Part of the problem is that neither ford or holden are australian owned, and most of their styling and manufacture and engineering is dictated by their american parent companies (holden in particular) and americans being americans do not understand or accept that the rest of the world has different requirements to them, and that we dont like crappy engineering hand-me-downs.

Good on Ford Oz for sticking it up Ford USA when they wanted to shaft them for the last large car RWD platform Ford makes :)

.... real intelligent stuff.

What is it with them? So arrogant.... and for him to call my 'line a pisa is not on.

Ok for starters a couple of things - firstly i am an ex-holden driver so i can tell you not all people are like that. Thats got about as much backing as me saying all Ford drivers are redneck bogans.

As for this 'intelligent stuff'...and what do you call speeding around roads at speeds high enough to have your licence taken off you? Not to mention kill a person several times over. Or maim, or paralyze. I dont care if i sound like and ad, i just cant believe the pathetic lengths some people will go to prove 'how big their parts are'. Car or other. And the Holden driver is just as much to blame. Driving on public roads is not a god damn game, and you should be mature enough to know that every time you get behind the wheel of a car, you are a potential death machine. You are just living up to the sterotype that import or 'exotic' car drivers are all driven by try-hard wannabes who think the world begins and ends with their mods and rice factor. Not fair is it.

Im not going to say ive never sped, because i have, but nothing as insane as that. And no im not even trying to excusing it. Having had a friend hit by a tool in a car going ridiculously fast, i happen to be a tad touchy on the subject. Its not at all cool.

meh, dickheads drive whatever they can afford

Exactly. Holdens, Skylines...dickheads everywhere. Quite obviously.

Soulja, I agree totally. I'd love a vette or a viper. That's about it though. They can keep the rest. Especially the Camaros - I'd give them the ugliest car ever made award, but I had to reserve that for the Taurus we got.

Akeenan - I think they are Chevy Impalas. There's a fair few of them around. They were good in the old days when they were rear wheel drive and had 400+ ci engines. Not too special now.

Last night on the Cumberland Highway from a set of lights a yellow Monaro decided to go for it. The thing is, I was talking to my gf and my mate before the lights went green and I didn't even know there was a Monaro next to me until I saw him launch from the lights. I said "why didn't you tell me there was a Monaro next to me, I would have gone for it" :) They didn't notice it either :) I just took off normally and went up to the speed limit.

It sounded like the supercharged version and didn't take off too fast at all. Even with my 2 passengers I would have totally destroyed him if I had taken off properly. An old Toyota ute next to him also floored it on takeoff and didn't do too badly all things considered, but I'm 99% sure the Monaro was looking to race me rather than the ute because he then did the typical "change lanes in front of the car you just beat" thing.

my friend raced a blue ss commodore in his tt 300zx. chopped him up then blue and red lights started flashing.

it was an undercover cop.

..........

the cop started the 300zx by revving and shit like that.

the cop did not book him for street racing(lucky)

but got him for defects.

so before racing a commodore make sure it is not a cop....

lol

My previous car was a VS 5ltr Manual Commdore 3.5" exhaust extractors etc etc. blah balh..

When I first bought it and flattened it in first I was so god damn dissapointed and thought OMG what have I done.....

Well 9months later and 1 x $1200 Gearbox, 1 x $1100 LSD Diff and 1 x $1500-$1800 (Cant remember exactly) Rear crossmember (had IRS) I decided to sell it.

I've had prior good experiences with V8's. I think mostly as I don't sit up their arse or hassle them. My car isn't lowered and looks stock. HOWEVER I have had a run with a local 255LS1 Auto Clubby and a 255LS1 Manual Maloo Ute.

The Driver of the Maloo ute I see quite a bit when I used to drive to work. Eventually one day he pulled out of the bottom of flagstaff hill road on to South road behind me. Cut a long story short I powered on Second gear with wheel spin out of the corner in second as did he then third and I started to pull slowly but surley.. I though WTF.. :) With a big Grin Mind you.

Then we got the next set of lights.

Now I don't know if those things have traction control or not but OMG did it launch hard. I had trouble with 1st gear wheel spin but by the time I was ready to click third I was side by side then clicked third and I was creeping past.

He gave the Thumbs up etc nod of the head.. :)

Then there was a bloke in a AUTO SS the other day. Quite slow as you all know I didn't stall up then I heard him tromp it so i flattened first wheel spin with these new crappy Sava's I run (They Spin no traction) clicked second and second gear wheel spin but I was sitting side by side. He was obviously not wheel spinning then we hit 80kays and he slamms the brakes on sending me launching forward with wheel spin.He obviously thought he won that one which I suppose he did. Funny thing is he wouldn't pull up next to me at the next set of lights.

Generally my experiences are good.

That goes for tailgating too .... ooops. But they watched me do all kinda stupid things include tailgate them and they still let me off the 6 point fine with a warning - Lucky girl :)

They only think that a Big Block V8 Is the only way to go.

small block aren't they?!?!

anyway, a couple of things...

Holdens are deinitely not my cup of tea and the rate at which you hear about them turning lemon and leaking oil is a bit alarming (yes i know there's worse - no i don't care). What is larming though, is the fact that SOME dealers if not most of them (obviously trying it on) have been saying "the oil leak is within manufactureres tolerances".

Better not lock that one in, Eddie. Atrocious customer service and a shocking attitude all round.

Okay then.

Skylines, imports etc are absolutely my cup of tea. But there are dickhead drivers there too. I happen to be one on some occasions :)

As my solicitor said to me the day I met him. "Mate, you'll spend you whole life trying to figure out d1ckheads so it's best to just ignore them!!"

Adrian.

Oh and that 121/commo pic is the BEST!

Double Oh! Commodores suck :)

I've found most v8 commodore drivers ok. I've dragged a few and when I cleaned them up they wound down their window and had a short chat. Polite, just a fellow enthusiast.

I had commodores before and they were more problematic than this thing. In fact my 33 does not leak a single drop of oil - even with a fagged turbo and oil in my fmic!

T.

I think people are still sore from WWII and still to this day pay out on Jap products. It's just how we Australians are. If something is better than our locally built product....then it is SH*T.

I must admit. I used to think V8's were "The Only" performance car. HSV, FPV, etc etc.

WRX changed that, EVO changed that (allowed to be sold in AUS).

Only 2 years back did I come to realise what a "Skyline" was. I honestly thought that a "Skyline" was one of the Pintara car's with the more defined round lights, and a different badge. That was 2 years ago.

I think Holden and Ford do fine with their car's, they are sold for a purpose and a price. Sometimes the price factors A LOT in the manufacturing of car's and the type and quality of parts that are put on. I think the Japanese ECCONOMY and NEED to invest millions into research for their technology and manufacturing, has more to do with the quality of their Products. Japan relies heavily on exporting goods to make money, (as we all know)

i wonder if Australia was to start exporting Lots and lots of car's oversea's to other markets, whether we would see an increase in the quality of product.

IMHO i think so......

my 5c inc GST

Loz

quite right imho...

does anyone remember the ill-fated domestic capri? new ugly as shit models not classic 70's weapons!

local models were leaky, rusty lemons! export models were the ducks guts and had none of the problems of the australian delivered cars....

Holden's selling statesmans all over the world as Pontiacs. Middle east is slowly gonna become full of them/already is). Bet they're better than the aussie ones.
