When I answered the 100 Qs thread, i replyed on a Q that there wasnt any thing wrong with my car, but there was technically, the sunroof gap.

It always annoyed me that it wasnt flush when closed, and apart from that, when it rained, water would pour through the corners and leave that wet smell, even though it drained properly.

After some inspiration from an earlier thread, I learned how to get to seat of the problem was by packing the glass, I always thought the guide stop points just needed adjustment but I could never find a How to.

The first step is to remove a clip stud, this has a screw part, that you remove first then the stud.

With the sunroof up, you then pull the cover off, this has 4 locators as indicated, the inner prongs come first, then the whole thing pulls out of the other 2.

When that is done you can see the 3 (M10 spanner) nuts that are either removed or loosened enough to get the packers in and out, if I had known I would of left them in because the forward one is a biatch to get out/in.

Then it's was a matter of figuring the thickness for the packers to insert to make it flush, this was acheived with some rubber and plastic packers that I cut to shape and played abit with each corner untill I was happy.

To end up with the this result

I noticed while doing this that rest position for up/down is different to the forward/back spot, not by much but enough to warrant more adjustments, this difference I put down to the sealing effect of the rubber and slight wear in the whole mechanism, which I'm not too worried about as it works good and doesnt seem like breaking. I should add that the glass will be able to be removed when all 6 of those nuts are taken off.

Interesting thread - good pics.

I have a problem where my sunroof can rattle. It looks flush etc but frm the inside when you push up on the sunroof it can move up and own about 4-5mm which I think causes the squeeking.

Any ideas on this Terry - you seem to be the sunroof specialist

That movement is what I had to readjust for, I just make sure I close forward even after down, that way seals best, most sunroofs seem to have this movent when they dual postional.

THATS FUNNY-MY 96 R33 GTS-T 4 DOOR SUNROOF HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!!! I FIXED IT BY CAREFULLY BENDING BOTH SIDE TRACKS UP. I DID IT BY LYING ON THE BACK SEAT & USED MY LEGS & FEET TO PUSH UPWARDS ON EACH SIDE TRACK AT THE MOUNT POINTS WHERE ITS WELDED TO THE ROOF FRAME. I GOT ABOUT 20MIL UP MOVEMENT. WHICH WAS ENOUGH TO MAKE THE SEALS WATERTIGHT. I WONDER WHY THEY ARE LIKE THAT???????

hey R33S2 i don't suppose you could post the pictures again - i have a bit of rust around the edge of my sunroof i want to sand back and need to remove the sunroof. if not - i'll just read carefully

hey is that around the edge on the underside?

If so i can GARENTEE you that where the letal frame meets the glass on the outside of the car, the seal in there is leaking. I had this EXACT problem and i was trying to figure out how it was leaking, it goes between the glass and metal runs into the underside out of the rust spots between the metal and the rubber seal, to fix it need to run some silicone at the join on the outside (where glass and metal join)

Thanks for the pics.

Can someone tell me how to remove the sunroof if it is stuck open?

It gets jammed half way when closing.
