I will be there Saturday and Sunday. I have always watched it on tv but now that I live here I will be going up to watch.

Its going to be huge this year. Heaps of people in town already. Saw all the team trucks parade down the main street today.

Tim.

We (SOSK and me) will be flying up Friday and flying back Sunday night.

Will be in the pits Fri, Sat and Sun

 cheers

Hey Gary, sorry was not able to catch up with you, but did not spot anyone with an SAU logo on. :(

Thought about wearing mine but may not have been healthy to do so with all those falcodoor fans around half cut up on the mountain. Lying in the campervan trying to go to sleep amongst the continual KER-THUMP of explosions close by was an experience not to be missed and probably similar to what it would have been like if I had made it to Vietnam with the RAAF in '69!

Was a great weekend except for the tragic crash that reminded us its still a sport not to be taken lightly.

Did buy a T-Shirt though,.. it says "HEMI"!!

My observations from the pits;

1. Farkin pace car, damn thing did more laps than most of the field.

2. Speaking of the field, what’s this crap of only starting 31 cars? What happened to 55 cars, now that was a decent sized field for a 6k track and 161 laps

3. Note to Avesco, it’s DAMN boring staring at an EMPTY track for minutes at time when there are only 16 cars running. Wake up you gooses some of us don't need that much beer drinking time.

4. Farkin pace car only comes out when CH10 needs an ad break

5. Watching a V8 SuperCar stagger down the pit road at 40 kph is as boring as bat shit. All the accidents in pit lane happen at less than walking pace, so a 40 kph limit is a STUPID waste of time, doesn’t actually achieve anything. Get real fools.

6. Speed limiting them to less than their idle speed in 1st gear is asking for trouble. With the 3.15 diff they run at Bathurst they don’t even idle at 40 kph. Note how many cars pulled out with engine misfires? That’s V8 speak for broken valve train.(don’t tell anyone).

7. Farkin pace car ruins a perfectly good race, just when it is getting interesting they call for intermission. It’s not the movies you know.

8. Can’t you idiot officials work out that the pace car is supposed to pick up the race leader. Anyone in front of the race leader is supposed to be let go around and join the tail of the field. Cost us 2 laps you wankers.

9. Children shouldn’t be let loose in a V8 SuperCar, no matter who their father is/was. If you can’t vote, you can’t race at Bathurst.

10. The pace car is for convenience use only, when the race is on the line and there are 3 laps left, they PARK the pace car. WHAT THE? What’s dangerous (and needs a pace car) at lap 100 is suddenly not so dangerous (and doesn’t need a pace car) at lap 159. Nicely avoided the embarrassment of finishing the race under pace conditions. VERY convenient you tools.

11. What this single file behind the pace car shit? We had 2 drivers with obvious signs of carbon monoxide poisoning from trundling around behind the pace car in single file for lap after lap. Smart move you idiots.

12. Did I mention the farkin pace car? The only good thing is, it means that the R32GTR race record will NEVER be broken.

:) cheers :D

The Saftycar 1000 was pretty shit this year.

Why can't they use double waved yellows like F1 (for cars in dangerios positions, and marsials not behind the walls)? Why can't they invest is getting a crane system to quicky remove dead stranded cars like F1(under double waved yellows)? And hand out peniltalys to people who don't back off though double waved yellows.

Not saying F1 is perfect, I just like how they rarly have saftycars.

Just my armchair racer ideas :P

    • I swear at my GKTech ones every time I have to take them apart and replace a spherical. But I wouldn't swap them for anything else. They absolutely slay every other option, at least in terms of how they actually work. You sure you don't want to live with bearings? I mean, they don't have "ball bearings". They are rod ends and sphericals throughout. Tough as nuts, even though I have found more than one way to wear them out.
    • From when I was looking at getting the 86 engineered for the turbo, the joint said to put in a few euro 5 or 6 cats, then tune the car on a nice clean E85 tune When I was looking at a turbo for the MX5, it was basically the same thing, a couple of cats and a nice clean tune Although, it will depend on the year of the Jeep IRT emmisions standards required, and what mods are done, especially if it has a newer engine installed that requires a higher Euro
    • Yeah - but it's not actually that easy. There are limits for HC, CO, NOx and particulates. Particulates shouldn't be a concern in any petrol engine unless trying to comply to the very latest Euro standard. But getting a tune right so that all the others stay within limits AT THE SAME TIME is not a trivial exercise. You couldn't possibly get it right by just guessing at the tuner's dyno, unless he had a 4 gas analyser up the pipe, which is not often the case these days. It used to be. Every decent shop that did "tune ups" (as opposed to tuning) would have a 4 gas analsyer. Perhaps there's still quite a few of them around these days. But most "tuners" are only watching O2 and power readings.
    • Slight segway but the most expensive part of the whole thing which I would have thought would only be required for an engine size/type swap, not a VIV test, is emissions testing.  That's when you get into the big bucks.  I can't remember the exact price now but I got quotes for the GT-R based on swapping to RB30 (not that anyone bothers doing it legally anymore...) and it was around $4500 just for that alone.  The guy that does them manipulates the tune on the vehicle to make sure it passes.  The cheaper option is to book into Kangan Batman Tafe (I think that's where it was) and hire their tester.  Allegedly you're not allowed in there with the car though so not in a position to tweak anything to make sure the vehicle passes.  I'm sure in this day and age of ultra tuneable ECU's you could get the tuner to program a special efficiency (clean) tune that emits the lowest amount of particulates possible that would pass the test.  It might only make 50kW's but as long as it passed who cares!
    • I'm sure he has left signs, or, he is looking down, laughing That's my cunning plan for when I leave, lots of half finished projects, with no rhyme or reason of where I was actually up to, just to keep everyone on their toes
