So for all those folk that complain about Calder, or Heathcote beign too far.

I have heard that a lot of land has been secured for the construction of a new drag strip to be located about 25kms out of the CBD down the freeway on the way to Geelong.

Kinda cool if you ask me. Be good to see soem Top Fuel action back in Vic

I hope Calder keeps kicking. If car enthusiasts keep supporting it then the long term plans Bob has for Calder...well it would be a great motorsport complex. Drag, circuit, oval, motorkhana and rally cross all in one place.

A dedicated up to date drag track that can take Top Fuel cars will be great though

Down with Bob if you ask me. Motorsport here in Vic has gained nothing from him in recent years... well... more than just recent.

$50 to race, $20 to spectate... and the track is of shocking quality aswell. Unrealistic track hire pricing aswell. It just farken STINKS

Look at Kwinana Plex, WSID, those facilities are truly amazing and is what we need here in Vic. You get what you pay for there, you dont even come close to getting your monies worth @ Calder.

In the 90's i grew up on the top fuellers, doorslammers, funny cars...

I even helped out with one of the top alcohol bikes from Pennzoil when it was in Vic (Party Time was the name of it) which was the first to crack a 7-sec pass on Aust soil.

I had such a love for that type of racing until it died out. I could hear it from where i lived on a still night.

The day it returns, i'll be there to feel the ground shake again and support it.

any info on precisely where the land has been secured troy?

I'm in hoppers crossing, and 25km from the CBD sounds pretty damn close to me :(

It will be in an area reasonably far from residential housing i would imagine... 2-3km at the least IMO if they are to have the big boys racing.

So think of an area around you that resembles that :)

Just to throw sand in the mix, they are resurfacing first hundred meteres or so of Calder in November...should make it a bit better to run..

oh and entry gone up to $65 not so good

"As of FRIDAY 6 OCTOBER 2006, the Friday night Legal Off Street Drag Racing Competitor Entry Fee will increase from $55 to $65.00."

Disagree Ash. Sure it has not had a lot of money spent on it. But Bob has had lots of money tied up in court cases, and still has a few ongoing.

He is still there, he for the first time is beginning to spend money on the place. (no matter how rich he is or isnt, a smart business man will phase the upgrades as the dollars come in) Has already ran som einteresting new events, geared much more towards the mug punter wanting to get involved in motorsport....not the big banger rich boys.

But getting back to the new track. I know where it is, i drive by it daily, just know know the name of the place

His court cases isnt my problem now is it? Vic has a major need for a decent track and has for almost a decade.

If he has a problem with maintaining the one he has, dont rip people off because he is the only one. That totally disgusts me.

And then... resurfacing the first 100m... why not do the whole thing?

But the sweetener there is to up pricing to $65 without even doing the whole farken track.

GET FARKED!. Im never racing @ Calder again, Bob can suck my knob for all i care.

As for a phase of upgrades? Come on Troy, its the same calder is been for nearly a decade. CRUD.

Holding "different" events isnt fixing up a facility thats been falling apart since the 90's but still been raking in copius amounts of money with little expenditure from the bare minimum

Wow. Good news. Now watch Bob Jane pump more $ into Calder.

Ok, my hot tip (based on nothing but this thread) is Laverton RAAF base.

It's right on the Fwy, 25kms from CBD & has been unused for prob 15yrs. Huge area, next to industrial zone.

    • Unless you have big cams, there is no reason for an RB to idle at any more than the stock 650. No, it is not 850, 950, or anything else. It is 650. In fact, it might even be 550. I just opened an arbitrary stock Neo file in Nistune, and this is what I see
    • I love the undertray, especially the flappy bit for easier access for serving I'm thinking of fabing up one at work for the MX5 while I still have access to the metal shop at work with a guillotine and press brake Whilst removing the plastic undertray on the MX5 isn't to hard, I love the idea of a 2 bolt flap as opposed to removing the whole thing
    • Great thank you for that. Yeah that is the bumper and spoiler it still has i just hadn't heard of it being referred to as a aero form bumper before. Really appreciate your help.
    • A little progress; I took the opportunity of an oil change to take a sample for oil analysis, will be interesting to see how it was treated for its first 125,000klm (I know how it has been treated since ) I went with 5w40 and will see what that does for oil pressure at higher revs. Also fitted the Z1 front undertray....a little more sturdy than the plastic factory one (although I suspect it won't stop a tree stump ) Nicest thing about it really is the 2 bolt "service panel"....a gift to the oil changer compared to removing 14 bolts holding the factory tray.
