Hey all,

Ive found a R33 GTR that Im thinking of buying.

First off, how would i check it? What should i ask for? Is there a company that can check the car?

Has anyone done something like this before?

Secondly, transport, I dont wanto DRIVE it back, because its in Brisbane.

So, ive read that TNT do a good job, has any1 worked with these guys before from Perth, could you please comment

How much did this cost? Was it much hassle?

Thirdly, its Rego has expired, will that be a hassle getting it Rego'd here?

The car is completely stock.

Thankyou for your time as we need more 33GTR's in PERTH! haha :ninja:

Thanks!

do posts on the brissie section and find out whos a good panel/paint place and good workshop

1. organise with the dude and workshop to arrange a inspection of all mechanical things like turbos, motor, compression test, suspension etc etc

2. same asbove organise a panel/paint shop to inspect the car for paint defects, rust, accident history etc etc

i have too have heard that TNT is good and take excellent care of the car. ring up TNT or visit them in welshpool and see what their services and costs are with regards for the vehical

aslong as the cars been complied its good all you have to do is take the car to the local pits get it checked and your done new WA rego

i think you have to get the car re-rego'ed if buying from interstate like a changeover and take it over the pits anyway i think!!!

cheers

andrew

I bought my last 2 cars from interestate (i used to be from another state)

just get an RAC equivilant company to inspect the car and email you the report or if u want an extensive report like C-reds with compression test etc

then you'd have to call up a few well respected workshops to carry out an examation

you have to take it over pits to rego it in WA but if its stock its no dramas just $56.50 pit fee + rego (approx $500 for a year) and stamp duty (2.5% of cars value i believe?)

i used autotrans to transport my cars as they have insurance that covers the car while being transported so you dont have to buy insurance until it lands (i heard TNT is quite well too)

ask all the usual questions like reason for sale, when was the car imported, service history, any accident history, current faults mechanical/cosmetic etc etc

ps. dont fly over and check it yourself coz if its a lemon its outta your own pocket (did it once and never again)

Hey snatCh,

I did exactly the same thing with my 32 GTR... they are a lot cheaper in QLD and if you have a reliable mecahnic to check it out first and someone to be a third party with the funds, you are set!

I used a friends mates workshop who is a RAWS and they did a full inspection and compression test with a written report...paid with m/card over the phone and all sweet. Contact C.A.R.S. of Rocklea in QLD

I used Autotrans to transport her over... $1149.00 including insurance and a free car wash before pickup! Just have to be patient with these guys as you are dealing with seperate offices in QLD, SA and WA, and they aren't the best at comunicating with each other! Took 11 working days for mine to arrive.

Don't worry about the rego thing as you will have to take her ova the pits anyway and so registered/unregistered it makes no difference... just organise a temporary movement permit with the WA transport dept ($15.15 for 48 hours) when it arrives and you caan drive it to the pits, home or to a listed place of repair. Pits cost $56.50 and if you have to go over a second time like I did, another $35.00. Plates I think were $19.50 for standard. You will need to provide a proof of ownership... I dodged ine to reduce the stampduty fee's (sssshhhhh) so if you can get 2 copies of the ownership receipt, one with the actual cost on it and another with a lower amount to show the pits.

Doing this saved me heaps as I looked at another car at a yard with higher km's, in not as good condition and they obviously wouldn't do the dodgy (I mean helpful) 2nd copy of the ownership receipt... I fugure doing this, although took a little longer, it saved me $5000++... BUT... I would only recommend doing it if your are 200% satisfied with all reports and can wait for your car... DON'T DO IT if you are unhappy with ANYTHING and if you are the kind of person who can't wait, this may not be the ideal way for you to get your 33.

Best of luck mate :/

yup, it has to pass the pits to register it in wa anyway.

however its cheaper to license it over there. :)

It is a great way to save big $$$ if you can rego it intersate and then jst transfer it here, but you can only transfer a QLD car into your name if you have a QLD licence, proof of age card or a residence (prove it with a land rates/water rates bill, etc) so for most of us WA boys (& the ladies :/ ) this method isn't going to work for us... get the guy to sign a 2nd copy of the ownership receipt... most people won't care what value they put on it so long as you pay them the price you both agreed to for the car. This should save you close to what you would save if you had any of the above QLD I.D.

Further to the PM.

As per the other guys advice so far. Good workshop check, DMV check, have a good panel guy have a look to. Suggest post on SAU Qld for suggestions around where the car is located. The guys in Sydney were really helpful when I asked the same.

Just be very careful to make sure the VIN numbers, RAWS/SEVS numbers, paint colour etc are all legit and proper. If you bring a car over to the west and front for re-licence and they find annomalies - bye bye car. WA is really clamping down on rebirthing etc and they will not give second chances (impound) (refer the PM for background).

As for out of licence think about getting the guy to re-licence in Qld so at least when it gets to WA you won't have to get permits to move it about - especially if it may need some work to get over the pits. It is also not a bad check on the car in terms of roadworthiness, details, etc.

Good luck

i have used tnt on 3-4 occasions , excellent service . was about 1k from sydney last time i used them but has probably gone up now .

its a really great drive though if you do decide to do it . ive done syd/melb to perth about 6 times and its great . just dont drive at night and you wont hit any wildlife .

    • OK, that is a helpful description, because that sounds exactly like a bleeding issue in the clutch....these are hard to bleed manually even when the damping loop has been removed. I'd suggest bleeding again....start by filling the master cylinder up and opening the bleed nipple. Come back and check every now and then that the master cylinder is not empty. Let it gravity bleed for a few hours and see if that improves
    • I replaced the whole clutch line with the chase bays braided hose, I think it removes that loop, is it the short hose that comes immediately off the slave or is there a drawing in the manual to find what you’re referring to? It was just re-bled when I upgraded to the nismo slave, old slave worked fine but I thought that might help, didn’t change a thing. It’s like the first half of the pedal is pushing air and then when it finally actuates the master the friction zone is tiny. Makes it practically impossible to launch the car
    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
