Sketch the sort of cage you want, noting any diagonal bars and i will get you a price.

Big problem with the comprehensive cages with side intrusion etc is that they are expensive to fabricate and install as they require cutting of the dash, mods to door trim etc. Big job and associated cost

The side intrusions being bolt in is not a problem, and basically as far as welding goes I want it welded to the A-pillar ad tied to the B-pillar. I want it to be a weld in cage, but don't mind some of it being bolt in if you know what I mean?

Ok here is the email address of the gent that i brought my 7 point cage from

Sukhbir Singh [[email protected]]

And i have to say the cage was quality and was a perfect fit. Bit of a bugga to fit through the dash but i didnt really worry to much as it is a track car.

And whats ricer about a cusco cage for safety! not sure where that remark comes from.

I enquired about getting bolt in and weld in cages a while ago. The bolt in cages were around $300 more due to the extra work involved. For a weld in 6 point with rear cross brace it was around $2500 for the 32 gtr. I had a quote for around $2k by another place but later found out that thier cage had issues with welds when it came to getting it approved.

As for jap bolt in cages I spoke to the wrx day guy who can be nice or nasty. Can't remember his name but you know who I mean. He said he had no issues with me using a non-approved jap cage as long as it wasn't dodgy.

For the cost involved in a a full cage it isn't really much if you plan on keeping the car for a while vs being dead or paralized.

phunky monkey that is 99% the same design as the cage in my race car, my diagonal is between the B pillars instead of B and C. And of course all joints are welded no bolts.

Welded cage does not require any bolts, just needs windscreen and dash out so you can get the main hoop and front arms in to the car...then weld it in place.

For the 3 cages we have done so far, 1800 is the most we have paid, so shop aruond. Anyone can build a cage as long as they follow the CAMS requirements.

Thanks for that Tacker. I take it that is the Dubai distributor?

Gareth: Thanks for that mate. I think you're referring to Wayne? Good to know that he will accept it.

Duncan: For around $1800-2000 makes it seem a lot more reasonable to go the weld in CAMS approved route. I'm just very wary of who I would get to do my work as I've recently had a friend of mine pay big bucks to receive a very dodgy cage, and as a result is having to get it made again. But obviously with the pricing you've given it really will pay to shop around, so I'll see what I can find out. Thanks.

Dane

CAMS/FIA spec cage in my last car cost me $1500 with double diagonals, double intrusion bars, diagonal in the roof section, and braces in the door openings. main hoop is tagged to the B pillars, front legs are welded to the A pillars (you might be able to make out the reflection in the windscreen.

LOL, is that the 1200  Lifes hard decisions. To play with a Mk 1 Escort or a 1200 Coupe :)

Dane, when speaking to places it will pay to mention to them that you are not log booking your car (or are you) Inspection etc of the cage does add expense. So will the added complication of fitting the cage to a more modern car like a 180SX.

Good bet is to gut your interior and get them to install the cage, Then you can come along and paint it and install the interior with the extra attention to trimming dash that only the owner ever bothers with

I have just purchased a CAMS spec cage from Bond roll bars for my VH Commondore.

6 point CAMS spec steel tube

bolt in $880 (includes joiners etc)

weld in $800 (includes intrusion bars)

http://www.malvern-group.com.au/

Bond roll bars (NSW), Browne Davis Automotive (Vic), Malvern Motorsport (Vic), Fabraications (Vic) all can do excellent cages.

Well Malvern just completly stuffed a car that is well known to the Vic people eh Dane? :)

So personally im not very trusting of the workmanship.

If it means spending a couple extra bob to get a job right the first time...

$800 is just filthy cheap though

On that, just because one place says its hopeless doesnt make it so. The cagse probably does have problems...probably. But again, if the particular employee who did the cage has left then you wouldnt expect the next one to be as bad?!?!?!?

That said i wouldnt use anyone but Brown Davis myself

would u have a pic of the joiners? I emailed Bond and they never replied... do they still use those ones that look like theyre part of a fence post?

Bris: Yeah, I would like to get it log booked incase I decide to move the car over to race rego if I get defected, so I'd like to have it if possible.

I would strip it myself too, there's not that much to them, and I've been meaning to strip the rear properly, but wanted to wait until I can get it painted at the same time.

VHR32: $800?? That's ridiculously cheap! I'll give them a call and see if they have a template for an S13 already and see what they say. Thanks mate.

Ash: I'm not impressed by the way it's been handled either, so yeah, I won't be using said workshop. :)

    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much

    • 😜 hopefully we get this instead of a new R36 GTR due to recent financial problems at Nissan. Nismo to sell a complete kit with RB26 and driveline. All starts making sense (ok maybe not) once the Nissan Leaf's (Leaves?) with stuffed EV motors/batteries hit the market cheap
