Hey Guys,

Not sure if there is a thread already about this but it seems that Shell have changed their fuel structure.

Optimax is now "Shell V power"

Optimax Extreme has been superseeded by "V Power Racing"

Reading through the brochure and web site it seems that V power racing is an upgrade rather than a rebadging of extreme/ Claiming that V power has a minimum of 100 RON but avereages 101+. This is a claim that extreme never made so it interests me...

Upgrade from Shell Optimax Extreme to new Shell V-Power Racing

I filled up my first tank last night and will let you know how it go's. I oly have a stock ECU though without a knock reading so my feedback will only be impressions and stuff. I guess we can all wait and see if SK will take up the challenge and do his full test on it on our behalf :(:P What i do know is that Extreme is now gone or at least on its way out.

I filled up with this stuff last weekend; the attendant was full explaining the changeover to me as I'd never heard of it before and thought it was some dodgy rip-off susbstitute :(

After one track day; pleased to say it goes good! but that could've been because of the AfterBurner product that I put in :P

I love how they put in a low tax additive and charge us more for it.

Where did you get it Sam? I still haven't tried Extreme yet cos I haven't seen it at a servo I have been at.

Also, what a bunch of pansy arse, wanky featured, boyracer, bullshit names they have. It's enough to put you off buying it incase someone actually sees me filling up with it and starts laughing at me.

Interesting, i read the brochure and their material safety data sheets and it seems to me as a rebadging.

Also optimax extreme claimed a minimum of 100 RON rating, including 5% ethanol.

Marketing hype. Thats all.

Same thing as unleaded 98 changed to optimax.

i put it in my car the other day and it ran like shit.

It was probably your ecu playing with timing etc to adjust to the higher octane fuel. As far as I know 100ron fuel is common place in Japan and was probably used in alot of our cars prior to comeing to Australia anyway.

How is new Shell V-Power Racing different to Shell Optimax Extreme?
New Shell V-Power Racing with FMT is an improved product compared with Shell Optimax Extreme. It contains Shell’s new Friction Modification Technology (FMT) and is designed to reduce friction in the engine, improve engine performance and responsiveness, and give improved acceleration right from the first tank

Above is the quote from Shell website.

Adam, The Shell on Wicks Road in Ryde sells it. Also the Shell on Epping Road (near Macquarie sells it). And if your ever in the city, the shell at Taylor Square/Oxford St sell it

I've been on extreme for nearly a year. Sometimes I change back to BP and can definitly feel the difference. Looking forward to what V power can do......

Here's a link to the FAQ's

I dont sell why this fuel isnt cheaper than regular 98 octane????/

Its got 5% ethanol in it, which is a lot cheaper than petrol.. So really they are just ripping people off.

I have been using Boost98 from United petrol stations lately. Its 98 octane and it costs the same as regular 91 octance petrol, cause it had 10% ethanol. Thats the way it should be done, a good fuel for a cheaper price rather than a hyped-up fuel for a ridiculous price.

SK found along with a mag i read (hpi might of been..) that you really need a re-tune if you have a tuned ECU and are planning on changin to a fuel with etho in it, basically you can run more timing with the etho additive in it thus make more power across the rpm range however without the re-tune you'll make less power and the car will run more lean which is obviously horrible! lol

Anyone know if WA will ever get ANY 100 octane fuel.. :)

yup its good if you retune using that fuel....we use it in the race car and its better then any 98 octane fuel weve tried before it came out. Seriously who gives a shit about the name of the fuel...fuels fuel, they can call it whatever they want if its better then the low octane 'super lamo race fuel' ill use it regardless.

Hey Guys, I just filled a tank of Shell Optimax Extreme in my SII R33 and i only got a full exhaust... without even resetting the stock ECU i felt my car run 10 times better then BP ultimate and regular optimax.. not a single cough or stutter as others have stated... idle and acceleration feel much smoother...

Cheers,

Sarkis

I guess we can all wait and see if SK will take up the challenge and do his full test on it on our behalf

Already on the case, started tuning for the new brew last week on the way to the airport to catch the plane to Bathurst.

On that same subject, I have been retuning the PFC in the R33GTST after we did SOME headwork on it (porting, larger exhaust valves and combustion chamber polish). I can’t believe how much ignition advance I can now add, in some places I have advanced it 15 to 18 degrees from the default settings. It is using load points now that it simply could reach before, particularly around 3,000 to 4,000 rpm.

As for fuel tuning, I am now starting to run out of injector duration and it is still a bit leaner than I would prefer. Maybe time to fit the Nismo adj fuel pressure regulator and the GTR fuel pump.

What I have noticed while tuning with Optimax Extreme is that it misfires when the ignition is too retarded. It misfires when the ignition is too advanced. It misfires when it is too lean. It misfires when it is too rich. When you get the tune close, the misfiring stops and it goes GOOD.

Keeping the above in mind, any retuning for V Power should be obvious.

 cheers

Thats probably because your car was running rich due to the standard tune and the ethanol fuel helped to lean it out abit...which would make a car run better if it was running too rich...

hmmm possibly, how ever im running 8psi only and full exhaust... even on the dyno my car didnt make one puff of black smoke so i dun think its running rich... AFR was 10:1 from memory...

But you guys are right... its quite expensive

Unleaded: $1.10 per L

Optimax: $1.21 per L

Extreme: $1.36 per L

Cheers

    • The cam I am actually putting in (a few posts up) is actually smaller than my current one. At least duration/overlap wise. All the chop stuff I hear just sounds like an engine running badly, because it is. I then envision driving it around in 1st gear and being massively sad about it bucking to the beat of said chop. There is an idle video of someone with a similar cam floating around the internet, but mine is a custom cam (so is his) so it'll never be the same, plus the fact exhausts are entirely different. What I want to do is put some bullet mufflers/race mufflers in to replace a couple sections straight pipes that currently replace the two extra cats that I don't need. But this is even further down the line!
    • I can tell you now, when the bracket that the little hydraulic ram attaches to snaps, with a subframe, and V8 from an AMG C63 on it, it sounds like someone letting shotgun off right beside you. It leaves your ears ringing, and a huge thankfulness that you never ever put a body part under something heavy that's only supported by a hydraulic lift...
    • Still not a guarantee fix. I used a high quality butyl-mastiq (the black goo that's not really silicone nor polyurethane, same stuff they use from the factory that just spreads out like melty cheese), and I still get lots of water on both sides of the trunk when raining or washing the car. I also suspect the factory spoiler rubber gasket might not be sealing well, so I'm thinking of adding a thin layer of grey silicone around the bolt holes on both sides and see if that's where it also leaks from. The biggest issue is that these cars don't come with a drain hole on each side like other coupes and hatchbacks.
    • I hate it, but maybe he could paint it Monster jam style and call it...godzilla?
    • Would seem to me to be appropriate to go GTR style bar. There are options with and without N1 vent holes, with the GTR lower lip integral (because FG copy). https://justjap.com/search?q=r32 bumper
