wow that is high i work for a bank and the unsecured rate is even lower than that and secured is lower again

definately worth doing the ring around to find out what rates are available also look at what fees they charge as well and another thing people forget is find out if there is an early exit fee dont wanna get stung.

qikstagea didnt notice the car was sold pending finance good luck with the purchase

heath

brad/ cruises car is a beast definately worth the wait

yeah i found out that banks offer reasonable rates. ive got personal loan out, (wouldnt give me a car loan cause of age of car) and its 10.90%. car loan rates are usually under 10%. makes sure you can pay it out early if you need to with no fees. and check monthly costs.

cheers Glenn it certainly sounds worth it. If I knew what Brad wanted then I would make a decision from there. and if i can wait six months. will have to get my self a bunky for a daily driver for a while unless he wanted to sell sooner.

yeah i think brad is still doing some work to get it to a point where it will be ready to sell as i think he was installing a new block/engine and dont know if he is using it as a daily driver while he works on his new project car

haha speculation i love it :glare: the 6 months wait is because its still getting the motor built again after i cracked the block (this is the Jun engine) and i am wanting to race it at the drags and use it for a while before i sell it off, ill be keeping the Jun engine and putting in a rebuilt stock rb26 but this is definately 6 months away at least. once i reach my goal with the car it will be sold off but until then i plan on pushing it until it does go quick enough  i dont think putting a rollcage in a stagea is a smart move anyway

sorry Heath i sort of meant it as a joke as i wouldnt think someone would wait 6 months for it anyway :woot:

ill be letting people know well before time when its actually being sold >_<

i cant estimate a price until i decide what mods ill leave on and what ones ill take off (depending on what car the motor goes into next)

cheers

Brad

Well now comes the decision to buy a stagea now, and possibly want to sell it if Brads one (stock engine) does come on the market in the future. Or wait..........Damn. lol

RB26DETT

Manual

Ticks off the two main boxes on my list.

Edited by SLO-N-STEDY

If you want a rb26 go for the 260rs, then it has all the supporting bits and manual, OR buy mine, I have manual, and it could be yours for the low, low price of $28,143.66 + freight :D buy now and this set of steak knife could be yours! :)

EDIT: This is what that gets you too:

Geeze you could prolly get a half decent 260rs for that! Go for the 260rs if you really want the rb26 but, it is not just a bigger motor and a gearbox, it is nearly a tottally different vehicle, just looks the same :D

Three posts in a row, SKA.... Making sure your presence is felt in the newbies, are we? Think ive been on about a year now... and just about on my second stagea. Far out. It gets outta hand sometimes, heath. Youll understand.

Seriously though, for that kinda money, get a 260. No two ways about it.

he really want to sell his car lol. damn cars. one addiction thats hard to kick. lol

im little confused, what kinda money???

Around the $25k-$30k mark is where it becomes smarter to buy a 260RS than a RS4

the only 260RS ive seen for sale was like 35k. im not going that high. if i could get one in the price bracket I would probly strongly considering.

mmmmm

i am pretty sure that one of the guys on here landed one for about 26 grand

have also seem some on the stock list on j-specs website before

but in all honesty its like buying a cheap gtr its probably cheaper for a reason and not a good one most times.

series 2 manual would be a good buy now can be had for less than 20 grand easy and then you still have some $$$ for mods and so forth

hmm i have to agree there. maybe ill chuck a low offer on that black one and see what they say. they've had the car for a bit now, prices have been extortionate. that way loan payments will be less, and mods can come quicker. will see. im thinking i may just say, if they can do it for $18k then ill take it. if not, bargaining will begin.

Depends on which way you look at it i guess. Buy an autech for 26, then allow 4k to fix anything that may be a drama. Or buy an s2 for 20, then spend 10 on it to get it where you want it to be. Im sorry, haha what was your budget again...? Have a look in there "where does it end" thread and theres a pretty decent list of everyones work in progress. My money pit is just about due for a new shovel, she's gettin pretty blunteded.

i gotta warn u a cheap autech 260 is gonna cost more than buying a decent one. if the motor goes allow around 5k to rebuild it dead stock or around 10k if u want some decent internals and oil pump, etc. dont forget they could have a dead clutch, worn transfer case, and other major issues people never think about. if they are in bad condition on the exterior than u can imagine how they have maintained them with oil changes and the like.

go have a search on forced induction section and check out how many rb26s need rebuilds, its rather a big percentage and anything around 100 000km and they are on the way to a rebuild as they are revy engines and owners dont buy a 260rs to cruise around when they can get a rs four for alot less.

i personally wouldnt touch a rb26 without a rebuild unless u got the extra cash to do it straight up. dont expect to pump 20psi and 450awhp through a tired one for long either. they wear out bearings with the rpm and piston ring lands crack off in 9 out of 10 cases.

the 260rs is alot different to a rs four as mentioned, its got the rb26, gtr 5 speed, front mount intercooler, gtr lsd diff (rear) and thicker gtr axles and uni joints, gtr swaybars, gtr r33 brembo brakes and gtr tire clearances under the guards. dont buy a rs four and think chucking a 26 in is only 10k because it will be more of a headache and as expensive as buying a 260 straight away.

these are just my personal opinions but ive done the conversion myself and swapped everything on mine for gtr parts so ive pretty much bought a full gtr in peices and installed everything onto the stagea. i didnt have the option of going 260 when i bought mine 2 years ago as there wasnt any in Oz available.

i would definately get a manual but u wont find a manual series 1 unless its been converted and mod the rb25 it will make some serious power and they have less likely to have been flogged by the previous owners.

heres some mods that will make some good numbers and not cost the earth

garrett gt3040r turbo $2200 (cheaper second hand)

exhuast manifold $300

wastegate $500

intercooler and piping $500

power fc $980

bosch 040 fuel pump $220

clutch $600???

injectors $600???

i reckon 370-400awhp is pretty easy obtainable with those mods and reliable for a stock engine. i had trouble with a rear axle snapping as they are tiny but maybe i just had bad luck and they should be fine.

i wouldnt stuff around with highflow turbo and shit for 270awhp or whatever they make as u are gonna want more and they are maxed out. the gt3040 will make upto 500hp (on a built engine) from what ive seen on other cars and they are fairly small so lag will be minimal :) so its always got room to go for more power if u rebuild it ever. i personally hate doing mods that max out straight away as u all know after a month u always crave more power :)

thats just MY 2c worth

cheers

Brad

    • Yuck. But it's kinda the same principle, moving timing around to make car run bad but sound good.... I went for a more spirited tuning drive to iron out a few things. Car no longer stalls, and it loved to dip RPM low when you clutch in. After tuning this (and the 4-5 tables that HPTuners/LS1 OEM ECU wants for idle air correction) it's now behaving somewhat normal. All expected because there's a new TB, new Intake manifold and that new TB which is 102mm vs 78... has an entirely different IAC passage which is smaller because ????? Unfortunately at this point I went to make further fine tuning changes to avoid it flaring up, you know... _tuning_ the HPTuners dongle died. Well to be more accurate - The USB cable died in a fashion that anyone who has ever charged a phone will recognize. After the app demanding I resync it 50 or so times (which all 'succeeded' but all failed) the device does not want to sync and I've logged a ticket with support to see if it's fixable. US Support said it was a 'storage issue' but after removing the SD card inside it and formatting it/fixing it the issue does persist. Unfortunately usually the fix is "Turn in your old dongle and pay $700 for the upgraded one" it's cheaper because I get some free licence credits I unfortunately don't need. However I'm 10 minutes down the road from HP Tuners AUS/VCM so at least I won't need to post it, and logged a new ticket for support over here. Definitely drives different. My SOTP dyno believes it's probably making 310-320kw instead of the 280 before.  It scrambles for traction a little now whereas it previously different. It drives like a bigger cam car up top even though the cam is smaller, likely due to the cam not being advanced 6 degrees. The timing is deliberately low and the fuel is very rich so who knows if this will improve on the dyno. It may, imperceptably. Also funny is removing the pineapples definitely makes the car squat more and axle tramp less. So this behavior of having more top end, squatting more, and scrabbling for traction more makes me think = more power. But I could have just been sitting on the threshold of that kind of behavior before. Time will tell if my butt dyno is calibrated right. I need the exhaust leaks fixed before dyno tune for obvious AFR related reasons - I repositioned the pipes but I'm not confident it's fully sealed even if it is better. At least the car does drive around while I cannot tweak/tune it for now. And I have aircon again. medium success!
    • Don't use that manifold. Please don't use that manifold. Sunk cost fallacy is not worth the later pain. None of these will be relevant to the change that will come from the different turbo and manifold. As in, the effect of the exhaust will be nil, regardless of what else is changed. And all the cam and fuel system stuff is not changing either way, so has no effect. The turbo and manifold (and to a small extent the wastegate)....big change.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for your input   my man (lead mechanic by trade) and I have done a heap of work as you can imagine just to make the hot side work with the dump pipe, stupid massive intake on turbo, trying to get the waste gate on was not fun.  I’m kinda getting to the point where I don’t know if I try and make this work and not throw all this cash and time away or do I scrap the lot and start again? the Apexi I’ve got was tuned for a few slight differences:   Tomei pon cams (mine are stock neo) Turbo smart 38mm external waste gate (mines 45mm replumbed) with stainless screamer pipe  3inch turbo back exhaust with high flow cat Sard 800cc top feed injectors Sard adjustable fuel pressure reg
    • Out here E90s are the cheapest way into a sporty-ish car because everyone knows just how expensive the repairs can get. 8-10k USD for an automatic 335i.
