The R33 gtst can get mid 13's if you spend about $2K on top of.

The 180sx can go a tad quicker for the same $.

Skyline is a good cruiser and it will cost you more than a 180sx to realise it's full potential. You have a factory 2.5L six that delivers excellent fuel ecconomy and has the protential to run larger turbo's without the same degree of lag.

It comes down to horses for courses.

Weetbix is correct. I have just purchased an R33 GTS-t, and I also own a 2L turbo Silvia. The Silvia is much quicker than the Skyline. I must admit at being quite dissapointed at the Skyline's performance. Dont get me wrong, overall the R33 Skyline is a great car and it is the best Skyline I have owned to date. (I previously owned an R31 and it was the worst car I ever owned - not including the EH Holden I had in 1970. That includes the C210 which I had for 13 years. It was a really great car and the only reason I sold it was that it finally wore out. Having owned Datsuns/Nissans all my life, including 6 1600's, I was very disappointed with my R31. The best part of the R31 is the engine, the rest of the car just does not measure up.) Anyway I suspect my new R33 may need a tune-up, or perhaps something else could be wrong. It goes very strong in 1st and second but thats where it seems to slow up when compared to the Silvia. Maybe I am fussy but I did expect the R33 to go better than the Silvia. Perhaps I need to go for some the hot bits I see on the Forum. Anyway cheers to all the other Skyline owners. This is a really great site.

Had a race and i kicked him by 10 cars...

Just because they feel powerfull doesnt mean they are.. Skylines are heavier and dont feel like your going.. Line them up together..

33's are much better to drive in anyway..

Exactly guilt-toy, any high revving 4 cylinder always seems a lot faster than it really is.. and if the driver sits lower to the ground that feeling is amplified. To some people that is a good thing, as it just "feels" fast and don't actually care too much whether it is or not.

Some Silvia's of course can go very hard with a few mods though because of the weight advantage.

I like the effortless power of the 'line though

Now let me tell ya about my little gem that's now sitting in at the repairers after a lovely little fishtail in the wet the other week...

3" exhaust, bigger turbo, bigger injectors, Apexi Power FC ECU, Apexi BOV, Apexi boost controller, sports clutch and a bigger HKS intercooler kit.

All that on a 2.5ltr GTS-T series 2 and the kind dyno man gave it a 230.6kw rating at the wheels (1.1bar 6400rpm).

Previous owner told me that it was really fun in the wet!

Uh huh!

Boost set down to .5 bar and it still let loose at the rear in the wet. By the time I had the foot off the accellerator the rear had gone 45 degrees out to the left and I found myself going straight into a concrete barrier in a split second.

Airbags must be packed with a Chinese firecracker as the thing was full of smoke and I couldn't see a god damn thing as the car went into a spin after the impact.

So is the car totalled?...find out tomorrow after the assessor has finished testing the framework for faults.

So to answer anyone's doubts about whether the GTS-T is powerful....with the right mods it sure is but at the risk of turning it into the car of death. Every week I travel 720km to commute to work and back so the risks of something going wrong are higher. I love driving it but the power can be a little unpredictable at times. I'm sure the grey hairs I've accumulated over the last few months are because of this car. I looked at a traction control kit but that requires a car with ABS. Guess who doesn't have ABS?

Now if it had four wheel drive...hang on, that's a GT-R...hang on I don't have a spare $45k+ lying around!

I know guys...I should be a better driver! Time to go on one of those wet road training courses or something?

at the moment i can only comment on what it was like to go from a 1.8 litre silvia turbo, into a r33 gts-t. The silvia was fast when on boost, but when off had nothing. I found the r33's have heaps torque compared to the 1.8.

When i am finished putting the rb25det in the silvia, i think it will feel a lot quicker than both. I have never been in one, but i am dieing to get it going.

what i been told is that the car after the conversion just love wheelspin. So light in the arse end, and with more torque, and bigger hp is just a handfull to drive.

but i shell know when i get it going.

But i actually like r33's more for there ride too, smooth, handles well, etc. i think my car now weighs in at around 1300 kg's so i been told. and distribution has switched from 48 % at front to 52 % at back, too 52 % at front to 48 % at back.

anyways, i'd go the r33 if i had another chance. more potential, plus easy to mod.

Find out today if the car is to be written off. If so I'll get the insurer to list the mods that they picked up on and remove the bits that they didn't know about with the originals before they salvage it. With a bit of luck I should be able to retrieve the Apexi electronic gear as it's worth a bundle.

Problem with it being under a lease that is only just half way into the 2 year lease period is that there is still a large amount owing (didn't help that E**** had to fork out $5300 to replace the engine not long ago so that's been slapped onto it.). John P. at UAS seems to think the market/selling price should be around $34k with all the mods but no doubt the insurance company has their own opinions about that. Either way I know I'm going to have to pay something towards paying off the lease if it is written off.

Personally I think the car is fixable so I'll be interested to hear the reasons why they need to write it off (if they do).

Well, the car is offically a write off.

I have a few things recovered from the car but not the all important Apexi gear...insurance company was keen to keep that stuff to maximise their salvage. I'm actually keen to see what the salvage company wants at auction for the wreck. Wonder if I could afford to buy it and fix it up over time back to it's original state?

Anyhow here are the pix...before shot on this post, after on the next.

have a very new Recaro Sports seat with electric hight adjust for the drivers side that is ready to go straight into an R33 GTS-T (series 2?)if anyone wants one? New black Nismo gear knob? Original Nissan GTR rear badge? Red MOMO peddle covers (manual)? 4 months old front strut brace?

I think compared to usual stock street cars a gtst skyline is relatively quick but considerrably laggy cause of weight. Mine is stock with pos and turbo back exhaust. I am considering getting a computer, cooler, and boosting it but i dont want to wreck the car. I keep getting told that when boosting a car u dramatically decrease the life of your engine and in some cases totally stuff it up (lean out). what u guys think? who has run high boost on stock internals and how long did your engine last?

In the wet, you ALWAYS have to be careful!

One night i was at a mates house and i just dicovered my clutch was f@rked. I had rained 2 hrs earlier b4 leaving his joint to go home. Decided to take it easy, came to a big round about, near my house, put the car in third and drove around it. No traction loss coming out of the intersection, but in the straight, 80km/h zone, the ass end kicked out unexpected. As i was in cruise mode (mental state) i 5hit myself, then corrected the car. Surpised at what had happened, i slowed back to 40, kept it in 3rd and did it again for fun :P!

Sorry to say but the insurance company won't let me touch anything else.

Also, it seemed they had already pulled off the cover for the ECU on the passenger side so they now know full well it has the Apexi FC.

Not too concerned as the insurance company are looking at a market price of 34k + 15% of that toward paying out the lease so I walk away reasonably clear of debts. Even better if I get something for the gear I did retrieved.

    • UPDATE: Hi all!  As we are getting towards the end of this thread where I’ll showcase final dyno numbers and graph, I wanted to provide an update. Tao from HyperGear has done an amazing job building the custom divided T3 housing for the G30. Communication was flawless, price was great, and now the housing is estimated to arrive in 7-10 days! Very very pleased. I must add, if someone is looking for an affordable turbo and end up reading this thread, I would recommend HyperGear. Genuine brands are the way to go as their proven reliability, predictable performance, and there’s a plethora of information available for specs, flow, and more. This HyperGear recommendation is based on their excellent communication, dedication, and willingness to listen to their customers. I particularly liked their ability to create custom adaptations tailored to specific needs, which is a HUGE benefit over other brands. And if we consider the HyperGear provided dyno results, it adds reassurance knowing their turbos can compete against genuine brands. Next update will be after the dyno!
