Hey guys,

Okay picked up my car yesterday (YAY!), and went to a mates place to show him. Anyway he came for a drive to my other mates place... when we got there the door wouldn't open (had been fine all day).

It has an alarm, and central locking of course. But from the sounds I hear (the central locking works) however, the lock mechanism is broken, as the key won't unlock it either.

Only issue is... the door is closed and stuck locked. Does anybody know how I can get it open? I have managed to get the top of the door trim over and I can get a coat hanger in... however I don't quite know what to pull to unlock it... or if I can.

Any suggestions? Ideas? I'd rather not call a lock smith as I know I can do it myself. It's just a matter of knowing how :)

Thanks for any help guys,

Ben

yeh the same thing happened with my 32 what u have to do is spray the lock mechanism wid WD40 by spray it i meen soak the bastard then using the coat hanger in one hand and ur key in the other hand turn the key to unlock the door then push the lach thats attached to the key barell down not up the skylines have a push barrell so only experienced locksmiths can do it i got my mate (whos a locksmith) to come over it took him like 15 min to open it once u get it open then spray the mechanism from the side of the door like a mofo then it should be sweet. this is only a temp fix u'll have to get a new mechanism from nissan or a second hand good one from a wrecker. hope it works for ya

edit: to do this the door trim has to be pulled open so u can see the barrel and the mechanism

Bringing back my thread. The door lock actually has failed (can't open door at all).

I was told by a lock smith they would have to break the loop part that is attached to the body to open it.... I already have a locking mech to replace it and now I have to get a loop for the body.... This sucks.

I'll let you all know how it goes (prices, time, effort etc...). Not something I'm enjoying... I'd rather have a blow gearbox... at least I could just unbolt it :D

Cheers,

Ben

    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
    • Brumbys with good shells are bloody expensive, I've looked at 2 "cheaper" cars, and walked away from both,  plus after some research spare parts are fairly sparce I'm starting to think that I missed the boat on finding a clean one that is straight (ish) and without alot rust I'm starting to think about a old Hilux as panels and other parts are much more available as they sold tens of thousands of them I use to be indecisive but now I'm not sure

    • Picked up a new OEM boot seal for the MX5 today as the old one got ripped a bit by me being a idiot by seeing if I could fit a large metal tool box in it, it didn't fit, and ripped the seal with the corner of the tool box I am still waiting on time to get the cams and new balancer installed, as well as the repairs to the boot Time will not be an issue soon though
