?), not necessarily having the whole amount sitting in your bank account.

Investment properties are fine, but it's a lot of money to be playing with and a big risk for a teenager.

lets just talk about cars here, there no chance im gonna be buying a house or any investment of any sort at the moment.. i want a car, for practicality and for a toy which ive been after for years. What am i going to do with an investment, buy sumthing get sumone to pay rent, ill still be in debt for about 10 or so years, the prime of my life.. until i actually start making money from it.. my parents own 3 investment properties, i can see from there experiences that yes, they did pay of, but there no way they could have done it without haveing a signficant amount of money to start with..no way u could do it of 20gz..

Calm down, that's because most Hondas aren't eligible for import, and the only ones that are... ie the civic coupe is well over the 20k budget limit of most P platers. They go for 30k plus, and even most Honda fans will agree that's too much to be paying for VTEC yo. I've only listed cars you can import, and have landed and complied for under 20K.

I love the honda's VTEC (yo) engines... its just the package that they come in (although one of my close mates runs OzHonda, so I can't bag em out too much :wave:). 4 Door Integra's are also eligible under SEVS, but no one can comply em, there's also the Honda Civic hybrid I keep hearing rumours about being available for import, but I'm yet to see SEVS eligibility and compliance being available.
my car is designed for fuel economy and look at the trouble i give to a r32 gtst and beat, on track of course, lol
If fuel economy's your game, then go the Toyota Prius, I did 15k to the litre in one I test drove. Plus its great fun cruising around carparks, as it runs on electric mode and is totally quiet. People can't even hear you coming.
lipstick and panty hose?? come on.....my 1.7L NON VTEC FWD N/A keeps my mates r32 gtst shifting at 4-5.5k and he can barely keep up, although heez raped me a few times, but ive pwnd him a plenty as well
As for keeping up/beating a relatively stock R32 GTSt, that's not an accomplishment. Hell, my 58 year old dad did that in our old mitsubishi cyborg (1.6L N/A MIVEC)... which coincidentally is also a great car for P platers, but unfortunately you can't import them any more.

There's ur answer right there....60% show, 40% go....R34 NA mate. I test drove one before I got my GTT, and they're not as bad as everyone thinks...good cruiser tht never fails to turn heads...lower it with a nice set of wheels and thts probably all you need...maybe a nice sounding exhaust and pod filter...don't waste too much $$ on modding an NA for more power it aint worth it unless ur swimming in $$$

^ agreed... skyline is my fav... about manual or auto , i was talking to my mate at KRT, asking wat he thinks about manual or tip tronic, he said go for the tip tronic, then he can easily do a shift kit for me, or a full manual valve body, which he reccons it alot better ..

well if i was to go a skyline it would be the r34, my fav shape, then for three years i can save and buy a full gtr set up?, rb26dett, breaks, gearbox..etc, plus my mate maen works a KRT Kahlil Race Transmitions, n he specialises in nissan race gearboxes and engines.. so im sure i can get some help there.. do you guys think this would be worth it?

buy an NA R34, put some rims, a kit, exhaust and a pod on it, then stop modifying it. Sell the R34, and then buy GTR. Don't waste your time trying to make it GTR spec, you can unload thousands of dollars into that GTS and it'll never be as good as a GTR (or even a GTt) as far as the "go" department is concerned. Nissan didn't spend millions of dollars developing the car for nothing, its easier and cheaper in the long run just getting a factory GTR... even if you have to downgrade to an R33 GTR (which you can get these days for 25k-ish)

That said, buying an R34 25GT or 25GTX isn't cheap, and not gonna leave you much change from 20k. If that's all you have to play with, then make sure you allow for insurance, yearly rego and running costs.

My advice, buy a Auto N/A Supra or Manual N/A R33... it'll give you about 5K to play with, and you can get a nice exhaust, some rims and a kit. Both are quite fun to drive, and have a lot of street cred still. THe R34 might be a bit out of budget, unless you're happy to keep it stock.

Yeah 1/4 mile in under 15 seconds is not slow for particularly for an NA 4 cyl. They handle and stop awesome too - they certainly aren't 'soft' by any means - quiterough riding and loud inside. A chrome wheel'd, cannon drain pipe droney fart exhaust base model Integra is a different story however... Type Rs aren't the same car and have a different purpose... they are far more purposeful than an NA Skyline. They reward a good steerer. They are a great fun car to drive and cheap on fuel, rev to buggery and Honda's are reliable. Would make a great daily and if you are lucky enough to have one as a first car you're doing well.

20gz is what ive got to play around with for just the car.. insurabce rego, etc, not to wory about , got more cash put aside for that already.
In that case go the R34. Although N/A Supra's still look awesome, handle like boats and don't go too fast, but at your age if you're driving a good lookin supra, you'll be pretty popular.

go for a r34 non turbo, it will be quick enough and they are slowly getting into the 17k bracket.

edit, just had to say dont go for the supra it will be alot older and sort of outdated, at first i liked the cockpit look of the interior but after being in my friends its somewhat tacky.

Get a manual unless your stuck in peak hour traffic all the time. In that case, for the love of god hit the tiptronic.
