Anyone using the MXL Dash??

http://www.aimrace.com.au/mxlinfoc.htm

I nearly did, but then I found out that Meridian Motorsport had gotten a shipment of these little beauties in, so I bought one instead. I already have the DL1 data logger so it works out well.

What does the dash and logger cost? How many inputs. I understand it uses GPS?

The dash cost me $1600, and I think that the loggers are around the same amount. (I got mine through other sources a couple of years ago)

The DL1 logger that I have has 7 analogue inputs (4 0-5v, 3 0-12v), 4 Frequency inputs, choice of either coil or ECU based RPM inputs, lat/long G forces, GPS track mapping, sector/lap times, GPS speed. There is also a DL2 data logger available that has a higher resolution GPS sensor (5 Hz vs. 20 Hz) twice the number of inputs and a few other features.

The dash unit will display any inputs being logged by the DL1 unit, as well as having it's own 4 0 -15v Analogue inputs, rpm/speed inputs, odo/trip meter plus inputs for indicators, lights and other warning lights.

Looks nice mate, have you put it in yet??

I was looking at the MXL's at meridian and was quite impressed. Pricey, but look like they do a nice job, and when you factor in selling off my current DEFI guages and not having to buy a lap timer/logger it doesn't work out ot be too bad... still painful though!

Troy, I saw the MXL Track which has everything needed for about $1800 US

Stephens is way better. But over twice the price of mine.

US$1800 is still a lot of coin. I find the MyChron3 Gold enough for me for less money. Doesnt look as good though...but the MyChron is more compact which is a big thing when it comes to installing the bastards

I've had the DL1 for a few years now, and I think that it was very much worth the expenditure. I'm in the process of installing the dash at the moment, and will have it running at DECA so I'll know more about it then, but so far it looks good.

Yeah, not cheap by any means...

Do you like the Mychron 3?? Does it have the ability to monitor temps etc??

Yeh, i have two identical sensors for air temp before the intercooler and at the trottle body wired up to one channel. That way i can switch between the two, though typically i leave it on inlet manifold temp. The oither channels i have wired up for oil temp, oil pressure and boost. On top of that you get lap timer, and the udual rpm, speed etc.

Its not as good as Stephens, but it is cheaper and does what i need it to do.

I didn't know it had the ability to monitor boost as well, that's great!

The way I see it is if I sell of my Defi link guages I'll make a fair bit of money back off of them, enough to warrant purchasing some sort of digi dash, just want to make sure that they can monitor everything I do now, which is Oil temp/pressure, water temp and boost.

I take it yours is similar to this, but the Gold instead of Extreme?

And can yours be hooked up to the battery rather than using internal batteries??

Yeh, wired up to the car's battery.

If you are really on the hunt, you can have a look at mine at DECA, then look at Stephens and see how much better his is. Maninly because it has 4 wheel speed sensors, mine only one so not so easy to detect wheelspin and brake lock ups etc. Plus things like sterring angle, brake line pressure etc

Thats for PalmOS, do you know of a PocketPC version?

I was looking for a PocketPC version when i found that. Unfortunately i never found anything useful for pocketpc.

I've been planning to write something for pocketpc but I'm too lazy. I'll let you know if i ever give it a try.

I'm biting the bullet and will order one of these puppies. Its a GPS based performance tool designed for cyclists. Have done a bit of research and apparently there are a few motorbikers using these with good results.

Can get them delivered for ~$260.00 :)

In the link below the jpegs show the data recorded, and you'll notice top speeds over 200km/h!. It registers laptimes down to 100ths but I'm sure there is interpolation involved. Over all it seems to offer a whole bunch of the drift box functions, including mapping, time and speed for specified distance, etc...

Anyone else tried these?

    • I'm seeing torque specs all over the place for the OUTER tie rod, but none for the INNER tie rod, where it connects to the steering rack. Even in videos, people are just tightening em up as much as they can with a wrench and that's it. Anything tightened down without torque makes me nervous. Anyone know what the spec is for it?
    • Hope you had a great time here in our tiny country.   The JDM scene we have here is quite small, it's mostly BMW, Volkswagen with burble tunes haha. But the few JDM cars we do have in the scene are pretty nice. Some of my friends drive cool s14's too. Both built engines, red one makes abt 500, blue one abt 400 i think?
    • Ye good idea , would have never thought of something like that. Might aswell do it to every pulley and the balancer while I’m there
    • Use an LS1 or similar, via kit like Frenchy's. But.... It's probably not the alternator. It sounds like belt squeal, which would be because the pulleys are glazed. Rub every groove on the pulleys with 120 grit paper. Report back. Oh, and new belts afterwards too. The old new ones will be shitted up already.
    • Hello all I have 2 r34 sedans , one turbo one na, only recently aquired the na 34.  Man what is with these things.... My turbo 34 started sounding like a super charger, it was screaming at anything above 4000rpm , I took the alternator apart and replaced the front bearing which is the only one I think you can access and it did not fix the issue so presumably the bearing in the rear of the alternator is gone. ( diagnosed it was the alternator by taking off the aux belts one by one to figure out which pulley or bearing it was )  My friend gave me one he had lying around, Installed it , it did not squeal for maybe 500kms and now its started to squeal again briefly on startup  Recently got an na r34 and I replaced the timing belt, water pump + all the auxillirary belts. Runs amazing but it suddenly developed the same squeaking problem but significantly worse, Ive had my neighbour come down screaming at me because it was waking her up everytime I moved the car. It takes a good 2 minutes before it quietens down.  Im yet to diagnose where its coming from but im fairly sure its coming from the alternator aswell. My question isnt about how to fix it but rather where can you get a new alternator for an rb25 neo??? Ive searched everywhere but I havent been able to find a direct fit oem type replacement thats not genuine. All the automotive stores sell an oex one - BXA035 - which I picked up for cheap through a friend with staff discount , got it home only to find the connector is completelty different.... As far as im aware bxa035 is for rb20/30's and after a bit of figuring out the bxa035 has an ev14 type connector, which is tiny compared to the rb25 connector. I actually had an ev14 connector lying around which I was considering just replacing the bigger plug with to get the alternator working but the bxa035 is rated for 70amp vs the rb25 alternators are 90amp ( or so ive been told ? ) That paired along with the fact im about to install an amp + sub in the back and I have the stock sized small battery Im not sure itll do the job unless anyone has another opinion?  I know and have seen all the websites selling the ls1 alternator conversion kit but I am not going down that route, nor do I have the money to. Hopefully I can figure out how to get 2 brand new alternators for both cars. I would buy second hand which there seems to be many of but considering how common this seems to be im sure If I installed a second hand one it would start squealing in no time  Or even better if anyone knows how to fix the issue directly with the alternator itself... Any input appreciated Thank you     Link for bxa035 connector picture
