Ok i have just had a ride in an R33 GTS-T and to be quite honest i am dissapointed. My mates SR20DET S13 Silvia with a cat back exhaust felt much quicker. Now i was aiming for an R33 GTS-T Series 2, but after the ride in the stock standard GTS-T my mind may have been changed. I am now thinking of an SR20DET 180sx type - x or a Pulsar GTi-R. Althought the skyline had a much better interior and more supportive seats, thats the only plus i can see of getting a skyline. What do you guys reckon would be the long term better buy???

What have you guys got your skylines upto with simple mods?? Would it be a much better longterm choice to get the skyline since it is of a higher build quality??? Just need a little help in deciding???

Weetbix,

I drove a stock standard R33 GTS-t last week, and I must say it

wasn't anything special. I was very supprised on how much power it lacked actually.

But it's in comparison to mine which has a few mods like pod, CAI, turbo back 3 inch, bleed at 12psi, FMIC, clutch etc...

I think what's I'm trying to say is that they respond very good to simple mods like an exhaust and a bleed valve.

If we ever meet up I'll take you for a spin (I'm in Canberra too) and you'll be able to compare.

Cheers

J

I don't think R33 are prone to "fishtailing", but when i dump the clutch at anything over 4K the ass end always kicks to the left. This is predictable, and anyone who knows their car can controll this and keep it staight.

The other night i had a P plater in a integra type R trying to show off in front of me. He booted it, so i followed, but when he turned off the car was in a fishtail and kissed the curb. I too turned off (on the way home) but once i saw that he couldn't drive for 5h1t, i backed off and gave him plenty of room.

HOW THE FARQ CAN SOMEONE FISHTAIL A FWD CAR IN THE DRY!!

I was hoping thats what everyone would say.....the skyline being quicker that is. So i think im going to stick with getting my R33GTS-T SII when the time comes.

Jay95R33 - I'll take you up on that offer if we meet up at some time. Which side of canberra you on?? Cause I'm on North side and dont see many silver R33's up here. I did however see one a while ago which had an SDU sticker on the back, was that you by any chance???

and

Duncan - I'll keep my eye out for the next track day you guys have. I've been to a couple of them at wakefield, some of the people here were prob there.

Cheers

Skyline R33 gts-t definitely isn't slow... quicker than most things on the roads you're likely to come across. Just needs a few mods and you can get it to around 160 - 190rwkw (approx 230kw fly in case your wondering). Now considering around 230kw in "spec" talk in a ~1350kg car is faster than most things that comes out of the factory short of 100k. And all those clubsports and things, aren't running a "real" 250kw either - race one and you'll see :D

Like a few people have already said, smaller cars and 4cylinders can often seem faster than they actually are because they are screaming for the power.. the skyline its pretty effortless.

Yepp, no worries dude. I'm a southsider but Civic isn't too far away :D Let me know if you want to go for a quick spin before you buy one just so you can see what they can do with simple mods.

Might not have been me cause I've still got my SDU sticker on the back (jay runs and hides....) :)

I would go the Skyline unless funds are going to be tight. For the same amount of money spent (including purchase of the car plus some mods) the 180/200sx is probably going to be a tad faster. Don't forget they've got a 100kg+ weight advantage too!

But if you want a "nicer" more refined car with more potential, then stick with the 'line.
