i have a r32 gtst rb20 i have tomie cams 260 with 8.7lift just wondering if any one has put these in there car before and if they fit in with out needing to change the valve springs thanks

Waste of time changing the cams without replacing the valve springs. you will not get the full potential out of your cams. wont be able to rev it any harder which makes the operation pointless. Also the increase in lift might cause the old springs to fail.

This is the first post of yours I've ever questioned.

You don't have to rev it any harder to get more power out of it just because or in spite of having cams. They should increase your power or at the very least give you the same power at less boost at the same revs.

Strangely on the RB20 Tomei recommend you change springs for the type b poncams (what cohen has) but not for the type a poncams which I find bizarre because they have the same lift but different duration. I would have thought that the longer duration would give a slower ramp rate at the same lift and therefore less stress on the springs.

I agree bob, however the longer duration cams may have a faster ramp rate. However for the cost of a set of springs, i would fit them rather than risk the damage that could occur. do gtr springs fit?

Well I take some of that back.

The poncams appear to be 256 and 8.5 and the procams are 256 and 8.5 or 260 and 8.8 or 270 and 8.8.

So what cams do you actually have?

What sort of increase in power would I expect from just changing to poncams?

I am looking for some extra power...someone suggested poncams. Can anyone link me to a thread that has discussed it?

Power increase will depend on other factors like turbo etc probably wont gain much if your still running the stock turbo.

Yeah only worth it with bigger turbos.

Cohen, the rule of Tomei is as stated above:

Poncams...direct fit no spring change

Procams....spring change.

But... I don't see there being a massive problem with the difference between the poncam and the smallest procam that you have. Depending on costs, I would give it a go.
