Had my first proper run last night against of all things, my arch nemesis - the fabled SS Commodore (VX - manual).

The main road out of Gosford that takes you across the bridge (where i drove alongside him), up the hill and onto the F3, was the location.

After G-ing this sucker up (after he overtook me like a hero in the burbs a few kms prior), he responded at the bottom of the hill, by dropping back to second and flooring it. My intercooler piping only just fixed hours prior, my car was running sweeter than ever, i left it in 3rd (my only mods, FMIC, 3.5inch cat back, pod) and floored it. It was on... through the twists the idiot kept pushing me wide almost at times into the rockface and concrete barriers on the right, so i backed knowing i could get a good run out of the corners - and that i did.

It was close all the way - sometimes his mighty 460Nm was just enuf to pull ahead - but keeping in mind i never changed down below 3rd when he dropped to 2nd numerous times - i was all over him. I had my time in the lead but then would back off cos we were up around 140-160km/h and if the cops spotted me id be gone....

Anyway after 3-4mins of flat chat driving we reached the traffic lights at the top. So i put the window down to acknowledge him for the good race (Dragging Etiquitte: Chapter 52, Section 12A), he does the same only to abuse me with the following:

"That's a f@cken piece of sh$t. Ill f@cking run you everytime you f@ck. F@ck you....." and on it went.... real intelligent stuff.

But how's that eh? Any other driver would acknowledge that it was a well fought race, but not Holden drivers... What is it with them? So arrogant.... and for him to call my 'line a pisa is not on. Personal insults arent cool, im sure you'd all agree. Anyway he turned off after doing a quick burnout.... cool stuff.......

Im sure this guy just couldnt handle getting chopped by something with:

Around 25Kw less power

3.7Litres less capacity

around 200Nm in stock form less torque

and down 2 cylinders....

Has anyone else come across Holden drivers with this "my sh$t dont stink attitude"?

i could be wrong, but your plates might have made him on the wrong side of you from the start...

and as much as i know this sort of stuff happens, i think its a case of the bad ones make it worse for the whole lot(talking about commodore drivers)...

there are just dickheads out there, and they drive every sort of car.

Nice plates :D

I have mates with HSV's that cant chop my 33... They just resort to calling it a piece of jap crap or some shit like that. Even my uncle calls it a piece of jap crap and he drives a nissan patrol.... Makes you wonder how smart these kind of people are??.

I was on my way home after purchasing my Speedmeter x at Castle Hill. As I turned into Old Windsor Rd (80 kph limit) from Norwest Blvd I kept myself on the left (slow) lane. There was this brand new SS ute from behind on the right lane doing about a hundred. He lined me up then did a couple of hard revs (I think he wanted to scare me). I laughed and went behind him straight away. Shifted to 2nd and floored it (now it's my turn to do the intimidating). As expected, these cowering assholes beeming with ignorant pride in their agricultural pseudo performance tyre-wearers are usually the ones who get scared in the end. I remembered this article in the current Wheels magazine about major pinging and oil consumption problems with the BIG MIGHTY GEN III 5.7. At the set of lights, I enthusiastically complimented him for having such a grunty sports car. Although I could never forget the look of embarrasment in his face when I pointed out that there was a trail of black motor oil from behind the big V8.

MWAHHAHHAHAA!! I'm going crazy!

I had a Clubsport R8 driver do a similar thing to me the other day except I didn't even race him. I saw him come roaring up behind me doing the usual wanker tail gate thing. I was just doing the posted 60kph. Came up to a set of lights where he pulled out beside me. I was thinking to myself "Here we go". I keep my racing activities to the track, so when the light changed I just left normally and he proceeded to speed up the road. Then he started to waive as if he had just whipped me by four car lengths up to 60! What planet is this dude from. When I got up beside him I wound the window down where he proceeded to laugh out loud. What a Dickhead. When I told him that I didn't even start he was silent for about 5 sec then started to laugh again. What's the brain capacity? Times like that I think I should brake my restraint but really, whats the point. He did make the choice of owning a car that costs over twice as much as my skyline and has less performance pedigree. That says it all really!

They're not all dickheads. I've had a few good runs with HSVs, both in the car and on the bike, and every time they've waved or smiled, had a chat or whatever.

I had a run with a Clubby R8 one time, and it was quite a close race. He got me at the start (rolling start, NA will always have the response) and we were basically side by side the whole time. I pipped him by maybe half a car length before I hit the limiter. Result: Thumbs up from both of us and a few compliments when we met later.

I also had a play with a 300kW Monaro on the bike while heading up a mountain a couple of months ago. It was close in the corners (cos I'm a wuss :P ) but I flogged him on the straights and under brakes. Result: A big smile, a wave, and a nice little drift when he turned off at the top of the hill, sweet :)

Actually, while I'm thinking of it, does anyone know of a really quick black R32 GTR in SE Qld? My brother was riding my bike on the highway and the GTR decided he wanted a play, so off they went. By the top of second there was maybe a car length or two in it - the bike won, but not by much! At a guess it was somewhere in the 11s, and it was shooting flames out the exhaust and everything :( I dunno who owns it, but he was an asian guy and apparently gave a wave and a smile when he pulled off.

I gotta admit, these commodore drivers are big d!@#heads sometimes, I mean do they really stand a chance against the GODZILLA!!!

I've lost count how many times I'm just cruising minding my own business when some w#$nker in his commodore speeds up next to me, taking a look then doing the accelerate brake accelerate brake thingy.. Usually I just drive on thinking why bother, unless they are persistent and really piss me off. Even then I don't really run them anyway unless we pull up at a set of lights, where I launch it hard and watch them playing catch up in my rear view mirror...... (Actually happened last night against a VX Clubsport R8 and then a VY SS)

Bloody d!@#heads if you ask me.........

hehe ive beating a white 185I commodore. it was a v8. and very very slow. i think its only 185kw at the engine.

also last friday this black ss ute wanted a race, he was reving it at the lights next to me then he nodded his head so i thought yeah ill go him. lights go green i paused, then i herd his wheels start spinning so i droped the clutch and totally lost traction, slammed 2nd then went ill about 80, i was about 3-4 car lengths ahead, and ive steped on the brakes. he back off also, then he foors it making a nice v8 noise hehe. goes infront and around the round about.

i felt good knowing i beat a car with more then twice the value of mine. ( only running 7psi at the time due to backfiring)

some commy drives need to ge out of their nutshell. i usedto drive a commodore, and some of the ppl that drive em are jsut wankers.

I think that it is really a case of.

"Is the glass empty or is it half full"

The people who are total d##kheads in their commodores and the un-educated ones. Meaning that they generally dont understand the amounts of technology that goes into the Skylines, Supras, Soarers, 200SX, 300ZX etc, to lower the power to weight ratio of the cars.

They only think that a Big Block V8 Is the only way to go. Although if you put some technology onto the V8's you can some pretty decent power figures.

So this group of people think that their car rules the road just because the note of the engine makes everyone think that the world is coming to an end. and they are probably so insecure about getting whipped by car that is probably half to a third lighter and down by at least 2 cylinders.

----

At the other end, you have the drivers that know what they are up against, know what they have, know what the other car has and only has a bit of fun and acknowledges the other driver with a wave, smile, thumbs up.

They dont get shi!!y cause they beat them, because at the end of the day the better car won.

Speaking from personal experience (since I'm a newly converted Commodore driver) they buy the commodore cause they like it and because it has a bit of punch. and they are mature enough to see that there is something better on the road than their Commodore.

----

These Bogan idiots drive Holden's cause they are substituting for their lack in other areas. :D

The people who TRULY appreciate the motoring experience and respect their car for what it is will be the one that will give you a thumbs up after a spirited session from the Traffic lights.

---

I'm Kent Brockman, and that was my two cents.

I still wouldn't write all commodores off. I've seen a fair few SSs with >200rwkw and they are certainly not slow. These are pulling 1/4s in the low 13s.

MotoX - the 300kw Commodores generally get around 215rwkw+, so they can put up a fair fight against a tuned up Skyline.

The Problem is.... they are just TOO damm heavy.... go for the HRT427, they've shaved about 2-300Kg's of the standard weight.

Mind you, it is fully race prepped and costs about the same amount for a small south pacific country.

One thing to look out for would be the new V6 engine going into the 'dores next year. 3.8L DOHC Variable Cam Phasing with Electronic Throttle control. Plus All Alloy so it's about 20% lighter than the current one.

Do some tweaking with the Supercharged version or whack on a Nice Garrett Turbo then there may be some competition out there.

------

It's not the car, it's the Drivers, they are un-educated, bogan, slack-jawed yokels that wouldn't know the difference between a Cam Shaft or a push-rod.

I reckon the HFV6 will be a sweet engine. Apparently it's going to come with around 200kw NA. That's well and truly over what the old 5L V8s had.

The turbo'd version would be nice, but I don't think we'll get that here. The engine is being used by a few other manufacturers and they'll most likely have that as an option, but I can't see Holden doing it. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

My biggest problems are with V6 Commodore Executives rather than V8's! (although there is the occasional V8 that wants a go). Utes also seem to have more idiots attached to them.

It's always funny to watch them try really hard. Once I had a VP Exec sedan come screaming up behind me, then whip around and cut me off without indicating (well he was doing 30k's+ more than me so not really cutting me off in the usual sense). Keep in mind that he changed lanes directly in front of me even though both lanes were empty! Obviously he just wanted to piss me off, probably jealous that his own chunk of sh*t wasn't anywhere near as good as my car. So at the next red light I just changed into his old lane to get them lined up.

I let him launch first because I knew he needed it, and then I proceeded to serverely embarrass him all the way up to the speed limit (70kph) and then backed off. A few seconds later he managed to catch up and then accelerated up to like 140 or so (obviously he thinks this makes him the winner). In my opinion, this was the best way to make sure a moron didn't have to be near my car :D

I also seem to have problems with Camrys. They tend to be either clueless in their driving habits (cutting you off, not indicating, driving too slow in the right lane, etc) or think their car is more powerful than it is. Maybe they've been brainwashed by too many of the "big V6" commercials.

Fords seem to be more respectable than both the above for some reason. I don't know why this is because it's not like I'm a Ford fan or anything. In fact until I bought the Skyline I was more of a Holden man myself. I think one of the things that put me off Holdens was the increasing amount of tryhard bogans that own them. But I don't know what it is with Camrys.

From rumor I think that they are continuing with the Supercharged version as Ford now have the Turbo version.

The Eaton M90 is a very mild charger, they'll probably just tick the power levels just over the V6 standard as they dont want it to take over the V8 power levels.

Which is quite easy to do. LOL :-)

    • Yeah, all the crude is used for fuels and petrochem feedstocks (pesticides, many other chemicals, etc etc). But increasingly over the last few decades, much of the petrochem synthessis has started with methane because NG has been cheaper than oil, cleaner and easier and more consistent to work with, etc etc etc. So it's really had to say what the fraction either way is. Suffice to say - the direct fuels fraction is not insigificant. Heavy transport uses excruciatingly large amounts. Diesel is wasted in jet heaters in North American garages and workshops, thrown down drill holes in quarries, pissed all over the wall to provide electricity to certain outback communities, etc etc. Obviously road transport, and our pet project, recreational consumption camouflaged as road transport, is a smaller fraction of the total liquid HC consumption again. If you're talking aboust Aussie cars' contribution to the absolute total CO2 production of the country, then of course our share of the cubic mile of coal that is used for power generation, metallurgy, etc adds up to a big chunk. Then there is the consumption of timber. Did you know that the production of silicon metal, for example, is done in Australia by using hardwood? And f**king lots and lots and lots of hardwood at that. Until recently, it was f**king jarrah! There are many such sneaky contributors to CO2 production in industry and farming. NG is used in massive quantities in Australia, for power gen, for running huge water pumps (like, 1-2MW sized caterpillar V16 engines running flat out pumping water) for places like mine sites and minerals/metals refineries. And there are just a huge number of those sort of things going on quietly in the background. So NG use is a big fraction of total CO2 production here. I mean, shit, I personally design burners that are used in furnaces here in Oz that use multiple MW of gas all day every day. The largest such that I've done (not here in Oz) was rated to 150MW. One. Single. Gas burner. In a cement clinker kiln. There are thousands of such things out there in the world. There are double digits of them just here in Oz. (OK< just barely double digits now that a lot of them have shut - and they are all <100MW). But it's all the same to me. People in the car world (like this forum's users) would like to think that you only have to create an industrial capability to replace the fuel that they will be using in 10 years time, and imagine that everyone else will be driving EVs. And while the latter part of that is largely true, the liquid HC fuel industry as a whole is so much more massive than the bit used for cars, that there will be no commercial pressure to produce "renewable" "synthetic" fuels just for cars, when 100x that much would still be being burnt straight from the well. You have to replace it all, or you're not doing what is required. And then you get back to my massive numbers. People don't handle massive numbers at all well. Once you get past about 7 or 8 zeros, it becomes meaningless for most people.
    • @GTSBoy out of the cubic mile of crude oil we burn each year, I wonder how much of that is actually used for providing petrol and diesel.   From memory the figure for cars in Australia, is that they only add up to about 2 to 3% of our CO2 production. Which means something else here is burning a shit tonne of stuff to make CO2, and we're not really straight up burning oil everywhere, so our CO2 production is coming from elsewhere too.   Also we should totally just run thermal energy from deep in the ground. That way we can start to cool the inside of the planet and reverse global warming (PS, this last paragraph is a total piss take)
    • As somebody who works in the energy sector and lives in a subzero climate, i'm convinced EV's will never be the bulk of our transport.  EV battery and vehicle companies over here have been going bankrupt on a weekly basis the last year.
    • With all the rust on those R32s, how can it even support all the extra weight requirements. Probably end up handling as well as a 1990s Ford Falcon Taxi.
    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
