Nissan Or Honda

Hey, i live in nsw. The new turbo law really shat on me hard core. So when i finaly get my license i wanted a r32 gts-t. I have a few questions. Is there a way around that law?

Also cause i cant get a turbo, i still wanted a nice looking car but when i wanna go fast if i can. Thats when i started looking into the vtech in honda's cause i would be able to use them, a properly turned vtech can run a 13-14's. Is a gts any fast? How does a vtech actualy work? gts or a honda vtech? (probably prelude or integra)

hmm, imo a non-turbo 32 is a waste of money.

personally i get a bit bored of the power in my 32gts-t wen i dont boost it. so i could imagine a gts would just suck.

im not sure if u can afford it, but a typr R teg would be the way. but im guessin u dont have that much cash...if not, get a vtir prelude. i owned a lude b4 my 32, it wasnt vtec, but it was a great car.

vtec basically works by changing the valve timing and crap so u get an extra kick of power at the top end of the rev range. so wen other cars are running outa juice, u prelude gets more go.

check out www.preludeaustralia.com if u got any more Q on preludes....cause im sure ull just get plenty of narrow minded nissan lover wankas on here who use the whole 'vtec yo' joke and bag the crap outa hondas.

No viable way around the law - you can say it's your only family car (and be able to prove it) but most of the time that is rejected.

Honda is a good choice - I would go for the Integra Type-R if you want to go fast.

All other lower spec Vtec Honda cars (eg Prelude/Civic/Integra VTI-R) will not be as quick, doing around 8 seconds in 0-100kmh

A Skyline GTS will be disappointing if you want to go fast.

Most people here would advise you to get a shitbox runaround car then when you get off your Ps, buy a turbo car (when you'll have the driving experience to handle it too).

32 line, yeah i see ure point. But i just love the shape of the r32. The type R looks very nice i was just looking around on car sales. Bit expensive but im sure dad would spend the extra. lol.

this time in 8 months QLD will have the same laws, but only applies to thjose getting their Ls/Ps after the date

Integra Type R is the go if you can afford it. Great cars. Non-turbo Skylines are nice, but not a purposeful, nor quick, as a Type R.

yep go the integra for sure...i would not bother with an NA import IMO the teggys with the right gear can go pretty good, they handle pretty damn good for fwd too

dont bother with the GTS, i imagine itll be too sluggish, but i spose im too used to my mates gts-t

seriously though, for NA and handling, honda is the best, for turbo nissan is the best

now that turbo is out of the question, get an integra type R, DC2r, they have plenty of potential and can even beat 32gtst and 33gtst if modified properly

if u can get a DC5R, go for it, u wont regret it, i can garantee that

lol, i got a 1.7L NA non vtec civic, lol, and i FKN love it, but i also f*kN love my mates 32gtst, haha

Here's a tip:

Seriously, why settle for something less? Get some banged up family car from the 80s or something to tide you over the law. Once you're of age, re-sell that car, and use your money to buy one with a turbo.

Sure, it may not be the coolest car in town, but you'll be the only person with a turbo car among all your friends after the time is up. You'll probably even be able to get your R32 GTS-T at a lower price after the depreciation (which means you can take that money saved and mod your R32!)

No offence, but I've also seen many near-misses by P platers when they try to go fast without the experience to handle the power. So, this is also a good time to earn some free brownie points from your parents by pretending to be a good driver ^_^

However, if you really can't wait, I seriously don't recommend Honda for their realiability issues. Have you considered the Toyota Celica or the Nissan Silvia S13?

Edit: The S13 is a drift car, by the way. If you ever want to learn how to drift, a non-turbo S13 is probably the starting point as it's easier to handle and more predictable than most drift cars (like the RX7 or S15). I'll seriously suggest that you go for lessons and not pick up drifting by yourself, having said that.

i disagree, they are one of the most reliable cars around.....they last forever

i know heeps of ppl who have had their hondaz forever, somthing like 10yr old eg and ek civics and no problems.....

My relative runs a taxi company, and from our experience, Honda cars are high maintenance and prone to mechanical failure as compared to Toyota. We're not talking about performance here, but realiability issues. Most cars are designed to have a lifespan of 10 years, but Honda ones tend to go down pretty quick after 7 years. I don't know why... cost efficient engineering?

haha, 10 years old is like ancient dude. I also have never heard of honda being unreliable.

I had a 99 SSS pulsar. Goes hard, looks ok. It's a Nissan.

Trust me, we didn't know Honda cars were so prone to failure until it was too late too. Drivetrain, transmission and engine issues were the more common ones.. you have no idea how much we spent to fix those darn gearboxes!

Soon after that, we changed the fleet to Toyota Corollas and Crowns with a few Nissan Cedrics, and stuck with Toyota ever since.

And yea, 10 years old is ancient ^_^

but i can tell u that honda has excellent reliability....just look on carsales, some 89model civics still goin strong...some over 300,000kmz

But peace, man. Each to his own. I got a friend who swears by his EG6 even though it's getting pretty old, and I have to admit, it's pretty darn fast and light.

My 33gts is a whole lot of fun!

But with any car.. if you drive it long enough you will get used to the power ( when you're driving ).. When someone else is driving it's like a whole new feeling.. good fun.

If you can afford a nice car on your P's go for it.. Because, it's most likely that you'll end up throwing your money around elsewhere.. where as you could have got reasonable re-sale on your decent car had you have bought one. Although if you can with-stand 3 years of no-turbo go for it.
