Got to love school holidays. Some young knobs have broken my 5.5yr record and tried to thieve my car. Immobilisers stopped them but they still made off with some stereo gear, my favourite Razo gearknob, and a money box containing about $25 in change. Also ripped out the centre console in the process.

But the bit that is really annoying is that they have destroyed the ignition/steering lock assembly, and after being quoted $370 for a genuine Nissan replacement, I need to pick the forum brains.

I know that the R32 assembly is thet same unit used in R31 Skylines/Pintaras, N13 Pulsars and Z31 300ZXs, but does the R33 (series 2) share assemblies with any other models?

My plan is to find a second hand assembly and have a locksmith rekey it to suit my current key, which should be significantly cheaper than the new part option.

So, can I use an assembly from another Nissan model, perhaps even a locally available model eg. Maxima?

Also, am I correct in assuming that the R33 GTSt and GTR share the same assembly?

Any other traps before I embark on this venture?

Cheers,

Z.

from what i can see, the r33 doesn't share it's ignitions with any other model except for the Series 1's and gtr's.

I don't see why there should be a difference in the r33 gtr ignitions to the r33 gts25t or r33 gts25 models, so yes you would be right in assuming that.

The only difference you have to watch for is whether the car you get the ignition from is auto or manual.

the auto doesn't have a pushbutton.

the manual has a pushbutton.

Buy one from a wrecker and get a locksmith to key it up to your key.

Price the complete job first to compare with the genuine part price.

Cheers :D

Also if you didn't want to genuine, you can buy aftermarket.

You can ask the locksmith to get you one in.

Its cheaper than genuine but it'll still be pretty exy.

I'd Quote $255-$270 for the ignition

& $35-$55 for keying up the ignition (depends how long it takes)

& $20-$30 for new keys if your keys are to worn to use.

You should be pretty right using any of those ignition cylinders/steering lock assembly's. They all take the same profile key and contain the same amount of wafers, so there shouldn't be any difference in the actual ign housing or ign cylinder. I can look into it more for you as im a 4th year apprentice locksmith.

Also i can hopefully source an afermarket ignition for you for around half the cost of the original item, but again i can look into it for you and get you the correct price for them.

Just off the top of my head, i think we sell the ignitions for around $80-$90 then $30 to rekey to suit your key. Dont hesitate to PM me if you need any more information

hey bud, i'm 4th year aswell, almost a tradey in a couple of months. did you go to brissy for tafe?

I looked up the ASP Catalogue for the price on the complete assembly --> steering lock, ignition switch and ignition cylinder.

Thanks guys,

To be on the safe side I think I'll find a manual GTSt wrecking and grab the assembly, then get it rekeyed to suit.

It's a pity there aren't more models out there using the same part number (even if the R32 unit is similar).

Cheers,

Z.

    • Ok gotcha, so one post to fpr  another to bov  and I have the mishimoto boost controller and a link g4+ so I’d just have the tuner set it up properly. For the last two from plenum post throttle to  ecu/ boost controller, I know that I have a hose coming from the ecu that I was confused about so I assume that’s what connect to the boost controller from the ecu? And then the last is just from plenum to boost controller then to wastegate?
    • From there, it was just a quick electrical check, prime the oil and start her up Which, is not what happened. 1. Bloody seppo Aeropro battery holder. Not only was it too tall for the battery (which I'll forgive them for, I have another battery the same nominal size that is taller than Neil's one, but the bracket is a fixed height so the battery was spaced up) But the thing that really shits me is the hardware to hold it on requires a 7/32 Hex key. WTF. No-one will ever be able to remove or install the damn thing without a hex key they don't own 2. Kill switch no longer worked once the console was installed. Neil mentioned above he had to adjust the length but it no longer cleared the console once installed. Sorted. 3. Suspiciously, the brake light holders were hanging in the boot with no globes. Sure enough the stopper on the brake pedal was missing so they are always on unless the kill switch is activated. Will pick one up tomorrow (turns out 32 and 33 don't use the same stopper) 4. All that sorted, I turned on the kill switch, turned the key to ACC. Nothing. Turned it to IGN. Nothing. Checked some fuses and found the main IGN in the boot was missing which improved things once it was replaced. Now ECU and dash lights turn on with IGN but still no fuel pump. 5. Turned it to Start....ECU on, no fuel pump, no starter. Plus the voltage dropped straight to 9v.  I suspect the starter is f**ked but am going to have to work through it all and see what is happening, really looks like more than one issue. Does anyone have the R33 fuse box key with the circuit it sources from (eg BAT, ACC, IGN, SRT etc) and supplies? I can find a translated list showing Amps and circuit without supply circuit, and I can find supply circuit without Amps and target circuit.
    • 3rd time lucky, the AAC is now all plumbed up after getting some final fittings All set up under the plenum of maximum access
    • OK, so the weight has been bugging because it was really low. I did it again today and got a more believable answer at 1246 without driver And with a 93kg driver I'm pretty sure the car was still slightly on the quickjack last time meaning the full weight was not on the scales
