Yes the original file was created from scratch in vector format, it was NOT converted from a raster format like jpeg or bitmap. Once the file was created, it was saved in various formats - EPS and AI (vector) and JPG, BMP and PDF. These file formats have all been provided, and PPQ were able to (eventually) give us a reasonably good pic for the plates, with only the colour needing adjusting. How they managed to stuff up a straight red is beyond me, but I thought that was the only problem with it?

Sighing... now look, I can tell you a PDF file created out of Illustrator contains exactly the postscript data as an Illustrator EPS. The word 'vector' is only an industry term used when referring to infinite quality and not file formats in any regard.

The term PDF stands for 'portable document format' and was created for compressing files and for use in cross platform applications, meaning it can be used in both Mac and PC enviroments whereas the EPS file format isn't native to PC.

The only way the color can shift or differ when creating a pdf from the eps is when color profiles are excluded or the entire Adobe package be it v8,9,10, CS or C2II color settings are not cross calibrated.

Either way just because a file may or may not contain correct color information it doesn't mean the color cannot be corrected at the printers end...it bloody can and this guy is yanking your crank!

The final word..find another printer if you can because this PPQ guy will run himself out of business because he has NFI!!

LOL...can't really do that considering we are discussing graphics for number plates and PPQ (Personalised Plates Qld) are the body that actually make the number plates...bit hard for them to run themselves out of business

I am well aware of what a PDF/EPS file is, and that postscript, being a standardised PDL, is going to be consistent regardless of what kind of file it's embedded (or encapsulated, hence EPS) in. I'm also aware that in image terms, vector refers to an image storage method that uses point data (vectors) to store an image, rather than what coloured dot goes in what place. My point was that we sent a large number of formats, not how these formats compare to eachother. Some places demand files in specific formats, hence why we have the files saved in several already.

I do understand what you're saying wrt colour matching too, the image was not created with a colour profile attached, but it was sent to them with a note of what we wanted and Mud got a proof back which looked the goods. It was approved and the plate did not match the proofs. Proof <> product = their fault, unfortunately they have a monopoly and we can't go anywhere else Given that they haven't been very helpful so far it might be a while before we get what we've asked/paid for...

They are all a bunch of slack-jawed faggots if you ask me!! How hard is it when we supply the art in every format we had, including the hi-res stuff, and they still manage to FUBAR the whole process. Mud and I are the only ones affected so far, but it is hurting club members who have wanted to proceed with the purchase only to be told to wait and see if we can fix the problem first.

Attached below is a screen shot of the original as supplied to you (screen shot taken in Adobe Illustrator).

Nevermind about the colours...PPQ can chop and change these to suit themselves, which they did...

Don't forget you used a logo for the first sample and it had a shadow, which I might add you even said looked like crap...so this logo as above was created, with no shadow.

They have both been most helpful in the production of many many files for these plates, just seems I cant get one to work with PPQ.

My previous post was typed quickly and upon re-reading looked quite nasty. Gone now.
