Hey all,

Looking at making the trip over to France for the Le Mans 24 Hour race next June. Just wondering if anyone has made the trip before?? If so, just wanted to know what you thought of it, how you arranged your tickets/accomodation etc.

Thanks

Dane

Im going to be over there for the rugby World Cup so was lookign at it. Tour de France is on the list as well. Only lookign at Le Mans its quite expensive...so have to weigh up that combined with teh Rugby its going to be expensive...probably cheaper to go to a few European GPs.

Their website has plenty of info. A friend from work has done it in the 70s...he says its a must for racing fans

I went in 2004 and it is not expensive.I think it was Eur$110 for grandstand seating at the chichanne before the main straight. Accommodation can be the killer for the budget. I may be going myself next year if the budjet permits.

It is worth going no doubt about it. I managed to get past security and made my way over to malsanne straight. Prototypes doing 360km/h at 8am is a great way to start the day!

best of luck

Thanks for the info guys.

I saw ticket pricing for the this years event and it was similar to what you mentioned gtscruiser. I expect accomodation to be a real killer, but I guess there's not too many option in that regard. I'll book veru early with a travel agent and hopefully get a decent price.

I'm hanging to see the RS Spyder!

There is plenty of accommodation around. It's not a tiny little town in the outback. There are plenty of pubs in the area and smaller towns close by. Malsanne would be the place to stay as its at the end of malsanne straight, hence the name. There are a few tour operators who cater for this and many other events in EU.

The spyder would be a sight but the new LMP's are unbelievable.

If you like enduro racing I'm going to the Wakefield 500 with friends on saturday/sunday 25th November. If you want to hook up for a beer over some racing drop a line

cheers

I imagine there would be a lot of accomodation, but I also imagine they'd charge through the roof! But hey, if it was me I'd do the same. I'll look into these tours as well, thanks mate. I went to enquire about it through a travel agent on the weekend, but all the packages aren;t available for about a month, so I'll find out more then.

I'd love to see so many of the cars in the field... but I'm a BIG Porsche fan, so I'm hanging for the Spyder and RSR's

Thanks for the offer at Wakefield mate, but I'm in Victoria, so won't be making the trek up unfortunately...

Cheers

Dane

When are you flyign out? Im buying my tickets the first week of Feb. Are you going solo or with friends, maybe work well if we pool together to get good digs/accomodation?

For the Porsche fans... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M11GOVfA50

I'm flying out on the 13th I think, arrive the 14th into london, then take a bus on the 15th into Le Mans, and come back on the 18th. I'm going with a few mates, and this coach tour place organises all accomodation etc for us.

I'll find the website for you as apparently places are filling up... just need to decide which grandstand to sit in!

nice vid btw, I've just recently watched an in car 956 DVD, it's tops :)

    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
    • That's all good, I thought I was missing some interesting feature! Maybe @PranK can double check if that is something that is meant to be operating or not.
    • I hope that is not something that bad. From what i remember he said that only first gear is "hard" to get in and that he has couple of ideas what to try next but idk 😕  hope it is not gearbox out. I will let you know.
    • If it's not the hydraulics, it is probably gearbox back out. Usually as per @Duncan's post, or otherwise associated with not getting the throwout fork positioned correctly. All the way up to catastrophically bolting shit back together without it being aligned properly and wrecking the clutch/input shaft/flywheel/something else.
