my r33 gtst has recently been letting off a really bad fuel smell within the car. after ive been in the car for 15 mins or so i start to get a pretty strong smell of fuel.

i have checked under the car and theres no leaks to be seen so i have nfi what could be causing it? is this a serious problem?

on a side note, does anyone know where u can buy replacement break lights for the r33 S2 spoiler? the break light was loose on my spoiler and its fallen off :\

I have a similar fuel smell only becomes bad with the sunroof open and windows down? I get good fuel economy and Ive had two mechanics check it out but didn't find anything. If you find the problem post it up, prolly a common issue.

I started to get a bad fuel smell, but I had really poor fuel economy - was running rich, hopefully it goes away with the next tune.

Is your filter :( plastic or metal construction.

Sometimes this can be a faulty unit.

I have had 2 fuel filter go on me to date...both nissans.

But yeah...you just picked up your car so, get it checked out....You can normally feel with your hand around the hoses to see if there is a leak. You can also smell were it is coming from normally.

Good luck and hope I have been of some help.

Yeah, i get fuel smell around my filler and in my engine bay. Not noticable in the cabin though....might have to inspect this fuel filter. Where can i locate this in the RB20DET engine bay?

*had my car for ~4 months (purchased complied and serviced)

Cheers,

Steve.

had a similar issue with mine not long ago, mech changed the fuel pump, and the rubber on the inlet hose had a pin hole leak..and was spittin out fuel..

u might wanna pop inside ur boot, open that lid to the right of the battery, get someone to start the car up and jus have a quick look if there fuel spittin out of anywhere there.

hope that helps

cheers

as mentioned, it's often fuel cap, also those temporary ones you get from servo's. You end up having the fuel in the tank splash against the cap when going around corners + fumes = bad smell!

Also if you have changed your fuel pump recently and broke the rubber seal around the pump housing .

try going to supercheap and buying about 3metres of fuel hose and about 6 new small hose clamps

then when the car is cold, look under the hood and find the fuel lines in the bonnet. there should be 3 rubber hoses:

1 - from teh bottom on the engine on drivers side to the fuel filter

2 - from the fuel filter to the fuel rail

3 - coming back from the fuel pressure regulator to the bottom of the engine bay again

i replaced all hoses and clamps, and my fuel smell went away

if you are going to do this, i suggest also replacing the fuel filter while you are at it and i even relocated the fuel filter to be within easier reach.

when doing this, remember to remove the fuel pump fuse and crank the car for a few seconds first to get all the fuel out of the lines...

it can't hurt to do it even if there's no problem, as hoses get brittle after 15 or so years of being exposed to 100deg temps!

cheers,

Warren
