They both make good quality paint. Depends on who is painting it & what they are used to using. Both have a couple of product lines, cheaper products for in & out quick smash repair work & higher quality lines.

It basically comes down to what the painter prefers, if you ask someone who uses Spies all day every day to lay on a different line of PPG colour & clear you can have some issues as they all have their own characteristics when spraying & drying.

Some people use this base coat & that clear, it works, but they are made by the paint companies to be used as a complete system of primer, colours & clears. If for some reason you have problems in the future from this, you have no comeback.

Preparation is as important though, it doesn't matter how good the paint is if what you are painting over isn't right.
