I am about to rebuild an RB30 to replace the RB20DET in my R32GTST. I already have 500cc injectors, a Garrett 35/82R, adjustable cam gears, and wolf3D computer, intercooler, and exhaust. All these are coming of my RB20DET which has dropped a cylinder.

What I want to know is how much I can ecpect to pay to rebuild the RB30 I want to put in. What will I get for my dollars? Obviously I want something pretty strong, but it is still a streeter for now. Anyone have any ideas?

dude you are better off doing a search.

there are over a dozen threads about rebuilding it into an rb30det.

less than 250rwkw use stock bottom end rebuilt to nissan spec

over that use rods and forgies.

do a bit of a search it will help you

clean and hone of block, lynish crank and NDC mains and ACL big ends, decked - i payed $330

rings $150 -$200

MLS headgasket $250

plus labour for whoever rebuilds it if you dont do it yourself

thats using stock rods and pistons

Providing its built well they handle 300rwkw on stock bits perfectly fine.

There's one dude who runs on the same dyno as I that has precision hypereutectic pistons, stock rods, nice balance and making 373rwkw with a GT42. Behind the auto it makes all its boost by 4200rpm. It still run a SOHC head with 272duration cams and makes power to 6900rpm.

So the bottom ends are tough suckers.

Rev's is what kills them.. well any motor in fact. :P

60,000km later and my rb30det in stock condition is down to 120psi on third cyl

then u have to get a rb25 head cos the rb20 1 wont be compatable.

just wondering what exactly doesnt fit.. i have a spare rb20 head and i was thinking about chucking it on an rb30 bottom end, but i could find anything about the combo. everyone seems to be putting the non vct rb25de heads on them.

Some one on here was selling a complete running RB30DET with an RB20 head so I guess it's possible.

Its been done here in Adelaide before.

I believe the bloke made a thread on it. Froggy or someone..

The car was at boostworx but they had issues with the greedy emange so he took it else where; unsure if he ever got it running right.

You have to run the VL turbo pistons to achieve a reasonable comp as the combustion chamber of the 20t head is quite small. The calc as to what the compression would be is in the froggy thread thats in the sa section.
